The shackles have been removed. This will be wonderful!
I think you are right that would normaly be the case, however this stop has come right before the LIFT Cannabis expo this weekend. What better venue for a big announcement in the insustry? Lots of bay st types have suddenly shown an intrest in what used to be fringe gatherings.
To get an accurate reading for this stock you need to compare it to its real history. The ups and downs on the venture were just as crazy and they were caused by the same players. Trying to read a trend from a chart that only includes the time on the tsx and not the time on the venture is going to give you a skewed prediction. It has done this kind of wonk many times before and has always crept to new highs.
My investment has not lost anything. It has tripled since I bought it and I will buy more as soon as I am able. I see this dip as manipulation by the big investors nothing more. The guys who ran it up and then skimmed the top. This stock has legs if any pot company in the legal realm does. You have a grow license, why not be a craft grower for canopy? Your excellent strains will be appreciated by a wide audience.
None of the fundamentals have changed. The licensed producers are being supported up by the federal government and will continue to be in the near term. Half of your comments lament the lack of inventory, the other half, lament the excess of inventory. When the legislation goes through, mail order will be permitted through the already operating LP system. How with these positive points in play are you so concerned that this is a poor investment? They have more licenses than any other company, they are active over seas, they have even made accommodations for new license holders via the river. They own acres of land available for outdoor grow, they have the largest greenhouse in operation and the largest indoor growing platform of any company presently in the industry.
Good perspective, Thank you!
That is why I appreciate your input :) You have a truth agenda. In addition to the all pervasive cash agenda. Your perspectives help all of us who are investing in canopy. Even your tangents are enlightening and your research goes deep.
You guys have to make up your minds.....either canopy doesn't have enough time or grow space licensed to meet the coming rec demand and service the medicinal requirements, or bringing on new "streams" (which btw will solve the previously mentioned problem) is just handing over all of canopy's business to it's competitors.....it can not be both.
Aaaand this is the worst thing that happens with extremely heavy use? I would be very interested in hearing the actual numbers of episodes they have encountered. If it has doubled from one case to two, it is much less news worthy than if it is in the thousands. Real data matters, anything less is just more sensationalizing by the anti weed sector. Kinda like the news reports that said the incidents of weed impaired driving doubled, from 1.5% to 3% the other 97% is alcohol. Even if the numbers are higher, Your system needs a hot bath and time off for a reset? Nobody dies! That is really good news! 150 people die every year in north america from tylenol. Thank you for your insights your posts are always intellegent and informative
You and Peter Joseph, can make a killing in the markets and then use your riches to make the world a better place. He would be further in his plan if he had canopy in his portfolio.
It is interesting isn't it? No one will do what they have talent for and give it away to their fellow man. They will grub for the pittance a factory will throw to them and vote out the union so stuff is "cheap". The reason money rules the world is that we allow it. It is kind of a can't beat'em join'em scenario....... There was no altruism in the industry before the lp's that is why something that can be grown for pennies was selling for hundreds. Now at least taxes are collected on it.
Their competitors were every soda fountain in every drug store in north america. There were and are many many fizzy drinks for sale. The draw of coke is the branding and marketing. That is what Canopy has in spades. The world will not unsee Snoop in the Tweed t shirt, they will not unsee the 2015 cannabis cup sponsorship etcetera etcetera...
My ethics brought me here too. There are few places to put investment that is doesn't make the world worse! This an solar are my choices right now. Oil and weapons make money but wreak havoc. Canopy is making the world a better place, I have taken back control of my assets from the banks and mutual funds. It seems silly to protest pipelines when your cash is funding it.
Agreed on all points!
Cannabis is a commodity. That is why I like what Tweed is doing, everyone else is bragging they can grow the most hops tweed is branding to be Budweiser. The competition is here because folks make hundreds of dollars an ounce when they sell it now, when they get a couple of dollars an ounce there will be no incentive to sell at all it wont be worth the effort. The extractions, the infused products for both the medicinal and recreational are where there will be profit and Canopy is miles ahead on that front under the legal structure.
Oh :( I didn't mean to be sharp. It is still a fabulous move! It means 10,000 people will be walking billboards. There will be a pay off it just wont show up on this quarter's balance sheet.
Good thought if they were sold for $20 or $40. Those shirts sold on 4/20 were sold for $4.20....it will be an expense on the advertising budget. At best they were sold at cost but the 10,000 people walking around touting the brand are worth every penny!
Lol! Fair enough, excellent info in the article in any case.
Thank you for sharing all of this wonderful DD. The attitude of folks in this space is as amazing as the product we are investing in.
