i agree with Suzie, I think your very creative and comical
I agree, shame the best hitter in the game the past 10 years has to be such a putz.
rofl, We will have to send that to his agent and see if we can get a answer....lol
rofl @ Manny What has Manny done now? Says if he doesn't get a serious offer soon he will retire..lol
I agree, it is a excellent deal if it can be pulled off.
there are 2 reasons that are floating around, the other being the Brewers want a 2nd player and the other is yankees want the brewers to eat some of his salary.I think either of them is insane.Brewers want to shed salary and Yankees want to shed Melky.
I definitly think he is more than capable. Since we are losing Moose we don't want to have another pitching position open since we have enough holes at that spot to begin with. I don't think they need to act like they have to replace everyone. If they can get CC this year and A.J. Maybe next year they can pick up someone else or maybe Hughes might be ready thisyear. But they sure can't put all their eggs in one basket. I think they are going to be forced to give A.J. the 5th year he is looking for.
I like the fact that the Dodgers are sticking to their guns with Manny. The meetings coming up in Dec should really pick things up.
I didn't expect him to answer right away. Record deal offer or not. I think he wants to see if there is a place that wants him that he wants to play and get money close to that offer. If he doesn't get it then I expect him to sign. Now that word leaked out they would be willing to go to 150 mil I fully expect him to hold out for that. Yankees are making a mistake letting Andy dangle out there. I think he can pitch and the stats show he can pitch. Just not as many innings.
Probably because he would have been hounded by the NY press about it being his last season and wanting to be interviewed. He has always been a low key guy and probably knew it would have been a distraction to him.
I think he is done, I don't think he will go to another team. I would be shocked if he did. I think his goal would be to win a world series and to reach the personal goal of 300 wins. Realisticly he would have to play probably 3 years to do that so this would be a 3 year decision. He has said that many times. If I am in for 1 I am in for 3. He doesn't want to get to 295 and fall short.
I think the prices are crazy for things at the game. But I also think that the owners would be stuffing all that much more money in their pockets if they didn't give it to the players. I don't see them ever droping prices for the fan.
Does seem very angry doesn't he. Maybe we could send him some flowers. You know, just to let him know we are here for him if he needs to talk..lol
Gee Burk I guess you they just didn't find you important enough to listn to you.
The Yankees, for the second time inside a week, are on the verge of making an eye-popping offer to a free-agent pitcher and behaving like the days when The Boss threw money at free agents with both hands.
The Yankees, according to several industry insiders, spent yesterday preparing an offer - perhaps a five-year deal worth about $80 million - for Toronto righty A.J. Burnett. This would come after they offered Milwaukee lefty CC Sabathia a six-year contract worth between $140 million and $145 million.
So how many have the Twins won during that time?
It has been proven over and over again that you can buy a competitive team but can not but the world series. I don't know why some people have such a hard time understanding that. Now your insulting the fans of the Yankees is just plain silly, rude and imature. But so whats your point in all this. That the winningest team in all of baseball of all time is bad? Now, there are alot of factors in this. Anyone who knows anything about baseball would know the answer to this. But since your asking I take it you know nothing about baseball. Here is a good example. The Texas Rangers had a team that could light up the baseball years ago like the yankees have had up until this season. But they had no pitching. Yankees had no pitching. They tried to outslug everyone. Now, as the payroll is coming off the books they are looking to get pitching. It is very easy. Even my now 12 year old son knows this.
Your as wrong as could be. So the owners should just stuff their pockets with all the money they earn or should they share it with the people who make them that money. The sure are not going to give it back to their fans. They stick enough cash in their swiss bank accounts. Let them spend some cash. Maybe someday they will win the series again.
lol thats how I got it in my e-mail as the headline so thats what game me the idea to do that..lol
Yankees sell rights to pitcher Rasner for $1
million to team in Japan
Right-handed pitcher Darrell Rasner, who started 20 games for the New York Yankees last season, has been sold to a team in Japan for $1 million, his agent said.
Rasner, 27, expects to sign a two-year deal with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of the Pacific League, agent Matt Sosnick said.
