SA/Phoenix vs Cleveland in the finals.
Basement sq footage doesn't count ......ever
The problem was they were tired and not as talented as you and the rest of the fans thought, pure and simple.Rasheed is a lazy clown who is on the decline.I'll bet no one here realizes Ben Wallace is on the decline .He will head to Chicago and make them very tough next year. They are a good shotblocker-rebounder away.Chicago and Cleveland(obvious reasons) are the two teams of the future in the east. I know Dallas is done when I hear stuff like Dirk is the best player in the game.Lebron is the best player on the planet and the margin will get bigger as gains experience. Adonis Haslem can cover Dirk and play him tough. Dampier and Diop will be in foul trouble all series long and Dallas will have fits with a healthy Wade. Dallas simply doesn't play D like Detroit and have no one that can matchup with Wade and Shaq.
You still like the Pistons? The East is the Beast. Miami in 6

Looks like the oil service sector getting hit -Rig down 5
Transocean posts profit, warns on first half '06
Tue Feb 14, 2006 9:08 AM ET
(Updates stock, adds analyst)
NEW YORK, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Oil drilling rig contractor Transocean Inc. (RIG.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on Tuesday said it swung to a profit for the fourth quarter on strong drilling demand, but it warned that results for the first half of 2006 will be constrained by lost service time and higher maintenance costs.
Transocean shares shed more than 8 percent in pre-market trading. Stanford Group analyst Philip Dodge downgraded the stock to "hold" from "buy" on the news and cut his 2006 earnings per share estimate to $3.10 from $3.80.
The company posted a net profit of $151.6 million, or 45 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier loss of $73.4 million, or 23 cents a share. Sales rose to $771.2 million from $676.9 million a year ago.
Analysts polled by Reuters Estimates on average expected earnings per share of 48 cents on revenue of $783.2 million.
The company said earnings in the first two quarters of this year should be "generally flat" with the fourth quarter, excluding gains from rig sales, from higher operating and maintenance expenses and lost revenue due to out-of-service time for rigs.
Analysts were expecting earnings per share of 69 cents in the first quarter and 95 cents a share in the second quarter.
The company said its operating and maintenance costs should decline in the second half of the year to be closer to the level of the fourth quarter, though the rate of decline could be slowed by the potential reactivation of two rigs and inflationary cost pressures.
Transocean shares were off $6.38 at $72.21 in active pre-market trading on Inet. Through Monday's close, the stock was up about 13 percent on the year, compared with a gain over the same period of about 10 percent for the oil services index <.OSX>, of which it is a component.
Holmgren couldn't get to Cowher immediatley after the game due to all the chaos on the field. Holmgren went to the Steeler locker room to congratulate Cowher. Chalk it up to ABC's piss poor coverage all game long
The refs sucked, so did Holmgren. Seattle should hire another coach ,though it won't happen. He is horrble ,one of the worst coached games I have ever seen. Does he understand clock management? Does he know who Alexander is? That guy was going to tear up a hole on the Steelers in the 2nd half had they continued to run the ball more. The Steelers D line was clearly worn down at the end of the game and all they had to do was give Alexander 7-9 more carries and Seattle is looking good. They had 400 yds of offense and 1 TO , yet they lost the freakin game! - only Holmgren and his cast of chokers(especially "Mr. Porter is right" Stevens) could manage to lose that game. That was the worst officiated game in a SB I have ever seen. No calls went Seattle's way -not one.
Yep, they'll recover ....hopefully :)
Sun's backlog "highest in years"
http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/060124/sunmicrosystems_earns.html?.v=5
......... Sun Microsystems said it had a net loss of $223 million, or 7 cents per share in its fiscal second quarter ended in December, compared with a year-ago net profit of $4 million, or nil per share. Revenue rose 17 percent to $3.34 billion from $2.84 billion, helped Sun's acquisition of Storage Technology Corp.
