"I kinda feel like I am pretty much contemplating my navel but the increasing short position, given the fundamentals defies my comprehension. (ah, maybe I just hit on the real root of the problem)"
I think we are all a bit baffled by the large short position. The only explanation that makes sense to me is that much of it is a hedge on a much larger long position.
Of course. Sell.
So what got you so psyched up on Sep 10, 2001?

So I guess the recommendation here is wait 4 years, paddle about, and hope for the best? :)
Numbers would be hard to come by, but the pinks are literally littered with dead enterprises.
TCLIF has joined these ranks, but due to laws enabling corporate eternal life we are witness to a mummy waiting for resurrection by some future savior. For the time being my shares still represent a cost over value just to liquidate.
Lazarus, Lazurus, come forth Lazarus!
Have you called the Wavx help desk?
By all means call Wave and ask them how to get you the info that you need. They should have answers. Let them know that you are a share holder and want to buy products that use their software. Let them know that you would like to post the results of your experiences here.
IMHO most Wavoids are committed to long term prospects. Certainly some hold shares for trading, but this kind of trading would only be effective on major moves up and down: e.g. buy low, sell high.
I myself need to sell some shares to pay monthly bills. As WAVX sits on the cusp of a Q1 report of record earnings and perhaps its first profitable quarter, Wavoid selling would approach a minimum. Market action at current volume indicates many larger players. Now that selling for tax purposes is ending, I expect pressure to mount on the upside. Good news would really sail longs forward. My most interesting question remains: When do shorts capitulate?
I do believe Q1 will show a profit, but I tend to be optimistic and certainly could be wrong. Revenues will be up for sure.
Do you plan to cover when Wave reports positive earnings in May?
Keep your eyes open for the May earnings report.
Wave Systems (NASDAQ:WAVX) has gross margin of 93.2%, a sales growth of 35%, and trailing 12 months sales of $26.1 million.
http://www.zacks.com/research/get_news.php?id=100l0598
You might want to check in after the next earnings report in May.
WAVX FYI: Snackman and Weby have both acknowledged movement to another board, but they peek in here every once in a while. Personally I do not think a moderator is really necessary. Let the participants self police. I am willing to both accept and give criticism when due. When the pot really boils over IHub administrators always appear quick to turn the stove down.
Has anybody tried to calculate the WAVX short interest share number vs the long Wavoid held share number? Another interesting number would be adding known fund holdings to the Wavoid holding. My optimistic rough guess is for a ratio of 1:10, i.e. shorts to longs, but I could be waves off.
Also there has not been much discussion on the rationale for the short interest on WAVX. My guess is that a large part of the short interest is a hedge against a substantial long position. This would take away a lot of the current negative angst among longs regarding the huge short interest.
Recent volume does not support either a short push or a long push. My guess is that the current down trend is tax related. This down pressure ends this Friday.
Some people may be selling to raise some cash for tax purposes. SP should rise as we approach the earning report in early May.
Sancon Resources Recovery, Inc., a growing waste logistics and recycling company with main operations located in China, announced today that it has entered into an acquisition agreement with a profitable Beijing environmental services company. On March 25, 2011, Sancon signed a letter of intent with Beijing JDY Environmental Recycling Co., Ltd. (or "Beijing JDY"), under which Sancon's majority owned subsidiary Sancon Shanghai will acquire 51% equity of Beijing JDY. Sancon management believes this acquisition will contribute over US$15M revenue annually with healthy future growth projections.
Sancon Resources Recovery, Inc., a growing environmental services and waste recycling company with its main operations located in China, today announced results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ended December 31, 2010. Financial highlights of 2010 fourth quarter are: Revenue in 2010 fourth quarter was $3.55 million, an increase of 25% compared to $2.85 million for the fourth quarter of 2009.
That should certainly inject some fuel into WAVX.
Oct 2.50 calls continue to look very good.
"I wonder where the SP would be without the 10 million shorts?"
The answer may start to unfold in the near future.
I and some others read both boards. I prefer this one for its ease of use. Critical stuff on the other one often gets reposted here.
In your dreams the stock will suddenly resurrect and establish a new following of pumping fanatics. Understanding this you will quickly sell your remaining holdings and move on to greener pastures.
From this day on you will hold an annual prayer session: TCLIF RIP
Wave has deep roots with Nat'l. Semi.
Hopefully the relationship will carry through to the merged entity:
The story goes that Peter Sprague, while the head of National Semiconductor (a job he held for some 30 years, and took them from the pink sheets to a multi-billion dollar global company), came up with the idea for a digital meter. He reasoned that digital bits were like electricity in the beginning; i.e. they could get it to your house, but didn't know how to charge for it. He thought the idea so revolutionary, that he patented the idea outside of NSM, and formed a company around it. The premise was that somehow OEM's would include the meter chip in every computer, and Wave would get a small piece of every transaction that washed across it.

Consider the issue of "rapid growth" vs. healthy growth.
If growth is too rapid, resources get stretched and the beast is weakened. A good product quickly faces poor support and gets publicly panned. Vultures flock in.
Wave has managed to stay debt free and grow at a sustainable rate while keeping a good face on customer support. This may be a bit too slow for "make me rich now" shareholders, but the process has proven just about right for internal structural strength. Q1 results will validate this and we should see SP respond. The short vultures will fight hard, but their days are numbered now by months rather than years.
Reported spam.
Not really! He and many others also loaded up near the lows last year. I would guess that most longs are in the money and continue to accumulate.
WAVX is currently focused and geared to handling larger accounts. I think involving individuals at this point in time would require a good size increase in customer service which would not provide a good return on investment.
Our day will come, probably soon, as will the campaign for the individual user.
Most of that was in the last minute!!
I agree.
WAVX is likely working hard today to lock in all possible Q1 sales. Perhaps we might get some news next week.
Oct 22 2.50 calls continue to look very attractive.
Revenue for the year ended December 31, 2010 was $37,168,351, a decrease of $6,482,606 or (14.9%), compared to $43,650,957 for the year ending December 31, 2009. The decrease was the result of an unfavorable impact of a $2,008,830 currency translation effect arising from a lower USD/Euro exchange rate. The decrease in 2010 revenue of $4,473,776 over 2009, in constant currency, was attributable to a decrease in our Mobile revenue of $2,739,253; Middle East pre-paid calling cards revenue $584,135 and premium rate services ("PRS") revenue of $1,052,625. Other landline services decreased by $97,763 compared to the same period in 2009.

Social Security numbers and other personal information have been popular targets by cyber crooks. But a new report says thieves have shifted their focus to corporate data such as trade secrets and marketing plans, making it the "new currency" of the underworld economy. The report, based on a global survey of more than 1,000 senior IT workers, follows recent headlines of hacker attacks on Nasdaq OMX Group, RSA Security and energy companies.

That's what I thought.
So every time WAVX makes a strong move up, we can expect margin calls going out to shorts. Time to ask Jermart at what level he might be forced to cover.
Can you please explain the fee structure when your shorted stock rises beyond your account value?
Equipping a standard laptop with LynxSecure and self-encrypting hard drive (SED) technology from Wave Systems keeps corporate and personal data safe from physical theft or cyber attacks. If the laptop is stolen, the data on the self-encrypting hard drive is not accessible to the thief, providing data-at-rest security.

October 2.5 calls looking very good here.
WAVX will go profitable this quarter.
New shares have kept it afloat. There is no debt.
Prospects are very, very good.
Thanks
Pretty nice close today. Lot's of short covering. May it continue.
Yes!!
Oct 2.50 call options are very attractive here.