Sosnick said he and Rasner recently approached New York general manager Brian Cashman and told him that Rasner would like to pitch in Japan, and that Cashman and scout Hiroshi Abei helped facilitate the deal.
"Brian made a big effort to make it happen," Sosnick said.
"He really bent over backwards to make this work for Darrell and his family."
Rasner, a second-round draft pick by Montreal in 2002, has a 9-15 record with a 5.00 ERA in four major league seasons.
After getting off to a 3-0 start for the Yankees last season, Rasner finished with a 5-10 record and a 5.40 ERA.
Jerry Crasnick covers baseball for ESPN Insider.
I think he is a great fit there. They love him and I say Manny probably has another good 4 years left in him.. We both know there was noway they made the playoffs without Manny. They are willing to build a team around Manny. They are looking to sign Randy Johnson now to. They want to make a run and Manny is the guy to lead them there. It made the hitters around him better to because now pitchers had to pitch to them.
Moose says he will probably retire. What is weighing so heavy on his mind is he has said if he is in for 1 he is in for 3 because he wants that 300 wins. I think he is gauging to see if anyone will give him atleat a 2 year deal with a 3rd year option. If any talks only will go as far as 1 year then I think he will retire. That anyone also has to include a winning team to give him that chance to pile up wins. We do need pitching but we also need some productive hitting. There were many 1 run games we lost because we couldn't advance the runner. We had guys who were swinging for the fences and would end up popping out. Fat out we need contact hitters. If you have a guy on 2nd base and nobody out and he doesn't score 7 out of 10 times, thats a problem.
Shame, one of the best hitters in the history of the game. So many don't Want him. I don't want him. Years ago I did when he was leaving Clev. But he got just to plain wierd.
Excuse me there Burk, But did the Twins win the world Series and I miss it? I think you have anger issues that you need to address with some medication and if you are already on that medication then I say up your dose pal.
Now, Excel runs a class board here, we don't always agree with each on here and in some reguards we do agree. But we do so in a intelligent way which I see you were not aware of and in a respectful way which I see your lacking in that to. The Twins are a class team. You should try using that class.
O.T. I saw a article on Fox Sports that said this win over the Pats really wasn't a big deal. I say sure it is. Even though Brady isn't there they are still the Patriots and still were tied for 1st place.
It is a good deal because they really gave up nothing to get him. Had they givin up more I wouldn't be happy. He had a down year last year and could have a better year this year. It looks like it is the pitching where they are really going to put their money into because Swisher isn't going to cost them that much.
I think this is his way of staying in the game in case something doesn't come up. I am sure he doesn't have a huge amount of confidence as he took a beating with the Mets and the Mets just because of the money they spent were just not that good. Did they improve after Wilie left? yes they did. But he had lost the team with all the media distractions. Their pen blowing leads got magnified into speculation over when willie will be gone. They did the same thing when Willie was gone, just not as much. It wasn't. So maybe he just isn't confident that he will get the managers position yet.
Some rublings are that Moose will retire. He has said a few times if he is in for 1 he is in for 3 because he will be that much closer to 300. You can't blame him for retiring as he pitched great this year but he sure isn't hurting for money. He is also very smart and into investing so he is set for life and could ride into the sunset.
Well then they will have to spend more. So instead of them making 40 million they will probably make only 20 million. I am sorry, but I feel they should spend their money. I think with revenue sharing instead of them putting the money in their pockes and calling it cough cough player development they should put it in the team.
The good old boys not letting Mark Cuban buy the Cubs? This is America right? If you are able to afford what is for sale and want to buy it a bunch of shriveled up old millionairs shouldn't be able to say no.
Report: Baseball won't let Cuban buy Cubs
Mavs owner gives no credence to source who says he has 'zero chance'
DENVER - Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban remains as interested as ever in buying the Chicago Cubs, dismissing a report that Major League Baseball might not want him as an owner.
According to a Chicago Sun-Times report that cited a baseball source, there was “zero chance” of Cuban taking over the Cubs.
The Sun-Times source said the Internet billionaire would meet with resistance in trying to get approval from Major League Baseball.
Cuban wouldn’t comment on the report before the Mavericks played Denver on Friday night.
