CONCORD, N.H. -- Online registrations are being accepted for next month's WMUR Project Economy Job Fair & Career Expo.
Gov. John Lynch announced Friday that participants can register online for the Aug. 27 job fair at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. The job fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"This event will provide job seekers with great opportunities to pursue new career paths and meet with some of New Hampshire's finest employers," Lynch said. "I urge anyone seeking employment to sign up online and attend what's sure to be a tremendous job fair for job seekers and businesses alike."
So far, 105 area employers have signed up to take part in the event. The first WMUR Project Economy Job Fair & Career Expo held April 9 at Southern New Hampshire University drew more than 10,000 job seekers. The massive turnout created parking, traffic and building occupancy problems. Given the size of the speedway and additional parking space at the facility, organizers don't expect the same logistical issues.
"The speedway is used to accommodating over 100,000 guests during the two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, so we don't anticipate any problems with space," said WMUR General Manager Jeff Bartlett. "And even given the logistical challenges at the first event, the fact still remains that with only a fraction of the businesses reporting in, we were still able to help over 450 New Hampshire citizens find new jobs."
Once again, WMUR has assembled a team of state and local partners that will bring together employers and job seekers for a day of networking, workshops and career connections. Southern New Hampshire University and its state colleagues will join to present resume writing, interviewing and job readiness workshops as part of the day's offerings.
"New Hampshire Motor Speedway is thrilled to be able to do its part to assist local citizens in their efforts to find good jobs and provide for their families," said NHMS General Manager Jerry Gappens. "Being a community partner is a large part of our mission, and we're very pleased to be part of the great team organizing what's sure to be a tremendous event."

Now that the Casino bill is dead, what's next, the country's largest mini golf course in downtown Berlin? State's largest dunk tank? Hit the clown in the face with a shovel and win a prize?
.......boiler can't boil? square wheels? makes my oatmeal mushy?
my guess is that when the casino bill was killed, yesterday morning same time the volume came in, in the nh legislature, those "in the know" view the one bright spot remaining for the future of employment in the north country

NH Budget Negotiators Reject Expanded Gambling
Senate, House At Odds
POSTED: 10:18 pm EDT June 17, 2009
UPDATED: 9:06 am EDT June 18, 2009
CONCORD, N.H. -- New Hampshire legislators working to come up with a state budget have rejected using expanded gambling to raise money to pay for state services.
Senate members of a House-Senate budget committee argued passionately Wednesday evening for at least five video gaming parlors that they said would bring the state millions of dollars and new jobs.
But House members on the committee would not agree to include the slots, questioning the actual dollar projections and whether slots would be a reliable way to pay for state services.
The governor and lawmakers are working to close a $650 million revenue gap.
WMUR's Adam Sexton spoke to the committee who says "no" to gaming. However, the measure is not dead yet.
It was a defeat though as the Senate wants it and the House does not.
