The little b-tards take their sweet time getting out and waltzing to the bus while the rest of us who have to get to work just sit there.
While I "Just sit there" I remind myself that in a few short years, they will be forfeiting a considerable chunk of their income to support my generation. These thoughts never fail to turn frowns into smiles.
Cheers, PW.
This cover is a "Head Scratcher" for me.
Do they not know it's "Dawn" of a New Day, meaning a fresh beginning?
Or are they trying to associate President Trump with another kind of Don, the Mafia Don?
Or are they saying we're putting on a new day like someone dons a hat?

Thank-you for sharing the Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey video. It brought back memories.
Whenever I hear them, I can't help but recall that Wilko has a degree in English and studied Icelandic culture. Goes to show that it's challenging to divine someone's past when looking at their present.

Trump is not the only one who's frustrated by the media. . .
Can't copy/paste pics anymore. I guess that's the coming trend.
I've noticed that "Change" too. I work around it using screen capture tools. Windows comes with a handy utility, SnipTool, that does a nice, but basic, job.

Why were they drilling?
I have no idea why they were making that hole. I'd guess that they'd be confident the ice was thick enough for whatever load they were planning to have it carry.
When we were kids, we had an ice thickness reminder for skating on a pond.
One inch, stay away
Two inches, one may
Three inches, small group.
Four inches, OK!
These guys were dealing with ice three feet thick!
Cheers, PW.
Help!
In the old days one could take someone like that aside and bring the situation to their attention and maybe suggest a solution.
A few years ago, our government published a booklet to help immigrants adapt to our society. It contained some basic information, such as not emptying bowels or bladders on neighbours’ lawns, and to not raise livestock in high-rise apartment buildings. In short, it encapsulated much of how people who live in our society expect others to behave.
Sure enough, some people became upset over this booklet, calling it insensitive to other cultures and insulting. In response, our government no longer makes this publication available.
Not surprising, many immigrants expressed how grateful they were that this guide was available when the arrived, claiming it helped them fit in to their new surroundings quickly and smoothly.
So here we have it. A booklet aimed at one group who needs it, wants it, and appreciates it, criticized by a different group. One could be forgiven for feeling that the second group needs to learn about minding their own business. It’s not difficult to guess the political leanings of both these groups.
Cheers, PW.
P.S. When I proof-read my message, a thought popped into my head. . .
If I were commissioned to write a booklet of "Rules for Other People" what would I say?
For starters, almost every message on the "Rants" thread!
The article hit a "sore spot."
Decades ago, our company hired a man who had bad breath. Nobody could identify the cause of it, but everyone knew the source. More than one person ran to the washroom to vomit. Socially, the guy was like an inverse black hole – repelling instead of attracting.
The guy was quite bright. He was an Engineer. He had an outgoing personality. He worked in isolation. Everyone refused to go near him. Even flies didn’t land in his area.
Eventually, the guy had a breakdown. Sad. But for us, problem solved.
The guy had immigrated recently from a country well known for curry. One can only speculate how different things would have turned out for him if even only one person had the courage to confront him about this issue.
On the other hand, nobody thought it would be in their interest to risk disciplinary repercussions for being insensitive.
Cheers, PW.
P.S. What would I do if a similar situation arose today? Would I do the “Right” thing or do the “Safe” thing?
You stink! Go home and take a bath.

This guy devastates a Liberal on Second Amendment. He formulates his questions like a skilled Chess player, first setting the trap, placing the bait, and allowing the prey to become captured. If he weren't dealing with such an important issue, the 3 minute video would be quite funny.
Many sources claim the "Adopt a Terrorist" letter, dated 2014 to be a hoax. I doubt its authenticity too. The letter was signed by Gordon O'Connor, our Minister of Defence in 2006 and 2007. Mr. O'Connor left the Cabinet in 2013.
Since then, Canadians have elected a Liberal Government; hence, we have a new Minister of Defense.

Whenever I hear the Beach Boys sing "Surfin USA" or Chuck Berry's "Sweet Sixteen" I think of the plagiarizm charges and resulting lawsuit.
Story
Cheers, PW.
One of my favorite Beach Boy tunes was 409, but I prefer the one where they take a back seat and let Junior Brown run with it.
I tried the reaction test multiple times and with each challenge my results improved. I gave up after the site guessed my age at one-half the number of birthdays I've enjoyed.
Then I became curious. I was tapping the keyboard with my thumb. But while driving, I don't tap the brakes with my thumb, I use my foot.
So off with my slippers and with the keyboard on my office floor, I gave the site another chance to either flatter or insult me.
My time was only a tiny bit slower, but I wasn't happy with the crunching sound my keyboard made when I pounded it with my foot. (It's a good thing I didn't use my laptop!)

When I want a "special" character, I turn to the Windows Character Map.
Here, I can find what I want and see what it looks like in any of the fonts on my system.
It's then a simple matter of selecting it and clicking on the Copy button.

Thank-you for sharing the Thanksgiving Day dinner video. It makes me feel much better about keeping the kitchen floor washed and using unbreakable dishes for serving food when I invite people for a meal.

I wonder why there's so much antagonism toward the Millennial generation. Surely they can't be as bad as they're portrayed.
I watched the short video of Shultz and found it interesting enough that I was motivated to hear what he had to say in the full length version.
But it's over an hour long. I have no desire to be parked in front of my computer that long. Besides, it appears that he's just sitting there talking: I have no need to SEE this.
My solution was to download the audio, put it on my MP3 player and listen to him while I'm busy doing other stuff. It's a 150 Meg file!
For those who'd like to take this approach, I used this site to handle the conversion:

. . .I have worked as a welder, plumber, electrician, furnace cleaner, cook, waiter, painter, telephone lineman, and finally as a teacher. . .
Like you did, it seems many people in earlier generations wore a collection of different hats throughout their lifetimes. Maybe it contributed to their ability to adapt to change. And maybe it has augmented the effectiveness of their bullshit detectors too. At the very least, it made them into stronger and better people.
We "younger" ones owe you so much. Too bad so few of us recognize it.
Thank-you.

Although I agree with the idea of punishing rioters, ending their support payments may not be the best approach.
I'd rather see them face some corporal punishment.
I can't imagine seeing a few of their companions getting flogged will encourage much emulation among their peers.
Of course, we could do both.

It may be a good idea to check your computer's licensing status.
In Control Panel, click on System. Near the bottom of the window that opens, under Windows Activation, you should see the words "Windows is activated."

FWIW, after years of disappointing computers. . .
From time to time, I come across articles dealing with computer reliability. Unfortunately, it seems that whenever the question of reliability comes up, those articles have long since vanished from my memory.
But there are some interesting "finds" when one researches computer reliability. Here are a couple:
This one deals with systems from major vendors and is a fascinating read, but it's several pages long.
PC World
This guy builds computers and he's sharing his experience with various components he's used.
Components
My personal experience. . .
Consumer computers are junk compared to their business counterparts from the same manufacturers -- so if you can, buy through their business division.
Off-lease computers are a good bargain: they're often high-end business systems that were well built in the first place. After 3 years of use, any initial problems they had have been dealt with,. The price is compelling. THEY DON'T COME PRE-lOADED WITH CRAPWARE! As a bonus, the people you'll be dealing with are based in North America; hence, you'll understand what they're saying and they'll understand you.
My apologies for bringing a computer message to the No-Lib thread. (But we're all using computers here too, so maybe it's not so bad.)
Cheers, PW.