Excluding items, Sun had a loss of 1 cent per share. On that basis, analysts had expected a profit of 1 cent per share, on average, within a range of a loss of 2 cents per share to a profit of 4 cents per share. Revenue was pegged at $3.50 billion.
Sun has struggled since the bust of the dot-com and telecommunications investment bubbles five years ago and amid the rising popularity of servers using the Linux and Windows operating systems. It has also lost market share to rivals including Dell Inc. (NasdaqNM:DELL - News) and International Business Machines Corp (NYSE:IBM - News).
Revenue from the sale of its computer servers, workstations, data storage and other hardware rose 14.5 percent to $2.11 billion. Revenue from its services arm rose 22.7 percent to $1.23 billion from $1 billion.
Scott McNealy, Sun's chief executive officer, said in a statement that the Santa Clara, California-based company's backlog is "the highest in years." Sun has been rolling out new products in the last year or so, and McNealy has said that Sun now has the strongest line-up of products in its history.
"We are definitely seeing an uptick in demand," Sun President and Chief Operating Officer Jonathan Schwartz, referring to new Sun products such as its Galaxy servers said on the conference call for investors that followed the company's earnings release.........
Fair enough. However, I have enough perspective to know the best basketball players ever to play were in the 80's -Jordan,Magic,Bird,Isiah,Malone,Barkley,McHale,Worthy, on and on - atleast in my opinion. The 80's were special and I haven't seen a comparable period yet
OT Well it is hard to have an argument with someone who doesn't have a clue about sports. No one is comparing who the greater players are fool. We are comparing the performances. Wilt will be a greater player in his era than Kobe. It's way harder for a 6'6 guard to dominate than a 7'1 Center who played little guys. If KG played in that era , he'd destroy the competetition. Athletes of today are SUPERIOR. There is no doubt in my mind Kobe's 81 trumps Wilt's 100 easily. Anyone who say's "Reggie who" when talking about college sports is about clueless as it gets anyways
UPDATE 2-Texas Instruments profit up, revenue disappoints
Mon Jan 23, 2006 06:02 PM ET
(Adds CFO comment, recasts)
NEW YORK, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Texas Instruments Inc. (TXN.N: Quote, Profile, Research) , the world's top supplier of microchips for mobile phones, said on Monday its quarterly profit rose nearly 34 percent but revenue was at the low end of its target range due to production constraints, and its shares fell 3 percent.
The company's fourth quarter profit rose to $655 million, or 40 cents a share, from $490 million, or 28 cents a share in the year-ago quarter. Revenue rose to $3.59 billion from $3.15 billion.
The company had said in December that it expected fourth-quarter earnings of 38 cents to 40 cents a share on revenue of $3.56 billion to $3.71 billion.
Texas Instruments shares fell 3 percent to $30.76 on Inet from a close of $31.70 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Chief Financial Officer Kevin March said fourth-quarter revenue was held back because the company was unable to meet some customer requests in time as it was waiting for the delivery of certain assembly and test equipment it needed for chip manufacturing.
"Our inventory levels are still below where they need to be." March said. "We hope to get them near where they need to be by the end of the first quarter but that will be a function of demand," March said in a telephone interview.
Texas Instruments said it expects first-quarter earnings from continuing operations of 29 cents to 33 cents per share.
Excluding 3 cents earnings per share for its sensors and controls business, which it is selling, and including 4 cents of stock option expenses, the guidance is roughly in-line with average analyst estimates of 38 cents a share.
The company expects first quarter revenue from continuing operations of $3.11 billion to $3.38 billion.
But Stifel Nicolaus analyst Cody Acree said that while he believed fourth quarter revenue was a little light he was pleased with the first quarter guidance.
"I think demand was good but TI was capacity constrained in the fourth quarter. The first quarter demand looks to be better than normal seasonal trends," Acree said.
The company also said its board had authorized an additional $5 billion in stock repurchases.
Texas Instruments' price to earnings ratio is 22.61 compared with an average of about 20 for the Dow Jones Semiconductor Index .
