Bombshell New Audit Exposes Baltimore City's Mismanagement Of Federal, State Grants
This might not surprise you at the very least, but a new financial audit of how Baltimore City manages millions of dollar in federal and state grants has found top senior officials cannot account for how those dollars were spent.
The Baltimore Sun reports city auditors have unearthed some very troubling mismanagement concerns when it comes to Baltimore’s finances: “Grant money coming into government coffers is not balancing out with what city agencies are spending.”
( I guess the liberal solution will be to ask for more money... )

Chinese Space Station Will Crash To Earth Soon, Uncertain Where It Will Hit
Although most of the Tiangong-1, the Chinese space station erratically flying through space toward the Earth, will burn up in the atmosphere, there’s a chance part of it will survive and make an impact.
But scientists still don’t know who could be near the impact zone.
China’s prototype space station, Tiangong-1 or “heavenly place”, could re-enter the atmosphere as soon as this week.
Scientists say that most of the eight-tonne spacecraft is expected to burn up as it plummets through the atmosphere, there is a chance some of it will survive all the way down to the surface.
While most of it will burn up during re-entry, around 10 to 40 percent of the satellite is expected to survive as debris, and some parts may contain dangerous hydrazine. However, due to changing conditions in space, it is not possible to accurately predict where the module will land. “It is only in the final week or so that we are going to be able to start speaking about it with more confidence,” said Dr. McDowell. “I would guess that a few pieces will survive re-entry. But we will only know where they are going to land after after the fact. –SHTFPlan, March 8, 2018
According to the Guardian, there’s no cause for alarm. In terms of size, Tiangong-1 is only the 50th largest spacecraft to come down, and there have been no recorded deaths or injuries from people being struck by debris from any of them. The largest uncontrolled entry was SkyLab, the 77-tonne United States space station, which disintegrated over Western Australia. It didn’t injure anyone but large parts of it were later collected.
The other concern is the highly toxic waste on board the space station. A toxic chemical known as hydrazine is being carried by Tiangong-1. Hydrazine is an inorganic chemical compound. It is a colorless volatile alkaline liquid with powerful reducing properties, used in chemical synthesis and in some kinds of rocket fuels. Hydrazine is highly toxic and dangerously unstable unless handled in solution.
The changes of the spacecraft hitting anywhere populated are slim to none, but the toxic chemical hydrazine could still be damaging regardless of the place of impact.

Spotify SPOT Disrupts the IPO But Keeps the Costs
The music streaming company isn't getting a bargain.
Spotify Technology SA disclosed on Monday that it expects costs of 35 million to 40 million euros ($44 million to $50 million) related to its coming debut as a publicly listed company. Instead of the typical initial public offering conducted and controlled by high-priced investment bankers, Spotify plans to make its existing privately held shares available to buy and sell freely on the stock market next week.
This relatively novel not-IPO has received a great deal of attention for supposedly ditching the usual trappings of a new share offering and cutting out those pricey investment banks. But Spotify's stock listing is costing a pretty penny considering the company is gaining little financially from its stock market debut.
Consider that Spotify's expected not-IPO costs might be two-thirds of what Snapchat's parent company doled out for its conventional IPO last year. Snap Inc. has said banker discounts on stock transactions and commissions paid to its IPO underwriters amounted to $68.1 million, plus it incurred other costs of $14.7 million. Those expenses amounted to about 3 percent of the $2.6 billion Snapchat took in from the IPO, excluding the shares sold by investors and executives.
Conventional Costs
Spotify isn't holding an initial public offering, but it's spending more on its stock debut than some other companies did in recent IPOs
It's not clear how many Spotify shares will change hands when trading starts on April 3. If $1 billion of shares begin to trade, on a percentage basis Spotify's costs will amount to 4 percent to 5 percent of total stock sold. Compare that with underwriting fees in high-profile IPOs, which tend to be 4 percent or less of the money raised in the transaction. Under those circumstances, Spotify won't be getting a bargain compared with the costs of a conventional IPO.
And in contrast to a typical IPO, Spotify is getting zero dollars from its stock listing. That means whatever the company's costs for its stock market listing, it isn't functional spending. Yes, the company will benefit from stock transactions that establish a true market value for its shares, plus employees and existing investors have a chance to cash out. But by design, Spotify itself isn't selling shares in its stock market debut. That makes Spotify's costs look large compared with the value it is getting.
Spotify is reaping intangible benefits from its not-IPO, although those are debatable. First, Spotify receives a dose of publicity from the lead-up to trading, while at the same time executives have said they're avoiding an IPO because they don't want the attention. "For us, going public has never really been about the pomp or the circumstance of it all," Spotify CEO Daniel Ek said during a pitch to potential investors earlier this month. Then his company went through the rest of its three-hour marketing spiel followed by a musical concert, all of which was written about by major news organizations (including this one).

