UPDATE: UK Gas Supplies Next Winter Uncertain -Natl Grid
>>>Florida needs NG!?!?! So does the UK, and I think that Florida might just be outbid. See especially the highlights.<<<
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
June 10, 2008 1:38 p.m.
(Updates with detail, background)
LONDON (Dow Jones)--As U.K. natural gas prices hit new highs, gas and power network operator National Grid PLC (NGG) said Tuesday that supplies for next winter are uncertain due to difficultly forecasting trade flows in liquefied natural gas and doubts over how much Norwegian imports could grow in the year ahead.
National Grid's initial expectation for U.K. gas supply next winter, excluding gas held in storage, is 300 million to 450 million cubic meters a day, a much wider range than usual.
It is unclear if two new LNG import terminals will be ready in time, National Grid said in its winter outlook report. The number of cargoes that will be delivered to them is even more uncertain, it said.
"U.K. and continental (European) gas prices are higher than those in the U.S., providing an incentive to deliver spot LNG cargoes to Europe. However as experienced last winter, the Far East may be again prepared to pay a premium to secure LNG cargoes," the report said.
Gas flows from LNG imports into the U.K. could be anywhere between zero and 83 mcm/day, the report said.
"From Norway we anticipate higher U.K. imports as Ormen Lange production builds up, however we acknowledge the potential for higher deliveries to the Continent at the expense of the U.K.," it said. Average flows could be between 80 mcm/day and 115 mcm/day, it said.
National Grid's report comes a day after the price of gas for delivery next winter rose above 100 pence a therm for the first time. The winter contract has risen almost 70% this year, driven largely by record oil prices.
Much of the gas traded in Europe is priced on long-term contracts in relation to oil, which in turn influences the free-floating U.K. gas price.
U.K. utilities are widely expected to impose a second increase on their customers' gas and electricity bills this year to make up for rising wholesale prices.
The top three energy suppliers by customer numbers - Centrica PLC (CNA.LN), Scottish and Southern Energy PLC (SSE.LN) and E.ON U.K., a subsidiary of E.ON AG (EOA.XE) - have hinted that they will raise prices.
Price comparison service uSwitch predicts the average household gas and electricity bill in the U.K. could be GBP1,327 by the end of 2008, an increase of 45.3% from the beginning of the year.
National Grid forecast lower demand for natural gas for power generation this winter, due in part to its high price. Electricity supplies are broadly unchanged from the previous year, and sufficient to meet demand, it said.
National Grid expects domestic U.K. gas production to be 10% lower this winter, compared to the previous year.

Aspen plans to open back up for skiers in June
by Jeffrey Wolf June 10, 2008
http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=93380&catid=188
ASPEN – Skiers who are still are not ready for summer to start will get another chance to take to the slopes this weekend.
The Aspen Skiing Company said Monday that it will open up Aspen Mountain from June 13 to 15 for skiers and snowboarders.
The company says record winter snowfall has left the mountain covered with snow, leaving behind an average of more than 3 feet of snow on the upper slopes.
So, for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aspen will open seven runs and about 45 acres of mostly intermediate terrain that is accessible by the Ajax Express chairlift.
The slopes will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Aspen/Snowmass Premier, Silver and 6-and-under passholders are free. All other Aspen/Snowmass passholders pay a discounted rate; adult passholders pay $19, youth and senior passholders pay $17 and child season passholders pay $12. Adult single day tickets will be $29 per day, youth and seniors will pay $26 and children's tickets will be $18. Tickets will be sold at the Aspen Mountain ticket kiosk on Gondola Plaza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily beginning Thursday. Regular summer rates will be in effect for foot passengers.

Looks like folks bought the dip on PWT.UN getting up to my sale price... but still I'm still up hmmm.
I'm actually out a few pennies on DAY.UN now..
Up on the CLL trade still..
up on HOD for now...
I gotta remember that PWT and DAY are both have lots of NG..
looking at the Portfolio this AM.....
Its the same kind of story
That seems to come down from long ago
Two friends having coffee together
When something flies by their window
It might be out on that lawn
Which is wide, at least half of a playing field
Because theres no explaining what your imagination
Can make you see and feel
Seems like a dream
(they) got me hypnotized
Ray halted ?
What made you want to hold off ? The 3K minimum .. slow response callback .. ? I understand IB has the same issues.. I hear folks bitch on SI about that. They like the execution of IB though.
I'm looking @ Questrade (I agree that I would prefer to just stick with my BMO and TD accounts) but trades on US stocks cost 1% each way forex commission.. If I do a quick ETF trade I need to factor that slippage in.. which eats away at quick flips where you are looking to scarf a grand say for an hours work...
I wouldn't put near to everything in.. and the draw is the USD holding in an RRSP.. beyond that I'd stick with the banks.. IB for international exposure..