<.If Kobe shoots 40-50 times a game, he should be able to score 40 points a game, especially with the three point rule now. >
He scored 81 points moron- on 46 shots. Yes, Wilt should be unstoppable because they were mostly small white men who played him. Hell, the only one who nearly played him to a draw was Russell -a black man.
Go break your hips old man Burk
Video footage jackass, but I guess I was mistaken. I see the boxscore
Wilt's record is not even documented. There is no proof he even scored 100, though I don't doubt it. Kobe's 81 trumps alleged Wilt's 100pt game by a mile. It take's 10x more skill for a swingman to shoot 18ft against another swingman than a 7'1 Center shooting 3ft away against a 6'8 white guy who could barely jump. Wilt had no competetition, unlike the big guys of the modern era. There was no 3 second rule in the NBA at the time, hell they made the rule because of him. For a swingman , 81pts is so much more impressive.
Yea,unfortunately they are going to get slaughtered by Pitt.
I would bet the house on Pitt -3 over Seattle
Hey, it's for protection only. Only a lowlife would think of dog fighting , it is illegal and disgusting. Of course, an even more sick and twisted person would put the life of an out of control dog over a child or an adult human being. If that were me being attacked, my dog would stop him rather easily. Bandogges are a great breed for protection and only attack, if their owner is attacked. There is nothing to stop that dog(the dog that attacked you) from attacking children.
<I doubt that pit bull would easily win that fight. Wolves are a animal of the wild that has a long history of survival of the fittest. Only the best genes for survival have been passed down through centuries. Unfortunately, that is not the same for humans.>
Wolves are not a human made breed, pit bulls are. That is why their genetics are superior. They are bred killers and are probably the best fighters in the animal kingdom. Hell,
wolves lose their kills regularly to little wolverines. They are as weak as they come in the animal kingdom and several breeds of dogs stop wolves in their tracks for protection of livestock.
Any game-bred 50-80 lb Pit Bull will kill the 160 lb hybrid wolf in 15 minutes flat, no kidding. That is cheaper and more effective than a lawyer :). I might add a bandogge would take care of the wolf breed too , and they are a lot smarter than pit bulls.
Vince Young "Michael Vick" like?? He is much closer to Daunte than Vick. Vick has a stronger arm and is much more explosive than Young. Young is probably the better passer of the two. In the NFL , a QB will play from the shotgun on every play or he will get killed. Brady did not have a side arm delivery.
Bush = Faulk
White= Eddie George
I'll leave it to you to decide if Faulk is better than George..lol
Vince has bad mechanics and will get a lot of passes knocked down in the NFL. However, he is still a 3x better prospect than weak armed Matt Leinart. He is horrible and should not be taken until the 4th round of the NFL draft. The USC coaching staff does a terrific job making the most of Leinart's strengths and disguising his weaknesses. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 ft pole. Also, let's not get our panties wet over Vince Young, Bush is still the best player in the country and no doubt the #1 pick in the draft.Reggie will be the better pro IMO.
OT - Roger Clemens is the best of the modern era and no one is close. He has to be on roids

Cisco Girds to Handle Surge in Web Video.
By MARK BOSLET
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
December 8, 2005
Cisco Systems Inc. made its name supplying the gear that controls the movement of data over the Internet. Now that online video appears poised to boost Internet growth, Cisco is moving to supply gear that moves video off the Internet and into the home.
Two recent acquisitions are the clearest sign yet that the company, which has $24.8 billion in annual revenue, sees bandwidth-hungry video as a significant future market. In the next decade, video will sharply increase the load on the routers and switches that handle Internet traffic, says John Chambers, Cisco's chief executive officer.
The role of video in Cisco's future took center stage at a meeting this week with Wall Street investors as the company, which is based in San Jose, Calif., plugged its proposed acquisition of television set-top box maker Scientific-Atlanta Inc. and the recent purchase of a small consumer-electronics maker. The deals also underscored Cisco's rising interest in the consumer marketplace, as gains in its flagship switching market slow.