Growing questions about CNN's airport monopoly as network veers left
CNN's ubiquitous presence in airports -- where it broadcasts from thousands of screens to a captive audience of millions -- is facing new scrutiny after the cable network's hard left turn.
The CNN Airport network dates back to when CNN was known for straightforward news programming -- and has been a fixture at airports since before competitors MSNBC and Fox News even existed. But critics are now asking if busy travelers should be subjected to CNN’s increasingly ideological programming -- at gates, bars, food courts and baggage claims -- which can include on-screen chyrons or subtitles that gleefully mock President Trump. Many travelers have even taken to Twitter and started online petitions to urge airports to change the channel.
"Airports feel like a lesser version of hell with dirty seats, overpriced food and propaganda posing as news on CNN," Fox News host Tucker Carlson said last month.

Friday Humor: Entire Facebook Staff Laughs As Man Tightens Privacy Settings
( I've made plenty of mistakes in my life but one I didn't make was opening a Facebook account. )
All 1,472 employees of Facebook, Inc. reportedly burst out in uncontrollable laughter Wednesday following Albuquerque resident Jason Herrick's attempts to protect his personal information from exploitation on the social-networking site.
"Look, he's clicking 'Friends Only' for his e-mail address. Like that's going to make a difference!" howled infrastructure manager Evan Hollingsworth, tears streaming down his face, to several of his doubled-over coworkers.
"Oh, sure, by all means, Jason, 'delete' that photo. Man, this is so rich."
According to internal sources, the entire staff of Facebook was left gasping for air minutes later when the "hilarious" Herrick believed he had actually blocked third-party ads.

The liberals are hilarious...
After Trump finished his announcement that he would sign the $1.3 Trillion bill I switched over to CNN and MSNBC and they immediately went into full attack mode explaining how "unpresidential" Trump was.
They got everything they wanted and couldn't find a way to say that this is OK for them.... Pathetic.
I'm waiting for Ayock to explain to us why Trump shouldn't be signing this.
“were you asleep for 8 years? “
Possibly... it seemed to be a nightmare.
Your guy had 8 years. Why didn’t he fix that ?
It always surprises me that when there is a tax cut it always goes to those that are actually paying taxes.
LITE to acquire OCLR for $9.99 per share
March 12 (Reuters) - Laser and optical fibre specialist Lumentum Holdings Inc, seen by analysts as a parts supplier for Apple's Face ID technology, will buy optical components producer Oclaro Inc for about $1.7 billion in cash and stock.
Announcing the deal on Monday, California-based Lumentum said the purchase was aimed at broadening its portfolio of laser offerings and getting an edge in a fast-developing market for 3D sensing technology.
Technology sector analysts say Lumentum is the primary supplier of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) that power the Face ID feature in Apple Inc's premium iPhone X.
However, neither Apple nor Lumentum have publicly said that this is the case.
The offer price of $9.99 per share, consisting of $5.60 in cash and 0.0636 of a share of Lumentum common stock, represents a premium of 27.3 percent to Oclaro's closing price of $7.85 on Friday.
The deal is expected to generate more than $60 million of annual run-rate synergies within 12 to 24 months of the closing of the deal and immediately add to Lumentum's adjusted earnings per share, the companies said in a joint statement.

One Of Georgia’s Safest Cities REQUIRES Its Citizens To Own A Gun, But CNN Doesn’t Know Why Crime Is So Low
When it comes to America’s response to gun crime, one Georgia town has been thinking outside the box since 1982, when its leaders passed a law requiring it citizens to own a firearm.
The Kennesaw, Georgia, law states that “every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm,” according to CNN, and was reportedly passed as a deterrent to crime.
“It was meant to be kind of a crime deterrent,” Kennesaw Police Lt. Craig Graydon, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, told CNN. “It was also more or less a political statement because the city of Morton Grove, Illinois, passed a city ordinance banning handguns from their city limits.”
As for would-be criminals looking for an easy mark, judging by the crime statistics it seems most have bypassed the Georgia town and moved on to easier targets. Even CNN was forced to admit that Kennesaw, populated by 33,000 people, has only had “one murder in the last six years and a violent crime rate of below 2%.”
“But,” writes CNN, “it’s unclear whether that has anything to do with the gun law.”
Kennesaw’s mayor sees it differently.
“If you’re going to commit a crime in Kennesaw and you’re the criminal — are you going to take a chance that that homeowner is a law-abiding citizen?” asked Mayor Derek Easterling.
“It gives me the ability to protect myself as opposed to being somewhere where you weren’t allowed to have a firearm or it was frowned upon,” said Wayne Arnold, a local resident who is a fan of the law.
With the gun issue being in the spotlight of late, town officials have been getting plenty of attention from all over the world about their law.
“We get a lot of calls, conversation, and it seems to keep crime control, gun safety, things like that on the minds of many of the residents, because people are constantly talking about the gun law,” Lt. Graydon told CNN. “So that’s been somewhat of a benefit to us.”
Arnold noted the expectation of a “Wild West” environment with everyone walking around “with a firearm strapped to their side.”
“And it’s not like that,” said Arnold. “It’s strictly a home defense system type of deal. There’s no shootouts down the street.”
And a lot less crime than your average American city.

