I think Windows 7 is Vista with all the bugs worked out.
I don't know what it would do to the pitStop scores (probably lower), but I'd wager an SSD would make the machine faster ...
rr
I believe the same machine is on offer at dell.com.
Without the free financing
As for the mobo, I'm interested too. It says it'll take 12Gig, is sold with 4. You might get higher pitStop scores if you add another stick for triChannel DDR3.
Mobo's a mystery ...
Great news. Congrats.
rr
Since I know you appreciate the news ...

I was actually hoping to get the lower rate, have him send me a bill, and pay him with the inflated dollars.
It's the American Way, after all.
rr
O/T?
OK, I get it.
How much is your monthly subscription?
Sounds like solid advice to me.

"Maybe someday the "Bad Bank" will be offering home loans <G>"
I think they already have.

I can only hope.
Refinanced into a 3/1 ARM 2.8 years ago. Terms are reset to 1 year libor + 2.25%. Latest daily is 1.91125%.
4.16% ... for 15 years would be nice.
Too bad I'm in NY state
That's OK with me. Short at the close yesterday, long at SPX 852 this morning.
Under here is clear blue water ... yikes.

The stick. Pull back on the stick ...

H,
No objection.
The stuff works for me, and my machines all seem 'quick'. Might just be the coffee, but hey. YMMV.
GLWYT,
rr
If $30 for 3 machines is over priced to you, OK.
The CPU load on my machines from current Norton stuff is in the way low single digits. Even on the Semperon laptop, let alone the Core 2 whatever.
Sorry your experiences have been worse.
rr
I've put Norton Internet Security 2009 on 6 machines in my house, and I'm really happy with it.

Maximum PC has the "how to" install 7 from a USB key. I will testify that if you do NOT follow the instructions carefully it doesn't work, but if you do, it does.
Installed it on an old many times repaired hPaq laptop, a V6000 CTO, slow Semperon, 2GB, 40GB, nVidia 6150 graphics, 4GB ReadyBoost stick. Clean install, fresh format.
The thing rocks. Dude. Firefox, Norton 2009, WMP, WHS connection, Java, all the eye candy works. CPU use is amazingly low, responsiveness excellent.
I'm impressed.
rr
I've tried.
1) BSOD on an old P4 w/ tI 4400 video card ("driver in infinite loop") at first boot after install. Reverts back to Vista Ultimate.
2) Laptop attempt will not recognize the DVD I burned as a proper install disk - same one the P4 took just fine. I'll take another shot at it with a bootable USB drive.
Lots of anecdotes available on the www

Bruce,
You might want to capture a screen shot of the button to press on the web page to get the download.
There seems to be too many alternative clicks.

I've seen lots of case mods in MaxPC, including ones in cardboard boxes, but never those two. Thanks.
I'm actually interested in the Z90 case form factor - lower and longer - as well as a big fan (get it of Lian Li cases. My V1100 (or whatever) is built like a black luxury tank, but it's big.
Have a great weekend,

Actually, on topic.
Your wife is correct. Many people think logically, and many people 'feel' fear, and allow that to pass for what's called here 'thinking'.
Very different way to approach the world. Makes markets.
Go Steelers. Defense wins titles. Logical, isn't it?

As for the system itself, you could build it yourself for a bit less ...
But the case ...

What I've heard from you: The hard drive came out of the old machine, and went into the new machine, without re-installing the OS, and the required drivers for the new Mobo.
If that's true, I'd suspect that as a possible cause of the problem.
rr
Ram's one thing, harddrive's another.
New operating system install or not? Same motherboard or not?
rr
Hey, sorry about the shipping damage.
Good luck with the claim for the new machine. What happens to the old parts?
Was that too subtle? I'm asking for other people ...

Sir, from you that is a serious complement. Thanks.

I watch the 60 minute $SPX RSI(5) and (2), and both of those are deep in 'going down' territory. Which is where they spent most of the January. All the RSI(5) buy signals have turned out bad.
I wouldn't go long here. My guru's looking for under -100 on McO.

I installed Vista Ultimate on an old PC - 3GHz Pentia 4, 845 chip set, tI 4400 video card. Worked OK, but it gave the video card a 1.0 score. No surprise.
Clean installed Windows 7 on same box, and it blue screens. "Video driver in an infinite loop".
Next try is re-install Vista, install sp1, and then upgrade to 7.
rr
This might help ... from one of my serious technical friends
I found a Microsoft blog post with some additional information about the Windows 7 beta. Perhaps the most interesting is that the only way to install the beta is to upgrade a Vista SP1 installation. So if all you have is an empty partition, you'll have to install Vista SP1, then install Windows 7. You probably won't need to activate Vista, though. The beta is in the form of a DVD ISO image, so you'll need a DVD writer and software that can write a DVD from an ISO image. (ImgBurn, which is free, should work.) Also, the beta will expire on August 1, 2009.
I've talked to a couple of people today who have tried to download the beta from the MSDN site, but they have not been successful. Apparently the site is overloaded from people trying to download the beta. So you may have to wait a few days, or try downloading it overnight. If you don't have an MSDN subscription, don't wait too long. MS is going to limit the number of public beta downloads to the first 2.5 million people. The public beta opens tomorrow (Friday) at 3 PM EST. It will be available at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows7
Here's the post, with more details:
http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/07/information-on-downloading-and-installing-windows-7-beta.aspx
NM knows something he's not telling. He said as much. And the tri star pattern he referenced is quite rare.
Sumthin's up. I wonder what?
Those of us who follow $SPX 60 minute RSI(5)saw a buy signal this morning when the value went below 20 and came back up thru 30. One of my guru had me go long at about the same time.

Microsoft has made the Windows 7 beta available to MSDN subscribers. (Windows 7 is the next version of Windows.)
Steve Ballmer announced at CES yesterday that it will be available for the public to download tomorrow. The pundits are speculating that because it's called "Beta" rather than "Beta 1", it will be the only beta that will be made available. They are also predicting that Windows 7 will be released by late summer, in time for it to be widely available on PCs for the Christmas buying season.
Reviews of the early Windows 7 releases have been quite favorable, so it seems likely that it will (have a shot to) stimulate PC sales once it has been released.
Your kids seem like well adjusted properly raised kids.
So, get them CrackBerry's now, and start them off right.
I canceled my land line service a few months ago. Saved a fortune on bills and charity please my wife bought ...
Might I ask, where is that?

Although, I must recommend 'Benji Buttons'. Awesome flick. That Pitt guy's got a future in the business.
Also, 'The Spirit' for comic book goodness and HOT women. Wowza.
Short position open going into tomorrow morning. Wish me luck, and if possible, send cash. No more ponies.

MFB,
Once upon a time, banks had to borrow money to lend it, and the 10-year was a good proxy for their borrowing costs. Now, banks depend on third parties to buy mortgages from them, and the price of MBS (mortgage backed securities) is hopelessly intertwingled in with what mortgage rates are.
Investors, having been less mercifully farked by sellers of MBS' than some of the snuff porn I've accidentally seen and read, are somewhat reluctant to buy more of this crap than before. Call it a risk premium.
I'm hoping that The One causes the powers that be to fark with the price of MBS' somehow, so that I can get a good deal on a refi on my 3/1 LIBOR based ARM coming up this June. I'd like a 4% apr 20 year deal ... aj tells me that won't happen, and since he's always right, I don't believe him.
Back to the whiskey ...