Mr. Chambers predicts the demands of video will transform the Internet over the next decade. Network traffic should increase fourfold to sixfold annually, instead of the 100%-a-year gains now seen in the U.S. and Europe, he says. Beyond the heavy traffic is the technical challenge of moving video, Mr. Chambers says. "Making [video] work is really, really, really difficult."
Scientific-Atlanta's products help Cisco expand its offerings by bringing it closer to the consumer market for movies and other videos. The set-top box becomes a valuable piece of real estate as video becomes more widespread, Mr. Chambers says. And it brings technology that Cisco is lacking. The company announced its bid last month and hopes to close the deal, valued at about $6.9 billion, early next year.
Mr. Chambers also contends that the acquisition brings Cisco new opportunities abroad, where Scientific-Atlanta has less presence. Only 30% of spending on Internet-based television broadcasting gear takes place in the U.S., he says.
Cisco's recent $61 million purchase of Kiss Technology AS, a Danish consumer-electronics company, was in anticipation of a push into video like the one with Scientific-Atlanta. Kiss "may have been one of the most aggressive moves we made," says Mr. Chambers.
Kiss makes an Internet-connected device for the European market that can play DVDs on television sets, play Internet radio and download weather reports, stock quotes, and other video. Cisco says it is preparing to roll out new products for the European market from the acquisition. They include a new DVD player with an internal hard-disk drive for storing video downloaded from the Web.
Next year, Kiss expects to enter the North American market with Internet-based products that play movies and television.
"This will be a new expansion of our approach to networked entertainment," says Chris Stevens, a vice president at Cisco's Linksys home-networking division. Cisco is creating a Networked Entertainment Business unit around Kiss that will be formally announced next month along with the new Kiss products for European customers.
Cisco says it expects to sell Kiss products through service providers -- such as the cable companies doing business with Scientific-Atlanta -- as well as in retail stores, where its Linksys PC-networking unit commands shelf space.
Only 12% of digital cable set-top boxes have hard drives capable of recording programming, says market-research firm Forrester Research. By 2009, the number should be 50%.
Cisco hasn't yet detailed plans for Scientific-Atlanta and Kiss to jointly develop technology. Aaron Raker, an analyst at A.G. Edwards & Sons, doesn't expect significant integration between Scientific-Atlanta and any Linksys products in the next 12 months. Cisco isn't likely to risk disrupting the Scientific-Atlanta business, he says.
Speaking of small pharma and the continuing trend of big pharma getting slaughtered by them, I like DPII here. Yet another stock trading near (in this case below) cash value...oh my (in the words of someone who used to post here). Long DPII today
They are trading just above 1.3 x cash value. Their better balance sheet is better than almost all the network infrastructure stocks outside CSCO IMO. A billion in cash and no debt, look for these guys to be on the prowl
OT Well AJ , the Pistons have started off great. They seem to be playing mad ,which is a good omen. Detroit is tops in point differential (offense-defense) in the league, another great sign. I think they have an excellent chance of winning the division and probably home court throughout the playoffs. However, I'm still not convinced a Flip Saunders team can go all the way, so I will stick to my guns. It's really too early and things can change in a hurry. I still like Indiana and Miami in the East and whoever comes out will probably win it all. The East is the beast.I doubt SA will repeat.
Lucent Could See 'Significant' 2007 Revs From IMS
Ed Lin, 11.08.05, 11:10 AM ET
UBS Investment Research analyst Nikos Theodosopoulos maintained a "neutral" rating on Lucent Technologies (nyse: LU - news - people ) and a $3.10 price target.
Theodosopoulos noted in a research report that Lucent "has momentum" in IMS-based (IP multimedia subsystem) solutions, but it likely won't be a factor until 2007.
Tuesday morning, Lucent said it won a contract to provide BellSouth (nyse: BLS - news - people ) with an IMS-based solution for a voice over IP service for residential customers in its nine-state territory.
