OT - Optimistic? I just prevailed in a pro se IRS tax case.... THAT, not my waiting for Wave to bear fruit, required optimism throughout the last year.

read the past posts on the subject -- secure billing, micro-transactional capability, the use of the flexible purchase models which are enabled by the ability to do secure user and platform authentication, secure super-distribution, built-in availability to do interactive video, which generates opportunities to create new, heretofore uncommercialized interactive digital content applications and consumption models, such as secure interactive targeted video--based advertising, yada, yada, yada.
Until we have revenues, we have ZERO shareholder value..., so how can we lose any? You are critiquing hens that have yet to lay eggs, and eggs that are yet to hatch. It's premature to start culling the flock, because of a lack of productivity to date. WaveXpress has unique advantages that will eclipse all of the currently deployed, and competing, services that you mention as having capitalized on the content delivery space. These unique advantages of WaveXpress/TVTonic will only come to the forefront when TPM-equipped, Vista-ready PCs enter the market, a time which is rapidly approaching, and which can now be tangibly measured in months, not years. The past is water over the bridge... get over it!
A great CC question would be to ask, "What kind of deals, if any, has WaveXpress been negotiating, anticipating the looming availability of Vista Ultimate, and hardware capable of running it?".

every equation has two sides... where is your estimation of the upside to the 'do we keep W'Xpress' equation? what is the discounted time value of your estimate of that opportunity? We all know what the historical and current 'burn' is, but no consideration is given by you to the fact that the future opportunity might erase and nullify the already sunk investment, possibly very soon.
you're predicting based on a supply-push, not a demand-pull sales environment, regarding digital content. the market WANTS the currently locked-up digital content, and will buy the devices, appliances, and appurtances that will make it conveniently available. That's the lesson of the iPod and iTunes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's pretty impassioned, but here's my counter argument. you dismiss the technological advantages that WaveXpress' 'platform' will offer to enterprise subscribers and/or internal distributers of secure multi-media content, for EXAMPLE, an in-house sales training course for a product roll-out, that has to be disseminated to a world-wide cadre of corporate sales personnel. It ain't all about capturing the market dominated by teeny-boppers downloading hot music videos. I know this is an emotional bone of contention with many fellow longs, but don't let emotion cloud factual avenues of future remunerative opportunity. jmo, as usual....
Or perhaps W'Xpress should move into a federal FEMA trailer in New Orleans (sunny Slidell) and the bureaucrats will fill out the applications, and supply a surplus GSA welcome mat.

This is interesting, but in your hunch, you are 'barking up the wrong tree'. This solicitation will have nothing to directly or even possibly remotely to benefit Wave. It speaks to developing a 'software protection device'..., (that is) NOT a commercial CPU (or words to that effect), and suggests that a TPM might be an example of such device, or some other form of commercial co-processor, SUCH AS an audio or video processor. In layman's terms, this means that they would like to try constructing their 'software protection device' by using a commercially available co-processor like a) a TPM, or b) a graphics or audio processor, as the device's computational brains. Relax, this has nothing directly meaningful to do with our slog/death march, contract watch, or whatever.
this news was posted on one of the boards, recently. I remember it, because my first thought was this was a Dell offering clearly designed to sell more of its servers, as it is a server-based, or server-centered offering.

This article simply highlights the fact that Microsoft is still suffering the same problem: Its corporate culture (subvert the competition and extract tribute) does not foster innovation, but tries to follow and co-opt it (much like our politicians ).

where there's pain, there's usually opportunity too! Wave and TCG TC can simplify things, IMO. As TCG standards and awareness proliferate, IT pros will realize that they can avoid the M'Soft OS bloat and mounting complexity problems with various TCG TC solutions and architectures. IMO Wave's jump into the breach with its 'NAC' product is a salient example of the kind of solution that will impede M'Soft's attempt to maintain control of the security space by its Vista security tweaks and 'features'.

My opinion, FWIW -- point one: Cisco sells hardware (routers and switches, mostly) and as a business, they are organized around doing that. posing a threat to Wave would require adaptations in their business strategy and organization of monumental proportions. they could certainly do that, theoretically, but it would be like a battleship changing course just to try to crush a PT boat. point two: The same does not exactly apply to Softie, because its business is sftware, and it has the strategic hubris to try to crush anything in its purview, but i continue to insist that Softie does not have the legal freedom and 'political' capital to do as it wishes, and swallow up any competitor or potential competitor that it wants. The U.S. Justice Department, and the E.U. pro-competition regulators have Softie in a velvet cage these days, and Softie's behavior has been very noticeably deferential to their wishes. Personally, I'm watchful of Cisco and Softie, but I don't lose any sleep over them as a threat to Wave, in the relevant near term future.
BTW, what, in your opinion, is investing all about? I don't want to be doing the wrong thing.
thanks for explaining to me what is needed to have for the proper perspective on investing. and i didn't say anyone did not have a 'right to whine' -- that goes without saying, it happens here, all day, every day, so clearly people must have a right to do it. likewise, i have a right to comment on it. in America, rights abound everywhere.
In all due respect (maybe), I was refering to the attention of the participants in the movie and TV industries, not to the attention on which the whining wavoid community is focused.
i think the answer is simple. all of the attention today is directed at the question of how do you monetize iTV by selling advertising. our leaders (listen to them ) understand that the real gold mine will open up a. when trusted computing platforms are the norm in consumers' hands, and b. the TPM can be routinely employed for secure user authentication/authorization, and secure, flexible, granular content purchase (remember the Wave Embassy E2100 business model), and to perform microtransactions???). That time is not yet here, but it is rapidly approaching. Patience=Pro$perity!