do they net out the time actually spent playing :O)
Off to the big box man store to buy a door for a bathroom.. right now when company is over we are one bathroom short :O)

A few conversations:
Conversation 1: Manager of an ethanol plant in N Central IA
My friend operates a plant in that area. He came home this weekend for graduation activities. He noted that there were quarter sections of farmland under water as he drove thru IA. Corn that is planted is only up a few inches rather than the foot it should be. Some fields have not been planted...these more than likely will be planted to beans.
Things work in a close network at the plant in regards to buying corn. The purchasing department works closely with the neighboring farmers and their banker to work out financial agreements that benefits all three parties. The farmer can get his new equipment. The plant gets corn a bit lower than open market. The banker knows just what numbers to use in the cash flow analysis. Win win. The plant had a very good month in May. All of the corn they are using was contracted at $5.00 going out to September.
The owner of the plant is also a corn/ cattle farmer. He owns 30,000 acres - has anybody ever seen a 36 row planter? Mine was a measely 4 row International that used differerent sized plates for different kernel sizes.
Now thats's farming....
Conversation 2: Farmer friend from NW IA.
He got his corn in. It is even up! And, it isn't any further behind than his neighbot who got it in 2 weeks earlier.
He said people are very worried around his area. Corn can still do OK but it will definitely not be a boom. The brokers he is in contact with are saying that they really do not how hig things will go but go it will. He already sold corn this week on the cash market at 6.00-6.50. He advised hanging on to fertilizer since next year it will be fence row to fence row. I believe that is what is also driving the ferts. Next year will be quite interesting.
Have a good one.....
P.S. fwiw I added to DBA on Friday.

Agreed...if the N went in that is completely different.
Some guys do post-plant N to keep their options open.
I live in NE WI. We are getting DRENCHED! If the corn wasn't in before this deluge it will be awhile before they can get in again if at all. I have not seen any hay cut yet. Usually the first crop comes off by the first week of June. It won't be this year. Milk production will be down. Look for milk price increases as well.
Any ETF that includes milk?

We had a break in the weather early April and a lot of guys put N down not knowing it was going to turn back wet. Some of that N won't be worth a shit as if it sits wet long enough it will revert back to a type the plants can't use.
Not yet.. I'm giving BMO through the summer to fix their USD in RRSP issue,.. If not I'm opening a Questrade account with part of my funds .. tired of the double dipping on USD daytrades..
Almost too hot here 29 in the shade of the big blue spruce yesterday... supposed to be warmer today.. and we have sun..

In Ontario, where they don’t fool around, they have already imposed a 100 kph (60 mph) speed limit on the 18 wheelers and have placed governors on their engines to keep errant drivers under control when the law isn’t around. The Canadians have saved so much on their fuel bills that the American Trucking Association now is proposing we do the same thing right here in America and institute a 65 mph speed limit. I doubt if they really want the governors on their engines, but they like the savings on the diesel bill.
Interesting because they also passed a 'street racing' law whereby you are subject to an instant impounding of your vehicle and up to 10K fine for doing better than 50kph over the limit.. Anyone that drives the 401 knows that 150kph is not uncommon and cruising speeds of 130KPH or better are typical (a little over 80mph)... Someone doing the limit is a hazard.. Part of that problem though is that as a rule (my experience only) Canadian drivers are not very good or courteous.. (I'm Canadian)

You too later john.. Beautiful day here..
LOL I'm just feeling along in braille too my friend ... otherwise I'd already be there.. :O)
Yeah that's along the same vein. Many of ours radiate out from the lake north / south.. .. Up near the zoo there is a lot of hydro right away and conservation land.. couple of small rivers... You can get in there and it's pretty wild in places... I tend to go off track mostly so the doggies can run off leash...
They can mitigate the switch with tax pools though initially (in some cases DAY.UN, PWT.UN) ... I think Pennwest wants to GROW.... Anyway I'm just under 30% cash..
This has been my plan as you know, often thwarted, to be high cash by summer.. (higher still) ... working the plan... maybe this time my timing is right... finally .... ;o)
From my cleaned up and abbreviated SI profile..

I gotta say though that if Toronto has any redeeming qualities for me it's all the greens space... we get coyotes too.. mostly only from dusk though... They are not too bold out here but I gotta watch the doggies.. They wouldn't be 'food' but with their strong prey and pack instincts they wouldn't be running away...