"With this win, Lucent has now won IMS contracts with Cingular Wireless, SBC Communications (nyse: SBC - news - people ), and BellSouth, and is gaining momentum in the IMS market after not being involved in any of the initial VoIP rollouts by RBOCs," Theodosopoulos said. Cingular is a joint venture of SBC and BellSouth.
"We next look to China Mobile (nyse: CHL - news - people ) for an IMS decision with Lucent and Ericsson (nasdaq: ERICY - news - people ) as the main contenders," he said. "While the Street expects a Verizon Wireless IMS decision by year-end, we think Verizon is not likely to decide on IMS until mid-2006." The analyst thinks the joint ownership of Verizon Wireless by Verizon Communications (nyse: VZ - news - people ) and Vodafone (nyse: VOD - news - people ) "will likely delay an IMS decision," although Lucent will be "the favorite" when the Verizon Wireless request for proposals is issued.
Initial revenue from Lucent's latest IMS wins will likely be in the range of $50 million to $75 million, or less than $10 per telecom subscriber. "Revenue surrounding new services via application/feature servers would be incremental to this initial revenue and will be based on penetration of IMS services. Thus, we view the IMS revenue opportunity to be minimal in 2006 and we believe [there] could be significant [revenue] in 2007 and beyond as adoption ramps," Theodosopoulos.

This should be a boon for SONS , probably the IMS leader, and other telecom infrastructure stocks.I'm not a fan of SONS valuation, but it looks like they will support multi-billion dollar valuation. Looks like telecom has bottomed around here
OT , Doesn't change the fact that Detroit was lucky. Lightning doesn't stike 3 times at the same place. They had their window and now it's over. Talent wins in the NBA. Duncan,Jordan,Bird,Magic, and on and on and on. Duncan is also on the decline so I will take a side bet with anyone who thinks SA will win the title.
Manu is interesting at 1.78. Though their balance sheet is crap, they should weather the storm. Nice insider buying from 1.40-1.50.
Might have to take a bite
OT What u and most Detroit fans don't understand is they
were a O'neal injury in the 2004 playoffs and a Wade injury away from completely being out of the finals for those respective years! THEY GOT LUCKY ! 99.9% of the NBA doesn't know that Big Ben Wallace is on the decline. BTW, has Flip Saunders ever won a big game? The Pistons defense will decline this year and it won't matter cuz Indiana has 1.5x the talent Detroit does. As long as Indiana is healthy ,there is no way they Detroit can win.
OT Please , the Pistons won't even win their divsion, Indiana
has it all but locked up. Detroit = 3rd seed at best, I think the the divison winners have prority in the the seed rankings(not sure so Detroit might be a 4th seed LOL)
Regular season top teams
1. Miami = look at their crappy divsion . They already have home court advantage against everyone in the east.
2. Indiana , I think the best team in the NBA by playoffs time
3. SA
4. Houston - depending on TMAc's health. Ming= career year
5. Detroit - ON THE DECLINE, Everyone in Detroit is on these guy's jocks. They are a bunch of overachieving players. Many of them were journeyman. I will make so much money against Detroit in the playoffs.
6. Denver
Clueless people also think Greenspan was smart to raise rates in 2000 when the market was already in the midst of huge correction. He waited till Jan 01 to ease. It's all about liquidity and momemtum , that is the game . Wow wee..I can see what a bright guy that Greenspan is :)
Ayn Rand(a Greenspan favorite) isn't even being taught in schools
Sure , just make sure you get out if/when it hits a 15-20B market cap - prolly should have sales of around 1.5 B-2B. However, I think I'll take my chances with cheaper networkers like AVNX or FNSR if I was investing in this sector, even though both are priced for bankruptcy.
