Options can be dangerous for the novice. My suggestion, if you want to try them, is to pick stocks with major upside potential and buy very long term options. Also, don't put too much of your money into them.
Good luck.
No. It means I bought the option to purchase 900 shares of EGHT at $17.50 until Jan of 2022.
Suppose on Jan 2022, EGHT is trading at $100 a share. I can still buy 900 shares of it for $17.50. In that case my profit would be $82.50 per share (and I would be very happy).
The good thing about options is that you can control a lot more shares than if you were to just buy the stock. For instance, EGHT was trading at about $21 a share when I bought my options, but I only had to pay about $6 a share. With more shares, there is the possibility of more profit.
The bad thing about options is that if they reach their expiration date and the stock is below its exercise price, you will lose all your investment.
You don't have to wait until the exercise date to turn in an option. You can always sell them anytime you want until, the exercise date, for whatever their worth is at the time.
Up 10 straight weeks on the weekly chart. Interesting.
Hello, if anybody's here.
I just had EGHT brought to my attention, by, of all things, a YouTube video. I researched it and these are a few of the interesting things I found:
1. A steady uptrend in share price from late Oct to today, with a move from $15.95 to $20 today; an increase of about 20% in a little over 2 months.
2. 106.3 million shares outstanding with 91% held by institutions.
3. 18.7% short interest.
Normally, I would balk at purchasing a stock that is 91% held by institutions because I would figure there wouldn't be additional upward pressure by institutions due to they already own almost all the shares. The 18.7% short interest, though, makes me salivate at the possibility of short holders needing to cover their 19.9 million share position by purchasing from the non-institutional pool of 9.6 millions shares, if something should happen to cause a rapid spike in price.
That being said, I am announcing my new position of 9 options of EGHT $17.50 Jan/2020 calls in this stock.
Good luck to all longs!
What does 'leeper' mean? Is it a misspelling?
History. Plug Power was founded in 1997 as a joint venture between DTE Energy and Mechanical Technology Inc. The company went public in 2002. Indoor forklifts were their first viable market with customers such as Nike, BMW, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Mercedes-Benz, Kroger, and Whole Foods.
What is the FTR?
18 years? Thanks XenaLives.
One thing to keep in mind is the long weekend. Traders don't like uncertainty, and four days of news with little ability to trade in response is uncertainty.
I've learned that each stock has its own indicators that work for it. What works for one doesn't work for others. Once you identify which ones mark the highs and lows of recent moves, for a particular stock, that is when you can confidently trade for profit.

One thing is for sure: Nothing is for sure.
We have to let things play out like (I believe) they were planned.
A interesting side note to today's action, is that PLUG was the laggard among BE, BLDP, FCEL, and NKLA. I think this may be an indicator of sorts.
So what you're saying, boiled down to its essence, is that when FCEL has a down day, however long it takes to happen, you will be right in calling for a sell off...because it was 'overbought'.
I know, but I was asked how quickly hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are able to refuel. I don't believe I would have found that information on a FCEL page.
Very fast. This is from a PLUG page: ...fueling is completed quickly so your vehicle can get immediately back to service – much like fueling an on-road vehicle today.
https://www.plugpower.com/fuel-cell-power/progen/
Battery charging takes hours, I believe.
Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles can be recharged and are much faster to do so than battery electric vehicles.
Why do you state so confidently that the overbought condition caused a $2.50 drop in PLUG's stock price?
Don't you think the fact they announced a $750 million stock offering after market close the previous day might have had something to do with it?
This sounds like you're analyzing Monday's action. I haven't learned future chart analysis yet, but hope to someday.
<<< #2 shows that no follow through after the 6 days run up and big spike happened. <<<
#2 seems inaccurate. My chart shows 6 up days in a row.
Still looks bullish to me.
No pullback after the meteoric rise suggests to me that this is set to move higher.
Somebody suggested that the big buyers are expecting big news. I tend to agree.
Have a good weekend everyone.
Lol. I'm happy if I can keep it down to 3 times a day.
You were wrong one other time also: When you said yesterday's volume was 150 million. It was closer to 230 million.
Nice, XenaLives. Thanks. You have sucessfully changed my long held, and heretofore unquestioned, belief that DMA means daily moving average.
I must still be living...because I'm still learning.
When speaking to moving averages, it is important to always note the time span of the plots. In fact, DMA means 'daily moving average'.
Also, the shorter the time-spans, the less reliable they are in predicting longer term moves. Minute charts aren't going to predict daily downturns.
Why not give us a screen shot of the 20 day and 60 minute chart and explain what you see, what you predict, and why?
Wrong!
The 50 DMA is at about $2.50 and the 200 DMA is about $2.30.
I'm sure you're wrong on those other two also, but I'll leave it to you to double check.

When it was down at about $4, I wrote some Nov calls at $7 for 10 cents figuring I'd get some easy pocket change.
Now I'm worrying I'll get assigned at $7 and lose my shares. I just hope it can hold off until next week before it gets there. Lol!
I was just giving the math, Big Daddy, not predicting; but $27 will do me fine.
We need to slow down a bit anyways. Lol!
Understanding history helps us understand the present.
On 8/11, PLUG announced a $300 million public offering with the stock closing at $11.31. The closing price of the offering was $10.25; an 8% discount over the announcement price. The stock price dipped to $10.11 the day after the announcement, or about a 10% drop.
Six trading days after the announcement, the stock closed at $13.65 or 20% higher than it did the day the public offering was announced.
If we were to follow the same pattern: The offering price should be about $23 and, in six trading days, the stock would close at $30.
I could live with that.
Good morning Hoghead7. I'm a new shareholder still trying to bring myself up to speed with FCEL.
You keep referring to a pending news release re Groton. I take it we are hoping to hear the project is successfully completed. Is there anything else regarding Groton we are hoping to hear?
Do you believe just the announcement of a successful completion will significantly move the share price? Have announcements of previously completed installations moved the price much in the past?
Thank you.
Here is a link to the chart with the volume pattern you describe. I agree that it is interesting and perhaps a signal of a change in fortune for this stock.

I also sold some PLUG, due to it might be getting ahead of itself, and bought 4000 FCEL. So far so good.

Check and check. Everybody gets there someday.
You can take out money earlier, but there will be taxes, and possibly penalties, to pay.
Do you have a Roth IRA? From what I understand, there are never any taxes to pay on gains in a Roth IRA.
I think etrade includes PLUG in the 'Alternative Energy' sector.
I would correct your post to, "the price will dip to the 50 DMA and bounce right back."
