Joe, you are correct that appraisers are supposed to use three approaches to value and then reconcile the results by placing more or less weight on these approaches. (I was an MAI for many years). The big questions are the purpose of the appraisal and how to define market value.
The Appraisal Foundation has more info on this if you are interested. But this is an old topic, so I'll leave it at that.
Does this mean I can get a cup without grounds in it! Yippee!
Hard to use a stop when you don't even remember being in the trade! LOL. I'm just about even on the TLT mistake. I think I might even be able to make a little on it so I stayed in. DECK's coming in but I'm still underwater on it. As you noted, it is pretty dangerous. Did ok on the ISRG short.
Site's been down for several hours.
I agree, gigem, that is why I am trying to get out of a position that is the opposite of what I was thinking.
I was thinking one reason to keep TLT is since TBT is a crowded trade right now. The 30-yr auction has me shaking a bit, but maybe at this juncture, I already have my losses. Although I think opie was expecting closer to 4.1 on the 10-year and we're not there yet. Maybe the Fed will buy some more bonds to help us out.
Thanks again, Jim.
Jim, if you don't mind me asking, what is your plan with the TLT? I found some in my account last night and I'm not sure what to do with it, so I'm trying to form a plan it this crazy market. Thanks.
Here is my attempt to trade gone wrong. Apparently one night a couple of weeks ago I put in an order for TLT, and it executed the next day. I just found it last night. Oops. I'm thinking if I was to try and trade anything it would be TBT, but something in my brain happened and I can't figure it out. Of course that trade couldn't have come at a worse time in the long bond market.
I've been holding since the death drop. Slightly underwater, but it feels like forever.
SQNM is on the move. I have no idea why. I'm posting here because I think someone here was following. I'm a stuckholder.
That is a good one! Thanks.
I would probably keep mine too, Newly, but it sounds creepy. You can display them in a shadowbox now that you are out of the van.
I bet you are proud of all the money you saved not getting haircuts! LOL.
Why can't you post here?
Funny that you should post about CELG. I was just wondering what to do with my position. It has been good to me although I did go slightly underwater at one point early on. I guess the biggest reason for me to let it go now is that biotech is not in favor and I don't see much in the way of news for it now that the conference news has been baked in.
I'm not a big fan of O'Brien, but that was a funny piece. I wonder if he meant to be that funny.
He changed it to a premium board so that he would have control to delete posts if someone hijacked the thread.
It is good to see you back at the old Zeev thread.
I wish I had your staying power, gt. I got out at 3.72 - way too early in retrospect, but hey, I still made money. Thank you for letting me know your exit.
Good going, Newly. Wins are a fun start.
<<-- in January I had my first haircut in 30 years!>>
Was it taking up too much room in your van? :)
Oops, It seems you are still confused - check the thread header for the correct version.
A wedding! That is so much more fun than stocks!!!! Enjoy and as they say from my neck of the woods, Mazel tov! Best of luck to the happy couple.
<<I was astounded by the number of people with above median income and no evidence of savings (like interest, dividends, or capital gain/loss). >>
Maybe they bought gold coins or stuffed their mattresses.
I remember Zeev complaining that he would be early on the major turns in the market. But the way he scaled into positions in some and took losses in others, he managed well. I think this situation would be no different.
That would have been serious coin! But as you reminded me on many occassions, there will be other plays.... Besides you didn't suffer the pain until it got there. LOL
Sounds great, kate! Good luck on that RIMM.
Even with an upgrade SNDK is on the floor panting.
RIMM is a bigger star today.
Hey AD, I'm watching DECK for a short. Maybe at the end of the day? Or Tomorrow?
Y2, If you are long the options, the reduction in volitility is working against you, not to mention the time decay that you no doubt already know. $vix has been dropping, lowering option prices.
<<Bottom line...Aj runs a great board, unfortunately its on IHUB.
It would be a shame to lose what we have on this board.>>
I agree
What started the move process was the poor performance on Silicon Investor's search engine. The payment to Zeev's charity was probably the icing.
It sounds like SBUX is selling some sandwiches. Now that you have me thinking about it, I am not a fan of PNRA bread either. Beats subway though. If the stock keeps moving up, maybe a short term short on PNRA is in my future. Thanks.
MM, you have hated PNRA for a long time! I remember being long the stock many years ago and you noted a couple of weaknesses. I have made money on both sides of it, although I have been away from it for awhile. It is fun to see you again. And I agree, their sandwiches are crummy. Soups are ok though.
AJ, Any thoughts on RIMM? Think it will go fill that Sept gap soon?
All out rush to buy MOS, AGU and POT
GT, thanks for your read on DXO and oil. I don't see see crude getting as high as 70-90 this summer, but my thoughts are not based on charts, just on fundamental over-supply and weak economy. Since I'm still in, I like the company.
Thanks, GT, I take it from the tone of your note that you continue to hold DXO, even now while you are not as active in the market on a daily basis. I still have mine. I'm not motivated to sell at this point but I'm thinking about it.
Anyone know if it is a bad/good idea to hold DXO for a longer-term swing trade?
I bought some FAZ but then chickened out and took the loss.
:(
Hey, speaking of green shoots, did you catch Liz Ann Sonders piece that the recession might be over? (She says it is a small probability but sees upside.... something about sunshine