Greenspan is a failed economist..couldn't get a job in private industry so he got a job in the government. He created a bubble in
the networkers pre-2000 and which led to new NAS highs. Then he busted it wide open and created another bubble in real estate. Now, the idiot has created yet another bubble in the bios ,which will lead the NAS to new recovery highs later in the decade. Quite possibly, he is one of stupidest people on the planet and will go down as such.
<when it hits 100 fortunes will be made by the pioneers>
Forget about Sons, the real money wil be made in the biotechs and the new material developers. Since there is no insider buying in SONS at all, that is the telling sign. I like my chances with GLGC,SDIX,BRKR,vicl, xgen, and Pcop. All these companies have excellent prospects, insider buying, and decent balance sheets.
Buying SDIX and BRKR today
Bot GLGC in the lower 3's
Will buy XGEN eventually

FNSR:
Total revenues in the third quarter of fiscal 2005 were $73.1 million, up 3% on a sequential basis from $71.0 million in the second quarter and 58% from $46.4 million in the third quarter of the prior year. For the second consecutive quarter, the Company's revenues set a new all time record. Total revenues from the sale of optical subsystems were $63.4 million in the third quarter, up 6% on a sequential basis from $59.9 million in the second quarter and 56% from $40.7 million in the third quarter of the prior year. Sales of network test and monitoring systems were $9.7 million in the third quarter, down 13% on a sequential basis from $11.1 million in the second quarter but up 70% from $5.7 million in the third quarter of the prior year.
"While the third quarter marks another revenue record for the Company, even more important was realizing our stated objective of exceeding our EBITDA breakeven point," said Jerry Rawls, Finisar's President and CEO. "Obviously, that's only an interim objective as we strive to return to profitability. We believe the recent acquisition of Infineon's transceiver product lines and their transfer to our manufacturing operations in Malaysia will be an important step in making that happen."
"Our cash burn for the quarter was another positive aspect of this quarter's performance," added Rawls. "Our cash balance at the end of January totaled $101.6 million, down only $2.6 million from $104.2 million at the end of October. This is before adding another $12 million to our cash reserves just after the end of the quarter from the sale-leaseback of one of our facilities in Sunnyvale, California."
OPERATING RESULTS
The Company reported a net loss of $33.0 million, or $0.15 per share, for the third quarter of fiscal 2005, compared to a net loss of $21.2 million, or $0.09 per share, in the second quarter and a net loss of $15.5 million, or $0.07 per share, in the third quarter of fiscal 2004. The current quarter results included a write-down of $18.8 million associated with the impairment in value of our Sunnyvale facility that was sold and leased back subsequent to the end of the quarter. The sale-leaseback transaction will be treated as a financing in accordance with Financial Accounting Standards Board Statement No. 98, "Accounting for Leases." The Company's gross profit for the third quarter was $16.7 million, or 22.8% of total revenues, compared to 16.6% in the second quarter and 19.4% in the third quarter of fiscal 2004. Note that the Company does not intend to recognize any further tax benefits until it returns to profitability.
The Company's operating results include a number of non-cash and cash charges, principally related to acquisitions, restructurings and financing transactions. A table is included which summarizes these items. Excluding these items, the Company's net loss for the third quarter of fiscal 2005 would have been $7.9 million, or $.04 per share, compared to $9.2 million, or $.04 per share, in the second quarter and $13.1 million, or $.06 per share, in the third quarter of the prior year, and the Company's gross margins would have been $21.9 million, or 29.8% of revenues in the third quarter, compared to 30.7% in the second quarter and 22.1% in the third quarter of the prior year.
<CSCO days of glory are over and it will probably never again see its highs> It's 52 week high is only 25 BTW.
Well never say never. I though Adaptive broadband would never hit 200 either and it did in 2000. How many of their stockholders think they would go out of business when it hit those highs? I wonder how many of Commerce One stockholder's thought the stock would be a penny stock back then ? Probably none is my guess. I didn't think HLIT would go to 150 either. This is the nature of all bull markets , they are controlled almost purely by human emotion without regard to fundamentals
