I've updated the site with the picks, and the market risk, but will post the finished group strength table later this evening.

Neither potential breakouts, nor any new short term stocks screened out for tomorrow. The are a number of potential shorts to look at: AVCT, BLDP, BRKS, CEPH, DAL, GENZ, PRE, REGN, RX, VRTX.

Commentary that started this week was summary of closing comments on those weeks editor's notes......
August 19 It seemed we may have turned the corner a couple weeks ago, granted, it was a sharp corner. And now maybe it is safe to enter the water once again, after having regulators coming down harder on the sharks.
Looking at the changing "themes" we've seen over the last few weeks the "corner" is described:
July 22: The Screened Stock Ratio still favors market selling.
July 29: The Screened Stock Ratio still favors market selling but looks more and more like a bottoming process. I suspect most will test the low and that point will be good to watch for a buy point.
August 5: The Screened Stock Ratio still favors market selling but still looks like a bottoming process. Watch for stocks to test support this week.
August 12: The Screened Stock Ratio may go positive this week if individual issues hold up well during any backing and filling, we may have seen the bottom for a while. This looks like another week of opportunity.
So here on August 19 we see a lot of stocks having double digit percentage gains off their lows, and now look a little extended and could use a little selling. But, with the SSRatio having turned positive last Thursday, I think we are situated to have an extended rally. Just pick your stocks and positions well.
Sam
Have a good evening and weekend, I'll be checking in.
Sam
I'm carrying a full deck into the weekend, added APOL at 40.11, I'd been looking for support at 40...so we'll see.
Sam
HDWR the short term trade has been going in and out of the buy range today. Looks like a buy today from 13 to 13.10.
Guess I should have said sub .40, I bought in at .31 myself.
HLYW a buy here in the 14.30 to 14.35 range it is at. The stop would remain the same. That looks to be about it right now. NUS is the closest to alerting a breakout.
Sam
The number of potential breakouts that screened out for Friday declined to seven: AM, BUD, HET, NUS, NWL, VAR and XTO. And, one short term trade that replaces CBK which rose to high off its support on Thursday.

Again, lots to pick from today...I entered ACXM at 17.65, still holding DHI, FNF and SIE. Need to run errands. I'll check back later.
Sam
I see a few people got hurt holding stocks through earnings released last night. Sometimes it works out, but it is a gamble, even if the earnings are super, the stock might sell off at the open. Rather than risk a good gain on the chance that it might pop it is best not to hold at all.....but, if you do get an opening pop the best thing you can do is sell into it.
Sam
Otherwise....CBK ran from the open, a logical location to look for a buy would have been breaking yesterday's high. IMN alerted the breakout and ran off. HHS alerted and ran up, now a good place to look for a position is close to 21. On PDS, I'd wait for 33.80 or so.
Sam
DLX finding support in the 46.65 area
Lots of potential breakouts to watch tomorrow, ACXM, CARS, DL, DLX, GCI, GGC, HHS, HIB, HSIC, IMN, MDP, MIK, OATS, PDS, UDR, VTR and WOR. And, one additional short term trade, Christopher and Banks with its new symbol, CBK.

The two oil related issues on the list alerted today, PDS and SU, I bought FNF and DHI. Was close to hitting HLWY at its low today, but no go.
Sam
FNF is the only one so far today, having missed the buy at the alert price, about 31.47, I'm just watching to see if it tests it now.
Sam
There are eight potential breakouts to watch tomorrow, CARS, DL, FNF, HIB, LIZ, PDS, SU and VRTY. No additional short term stocks screened out.

We had a very busy day....totally unrelated to market activities...I saw the only breakout was MCO.
There are nine potential breakouts to watch tomorrow: BBI, BSC, COCO, CTB, DCTM, FB, HET, MCO and RF. Though there were not any additional short term trades on the scan, I left the table up with yesterday's two since they may trade back to the buy range.

You could through a dart and hit a winning stock today. JCOM was one of my personal targets but it alerted with about 5 different stocks and then when it tested 22 again I was out having tires rotated.....so it goes.
Sam
Several more alerted, some breakouts from Friday too.
JCOM, CYN, CTB and MGG....and just now GPT.
Sam
Alerts this morning included LEA and KKD...and both short term stocks DHI and HLWY.
Strong stocks out of the personal care group: DL, WTW and CHTT.
Strong stocks out of the internet group include: OVER, UNTD and JCOM.
The group strength table is posted at:

Sam
Finally a couple short term stocks screened out, the savvy-trader.com page is updated for Monday.
Sam
These ended up do well, I didn't get one of them.....back to the drawing board....
Have a good weekend, I'll be here....
Sam
Alerting this morning...while I was out...ACDO, HRB and HYSL
Nothing alerted yet, could have played a couple bounces on the open .... but didn't do that today either. Another potential breakout is JCOM...this is a low float but still worth a look. Low float stocks are more volatile making exiting in a hurry very hard without getting scalped yourself.
Sam
Remember, let these stocks break yesterday's high by about 20 cents before you consider them as a play.
Sam
The short term stock screening has a requirement that an up trending stock be two times the distance from its close to it "local" high, than from the bottom its "local" range to its close. It appears there are no stocks that meet this, nor all the rest of the strict criteria, yet. However, there are fifteen potential breakouts to watch today, ACDO, BJS, CBSS, CTB, ECL, ESV, FTI, HRB, HYSL, ITT, LEA, LII, MGG, RPM and VAR. A few of this are oil related and should get special attention.
Should be fun....

Education Services stocks were really strong today. We have APOL on our weekly watchlist, at another new 52 week high today. We also followed COCO and CECO today...
I'm hoping to see APOL test 40 again.
Sam
I just sold some XRAY that I have had for a few days, and bought CBH at the alert price (20 cents above yesterday's high..bought on a dip) and just went ahead and sold it. I'm still holding a little XRAY and SIE. Not very much since I think we have changed to an up trend.
Sam
CBH is the only breakout alert yet this morning.
Bernard,
There are different sources that do group rankings, the main difference is the classification of the group, for example in one system TOL might fall under a group called general construction, and in another system be under home builders, or a medical company might fall under a biotechnology group or under drug manufacturing/distribution. Investors Business Daily seems to keep the best data, but there is some of those where an odd stock shows up that I'd think fits a different group.
CBS Market watch keeps group data, that is free access, though some of their groups seem a bit off the wall and they do give the strong groups but over a short time period without a ranking as far as I know. Other than us, there is probably several free sources of data.
Sam
After 51 consecutive days in the negative the Screened Stock Ratio has finally turned positive at +0.47 favoring buying, the estimate of market risk drops to low.
Despite the positive turn in the SSRatio, there still is not one short term stock on the screening. There are three potential breakouts to watch today, CBH, PX and SXT.
We might not up today, but we are in an up trend.
Sam
They are building a new bridge here and must have hit the lines as we lost power and phones for the last hour of the market. Looks like it was fun too....
Sam
MYL is a stock we track on our weekly list. I think it is a good way to participate in any moves in biotechs, but invest in a company that has good fundamentals. Today it looks like it is getting support at 32.50 to 32.60 and could be good right now with a stop at 32.10.
Sam
CMOS short 11.90 to 12.10 stop 12.26
Well that date didn't last long. I'll wait and take a look at the other shorts a little later.