OK... Then try PAYC. Headquartered in Oklahoma City.
Great forward guidance, increasing forward guidance, beating estimates, increasing sales.
But, as you probably already know this is widely known by the market so it's very expensive
Take a look at JOBS if you like stuff that's going up.
The productivity myth is alive and well...
Overall productivity is the gross total of stuff produced, or sold, divided by the cost of labor to produce it.
Productivity has been "increasing" ever since you have been complaining that more and more businesses have been using overseas labor to make their stuff. The net result is that our GDP is going up ( giving the illusion that productivity is going up ) but what is really going on is that our labor force is being under cut by lower overseas wage workers.
The increase in manufacturing sales is divided by lower labor cost making it look like productivity is increasing.
The US labor force is actually at LOWER PRODUCTIVITY... given how little they produce for what they are being paid. The evidence is everywhere... Beach lifeguards at a salary over $100,000, $80,000 a year for a union guy to push a button at a sheet metal press making parts. And when they retire and do their "2ond dipping" by coming back to their previous job they are getting paid even more than the bloated salary they received when on the standard payroll, now coming back as a contractor.
Many, Many examples of large paychecks for very little work that's provided... All evidence of LOW PRODUCTIVITY.
With near record levels of workers not in the labor force, record number on "disability"... that's not evidence of a highly productive work force.
"The Seattle-based online retailer will end up paying out roughly $769 million in taxes for the year, but $724 million of that will be in foreign taxes. "
Shame on them for adhering to the law and paying taxes to foreign countries.
I wonder why your guy didn't fix that... He had 8 years and didn't do anything about it.

North Korea Ready To Denuclearize "If Regime Safety Is Guaranteed"
Score another diplomatic victory for Trump, whose hard line negotiating tactic appears to have generated a dramatic - and favorable for market - outcome. Moments ago futures spiked, 10Y yields jumped and the USDJPY bounced about 106 on the flashing "bullish" news headline that North Korea is "ready to denuclearize if regime safety is assured."
NKOREA OPEN TO DENUCLEARIZE IF REGIME SAFETY GUARANTEED: SKOREA
The headlines come from South Korean National Security Office special envoy Chung Eui-yong, who is speaking to reporters in Seoul after returning from Pyongyang. Remember he and another envoy, National Intelligence Service chief Suh Hoon met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang on Monday. Chung confirms that North Korea is indeed ready to stop the jawboning and negotiate:
Kim Jong Un open to frank talks with U.S. for denuclearization: Chung
North Korea to suspend provocations during talks: Chung
Promises not to use any weapons against South Korea: Chung
Next step: a summit in April between the two neighbors where details will be ironed out: "North Korea, South Korea agree to hold summit in April", Chung says.
The easing of tensions between the two Koreas and this clearly positive geopolitical development has triggered a broad based risk-on move. Fixed income is selling off sharply here, with Bunds flying. As the spot KRW market is closed, the NDF space is in focus. The 1m NDF has traded from 1076.0 to 1070.8 at time of print. USDJPY is spiking higher at 106.10 at print. This move may have legs especially as early NY begins to come in

I told them not to take my yacht to Bali.
Yes, the explanation is very simple...
They must have lied on the 10K filed with SEC.gov. Certainly The New Republic couldn't have possibly be reporting fake news.
Amazon reported a provision for taxes of:
In 2015 they reported $950 million
In 2016 they reported $1,425 million
In 2017 they reported $769 million

The ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER
This one is a little different
Two Different Versions, Two Different Morals.
OLD VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
MORAL OF THE OLD STORY:
Be responsible for yourself!
MODERN VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.
CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
America is stunned by the sharp contrast.
How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green'.
ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, We shall overcome.
Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright has the group kneel down to pray for the grasshopper's sake.
President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Trump, President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight.
Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.
Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.
The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.
The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize and ramshackle, the once prosperous and peaceful, neighborhood.
The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.
MORAL OF THE STORY:
Be careful how you vote in 2018 and 2020
I've sent this to you because I believe that you are an ant!
You may wish to pass this on to other ants, but don't bother sending it on to any grasshopper's, because they wouldn't understand it, anyway !
That is correct... But you can set things up so that looking at multiple symbols is quick and easy. You would have to select each symbol. And you will only see one at a time.
I haven't set it up this way but I'm fairly certain you can put multiple "Trade Tools" on the same screen at Schwab. The trade tool gives all the current info and is updated in real time. I have several "Tabs" set up with a trade tool in each tab so I can see the details on different stocks. I do have to select a different tab each time. Multiple tabs effectively gives me several trade windows. So I have a trade window, a position screen, a chart of the selected symboll and a chart of SPY on each of the tab set ups. Works for me.
Each trade window can be coded so that when you are looking at a potential stock order the chart is automatically displayed. Charts have many options for types and range.
Each trade window has a drop down that will hold about 20 pre entered symbols so with 5 tabs you can review 100 details very easy.
OK... It looks like the math part of the challenge got the best of you.
Let's simplify this... So that you don't have to do any arithmetic, just tell us if the national debt was higher or lower at the end of Obama's term than it was at the beginning. Thanks.
Please tell us what the level of the national debt was when Obama took office and what the level of the national debt was when he left office. Unless of course that leaves you math and accounting vocabulary challenged. Thanks.
"One girl who attends the Moscow military cadet academy said: 'I like working with machine guns. I want to do something for the benefit of my Motherland like all of us here.'

Here's the list of immigrant mass shootings, defined as a shooting at the same general time and location, not during the commission of another crime, that leaves at least four people dead -- i.e. no gangland shootings, no "man kills family, then self" and no drug deals gone bad.
On account of the Rule of Journalism that permits the word "immigrant" to be used only in sentences with the word "valedictorian," you may not have heard of some of these mass shootings at all.
1) Omar Mateen, son of Afghan immigrants, killed 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016.
2) First- and second-generation Pakistani immigrants Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik opened fire at a community center Christmas party in San Bernardino, California, on Dec. 2, 2015, killing 14 people.
3) English immigrant Christopher Harper-Mercer killed 9 people at Umpqua Community College in southwest Oregon on Oct. 1, 2015.
4) Kuwaiti immigrant Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez shot and killed five people in attacks on two military installations in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on July 16, 2015.
5) Second-generation Malaysian immigrant Elliot Rodger killed six people on May 23, 2014, around the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara.
6) Second-generation immigrant John Zawahri opened fire at his Southern California home and later at the campus of Santa Monica College on June 7, 2013, killing five in all. (The New York Times never mentioned that he was the child of Lebanese immigrants. The Times didn't even mention that his father used to beat up his mother, despite that paper's usual heightened interest in stories about men being mean to women.)
7) Cuban immigrant Pedro Alberto Vargas fatally shot six people in his apartment complex in Hialeah, Florida, on July 26, 2013.
8) Probable Barbadian immigrant Aaron Alexis shot and killed 12 people inside the Washington Navy Yard on Sept. 16, 2013. (See this.)
9) South Korean immigrant One L. Goh opened fire at Oikos University in Oakland, California, killing seven people on April 2, 2012.
10) Mexican immigrant Eduardo Sencion shot up an IHOP in Carson City, Nevada, on Sept. 6, 2011, killing four people -- three National Guardsmen and a 67-year-old woman.
11) Second-generation immigrant Nidal Malik Hasan, son of Palestinian immigrants, killed 13 people at Fort Hood, Texas, on Nov. 5, 2009.
12) Vietnamese immigrant Jiverly Wong shot up the Binghamton, New York, American Civic Association on April 3, 2009, killing 13.
13) Bosnian immigrant Sulejman Talovic fatally shot five people at the Trolley Square Mall in Salt Lake City on Feb. 12, 2007.
14) Seung-Hui Cho, a South Korean immigrant, slaughtered 32 people at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007.
15) Hmong immigrant Chai Soua Vang killed six hunters in northern Wisconsin on Nov. 21, 2004.
16) Mexican immigrant Salvador Tapia shot up the Windy City Core Supply warehouse in Chicago in 2003, killing six of his former co-workers.
There seems to be a good case for... If you know where the problem is... get rid of the problem.
I mean, if 47% of the mass shooting events are caused by illegals why not get rid of the illegals? Half the problem is solved. We can work on the rest of it.
Most of the rest of the problem seems to be a result of broken homes... Youngsters being rejected because of poor choices made by parents.
What do you think the answer is?
Getting rid of AR-15 rifles won't do it... They'll find something else.