“There’s no reason to comment on anonymous comments from unsolicited sources. I mean it’s ridiculous,” Cuban said.
Cuban is in the running to purchase the team from the Tribune Co. after reportedly bidding more than $1 billion.
Others believed to be interested are a group headed by John Canning, chairman of private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners LLC; and the family of online brokerage Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts.
“Nothing’s changed,” Cuban said. “I mean it’s a great opportunity.”
They do have time to sign him for less money if he wants to come back. More imporantly is Andy wants back. I saw this on another site and I think bringing Andy back is a good idea.
If Pettitte wants to return, it makes a ton of sense for the Yankees to re-sign him. We've already stated that we want him back on a 1-year deal, but even a 2-year deal (which he supposedly wants) wouldn't be the end of the world. It wouldn't be optimal, but we could work with it. Detractors shout, "He had 14 losses and a 4.54 ERA!11!!" However, that argument displays a mere surface level understanding of pitcher evaluation. Let's recap some of the points we've made about the large-nosed Texan:
1. Only 11 MLB pitchers have thrown more innings than Pettitte over the last two seasons (419 1/3 IP). Innings are kind of a big deal.
2. His ERA was 4.54, but his FIP was 3.74, which shows he was a victim of some poor defense and bad luck.
3. His groundball rate, K/9, and K/BB were all better in 2008 than in 2007.
4. His line drive percentage was only 0.5% higher in 2008 than in 2007.
Andy is still a quality starter
Thats a very interesting point. What if there is a pitcher that is very good at pitching but can hit like Babe Ruth did? What do you do with him? Let him sit in the N.L. and bat every 5 days? Do you let him sit in the A.L. and never bat? Or do you make him a 1st baseman and let him bat every day?
I think the rule should be changed to make either both A.L. and N.L. have the DH rule or neither league have the DH rule. If it were up to me I think we should have it no DH. Pitcher bats in both leagues. Would cut down on head hunting to since the pitcher has to go out and bat and face the team he just threw at. I think it makes baseball more strategic.
Looks like they will have no choice if they sign him which I think they will. To not sign him I think they would have to pull off the biggest blockbuster off season in History not to. Are they going to spend money? Sure they will but they would have to really dump more than that 80 million to fix their needs.
rofl, Yea, I bet they just love him there. When your teamates openly laugh at you to the press it is always a good sign how they feel about you..lol
I think them releasing that info shows the desperation state they are in for starting pitching. This could cost them more money as well. Pitchers will hold out for more money knowing it is either them or Carl Pavano. Hughes has shown his stuff could be great but maybe he is not as mature as everyone thinks. He seems to keep over throwing to throw as hard as he can making his pitch count go up and then when he doesn't have to stamina to keep throwing that hard he gets rocked. Kennedy was definitly not mature enough and really stuck on himself. He needs a realiy check which it seems he is getting by the amount of time he spent in the minors. I think this is flat out a bad idea.

DANA POINT, Calif. - When Carl Pavano walked off the mound on Sept. 25, most people assumed it would be the last time he would ever wear a Yankees uniform.
Not so fast.
Pavano, one of the biggest free-agent busts of all-time, could wind up back with the Bombers this winter as the Yankees look to fill three spots in their starting rotation.
FIXING THE YANKEES FOR 2009
General manager Brian Cashman, who inked Pavano to a four-year, $39.95 million contract in December 2004, remains a big fan of the oft-injured righthander, according to a source, making a return to the Bronx a realistic possibility for the 32-year-old.
"Cashman has definitely not closed the door on Pavano at all," the source said.
Cashman himself acknowledged that he is open to any and all options this winter, though he wouldn't specifically address Pavano's situation.
THE FANS VOTE: YANKEES KEEP 'EM OR DUMP 'EM
"I'm not ruling anything out," Cashman said. "We have needs, so we'll have to go to the marketplace, be it through free agency or through trades, to fill those needs."
Pavano's agent, Tom O'Connell, was at the St. Regis Monarch Beach resort Monday during the first day of the general manager's meetings to speak with Cashman about Pavano, though the two sides had not gotten together as of early Monday night.