An interesting link from another page. Reguarding additional reasons for concern over un regulated growing. Kinda puts awesome's "just growing out own medicine safely and cleanly" argument in doubt

The saliva test not only doesn't work, it is not necessary. Accident rates are so small (like 3%) compared to alcohol......a non issue and a great waste of valuable police resources. Alcohol rates are 97% I understand that one crash is too many but it is like buying tazers instead of training officers to de escalate the situation. Good old fashioned balance and coordination will flag impairment better than a gadget. The task force report recognizes that impairment is not reflected by blood levels
No, it does't on several levels. Canopy is providing a product which unlike cupcakes, already has a huge following and the projection is that the additional demand for their product will be exponential. They have a ton of cash on hand to pay all the overhead and customer service reps they will need to meet that huge demand. That is the brilliance of the Goldman deal, and buying licenses with shares. There is a huge oak tree with golden acorns about to shower to the ground. The competition is proud it has paid for the hankie they have laid out under the tree. Canopy is renting tarps. Who is going to catch more golden acorns?
That is okay, medical patients who Canopy also serves still have the charter right to grow their own. It will be a non-issue since the majority of folks will not bother anyway. The tomato analogy comes in handy here, you might grow one or two tomatoes for sandwiches in the summer but most folks will just buy their spaghetti sauce and ketchup from the store. I have had many conversations with folks and asked them why they don't grow their own medicine. The answer is, it is expensive and time consuming and the stuff they can buy is better. How many smokers cure their own tobacco?
Hmmm..... private equity, means we have all the marbles and we want more.... not interested in sharing with fellow humans. I like public offerings like Canopy, we are all in it together and the little guy can have some of the crumbs left by the sharks :) happy minnow here.
Anybody but me find it odd that on google finance, when you look at Aphria, There is a list of "similar" stocks, Mettrum is listed with a blank row beside it and WEED is nowhere to be seen? It is no wonder Canopy is not getting the love it deserves :)
In this stock's case that is the only way to play it. Buy and hold and scrimp to buy more. Imagine where we would be if we sold when we "doubled our money" at $4? This is a phenomenon no one has seen in their lifetime. Folks did not know what google was so it does not compare. The market for weed is proven. It does 6 billion per year in sales to people willing to risk jail and penalties. The government's own expectation is that it will out sell liquor, wine and beer combined when it goes rec. It continues to amaze me how short sighted folks in this realm are. Bruce was asked late last year what he saw as challenges. He replied his only concern is that rec would come and they wouldn't have enough stock. This is the only share in this industry to own. I would not touch the pot funds with a 10 foot pole because rather than limiting your risk like they are supposed to, they expose you to much more in this case. In this nascent industry you do not want to own the wannabes. A close parallel would be the auto sector in its early days. Who wants to own one of the hundreds (85 just under the A's you can see all their names on wiki) of early car makers when you can buy and hold Ford right out of the gate? We will eventually merge with or purchase anybody who has good strains, tech etc. Sometimes it pays to be old and have paid attention to grandpa! jmho glta
I think we got a deal on mettrum because of the headache. It is not enough to have acres of greenhouses we must have licences mettrum brought several. If this new irtrees is very late stage it may be operational before rec. Canopy has a very limited pool of potential to purchase from it seems they are doing well, buying space licences and talent.
Hi awesome, We are here because of you and true compassion clubs. I have no doubt about that. You won the fight it is being legalized due to the work of advocates of the past. We are moving in to the next steps, it has been messy and I find it as offensive as you do that people who made a living jailing gardeners are now at the front of the line when the trough is filling. I am a realist. If every pot advocate quenched their resentment, took the money for 1/4lb and bought shares in this thing they helped build they would reap a reward. Keep your genetics strong, continue your own enterprise! You can do both!If the lobby had thrown in with the greens or ndp it would have just been de criminalized. They didn't because under a legal framework the industry would make more money. Canopy is very well positioned to be the labatts of pot your guys are in a different category, if your stuff is as good as you say you can be the crown royal :) why not let canopy pay for the licence you need? This is a huge pie and there is enough for everyone :)
The DD on this board is amazing! I want to thank you all for your work over the years. I don't post as I have not had much to offer but I wanted to say thank you to you all. By following your advice my hubby and I arent rich but are much more comfortable than we would have been without your info. We are in Niagara so I can drive by the greenhouse occaisionally, that is as close to dd as I can provide lol! Thank you again, I think your impact is much broader than you realize :)
I hope that your compassion club is able to be blended in to the new system. There is enough need for everyone to have a piece of the action and those who risked their freedom to get us to where we are now deserve to participate. There comes a time when flaunting a law that you forced in to place becomes counter productive. Pot is like tomatoes. you can give them away out of your garden. The minute you put it in a jar and sell them you have to follow regulations and have your kitchen inspected. This is the point we are at in this budding industry. Canopy is going to be like labatts something for the average joe. Your strains and the customers you have developed will probably continue as yours but you will have to follow regulations. I thank you for all the work you have done and the service to your patients. If it was not for you and people like you the industry would not be here. Your expertise as a long term grower is also a great asset to you! Good luck!
Two questions immediately come to mind reading this scaremongering article, 1. Doubled from what number of incidents? Previously they had 2 cases a year now there are 4? 2.Did anybody die? 150 people die every year from tylenol, it is not restricted in any way because the harm is considered acceptable.
And their licenses :)