Bringing back Pavano certainly won't be the big move the Yankees are looking to make this winter, but rather one that could help fill in the back end of the rotation.

CC Sabathia remains the big fish in the free-agent pond, one the Yankees figure to make a huge push to sign in the coming weeks. A published report Monday said the Brewers - who have another 10 days of exclusive negotiating rights with the big lefty - made Sabathia an offer over the weekend, though it is a virtual certainty that he will wait to test the market before signing a new contract.
Two industry sources at the GM meetings believed the Brewers' offer was in the $100 million range over five or six years, but it will likely take at least the $137.5 million and six years that Johan Santana got from the Mets to land Sabathia, the 2007 AL Cy Young winner.
"It's in their hands," Brewers GM Doug Melvin told The Associated Press when asked about Milwaukee's latest offer. "He hasn't really had a chance to talk with other teams."
Greg Genske, who represents Sabathia, arrived at the GM meetings Monday but did not stop to speak with reporters.
Cashman said that as of now, he counts only Chien-Ming Wang and Joba Chamberlain as certainties in the Yankees' 2009 rotation. Mike Mussina hasn't decided whether he wants to play next season and the Yankees haven't decided whether they want to bring Andy Pettitte back, leaving many questions about the state of the rotation.
"We won't be one and done," Cashman said.
Teams are not permitted to discuss financial terms with free agents on other teams until Nov. 14, though they are allowed to express their interest between now and then. Cashman has reached out to several free agents, though he wouldn't disclose which players or agents he has contacted.
"In some cases, it's pretty obvious," Cashman said.
O'Connell indicated that Pavano's first choice would be to return to the Yankees, a sign that the pitcher wants to prove his doubters wrong after four seasons wrought with injury and ridicule.
"At the end of the day, his first choice would be to come back to New York," O'Connell said. "He feels he has some unfinished business."
Unfortunately for Pavano and the Yankees, that wasn't very often. Pavano made just 26 starts in four years, going 9-8 with a 5.00 ERA. He made 17 starts in 2005 before missing the rest of the year with a bum shoulder, then started just twice in 2006-07 as a result of various injuries to his back, ribs, buttocks and elbow, the last of which resulted in Tommy John surgery, which he had in June 2007.
"His time in New York was difficult because he suffered some injuries that he couldn't control," O'Connell said. "As far as the organization, he loved the organization, the front office was always good to him, the coaching staff, his teammates - everyone. He enjoyed pitching for the Yankees when he was healthy."
Pavano returned from his elbow surgery in August to make seven starts, going 4-2 with a 5.77 ERA. He went five or more innings and allowed three runs or less in four of those outings, though pitchers returning from Tommy John surgery typically return to their previous form in their second season back. "When he's healthy, he can pitch," Cashman said.
I think his gam calling skills are the best there is in baseball. I feel the best evidence we have had was when he went down so did the pitching staff a couple of years ago and they completly fell out of playoff contention. I agree with Soxy and they don't have to give him Posada like money, but he is worth keeping for what he brings for the team which is much more worth his declining bat. He may work out this year and get in better shape, who knows. But as a Yankee fan I get to see my share of Boston and I feel the pitchers do better when he is calling the game behind the plate.
I happen to agree with some of the other posters. He calls the game better than any catcher that is on the game. His bat is getting bad but I saw what happened to the pitching staff when he was hurt a couple of years ago and think the same thing will happen again. I think they need to sign him even for just a couple more years and let him help train his replacement.
I think it is a bad move completly. They sure have the money to mak it happen but He wasso spoiled with Boston and theyenabled it that he expects to be able to do what he wants when he wants..
Yankees rumor is they are hot on Manny as was suspected they would be. I don't want Manny, greatest hitter of our time or not.He was spoiled by Boston as they let him do anything they wanted and he will want that to continue where ever he goes. I would not be surprised to see the Mets make a bid for Manny and CC. Could you imagine their Pitchin staff with CC and Johan.
I agree, you can't just say lets give him a contract like he is healthy and it would be a big PR disaster if they shorted him or got rid of him because of his illness. I say go with the inning incentice pay.
