WTZ picked up more traders at 9.05
QLGC is sure trying to fill that gap
The flavor of the day is GNTA
WTZ down again on a day where silver is up. WTF?
WTZ Picked up some traders at 10.14
James, The new share offering proposed by WTZ isn't sitting well with investors. It's down about 4% on an up day in the metals. Do you know why?
RNDC volume in pre-market already 3x a normal full day.
RNDC up nicely in pre-market on an upgrade to outperform with a target of 3.00
RNDC up nicely today. I think I'll hold 'till 2.17/2.25
NEM turned back at 49.98. Is this a mid-life crisis?
Watching how NEM deals with 50. I got a bottle of geritol and a cane when I turned 50
Dan, thanks for the post. You inspired me to get into gold almost a year ago. I still have my core positions in NEM, GG and WTZ but the traders went out the door recently.
If you are not too busy, I would like your thoughts on the following. It seems to me that as the gold price rises from here that the margins or profitability of the miners will be greater than the relative rise in gold. In other words, the miners should increase in value faster than the rate of increase in gold. Your thoughts?

In AMGN @ 53.80. I'm back to the trading after sailing all summer.
SCHN up again this am, it's on a roll.
QLGC what a laggard
Here comes INTC. Market in overdrive.
It's nice to see the bios outperforming the market. AMGN on the road to recovery.
2045 taken. Not sure how long these legs are w/o help from INTC. SCHN outperforming QCOM.Edit: Nice bounce from the golds.

Amgen Parkinson's Drug Fails in Trial
Monday June 28, 9:17 am ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Amgen Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMGN - News), the world's biggest biotechnology company, on Monday said its experimental drug to treat Parkinson's disease failed to proved effective in a mid-stage trial.
The trial, of 34 patients, showed the drug, known as GDNF, did not meet the goal of improving symptoms over six months compared to those taking a placebo. The company said it is analyzing the data to understand why the study differs from the long-term improvement of patients who have been treated with GDNF for nearly three years in an ongoing study being conducted in the United Kingdom.
Amgen said it wants to understand if a different approach, including evaluating a higher dose, may improve outcomes.
Nice call on that gold short.
All of my bio's are under pressure today, same w/oils. SCHN (steel) continues to show strength, it's been one of my best lately. Gold doing well as are some techs. What's with QLGC?
SCHN doing its share to move comp over 2006. up 3 on no news, breaking the May high.
mainhiker, do you have any sense why AMGN and actually the whole bio tech field has been so weak lately. Many thought they would be one of the leaders on the next up leg in the market. AMGN ,in particular, just can't seem to get anything going. Thoughts?
Most of the snakes in NH tend to cluster around the state capitol. <G>
Pretty boring day here except for golds.
Dan, what do you make of the tepid response of gold stocks to the move over 420 in the POG? XAU is actually down.
Cat-o-nine tails, keel haul or walk the plank? I say walk the plank, these be shark infested waters.

Gold has a nice glow
Good point. That prolly explains why RHAT was up all am when the market was down. It looks to be fading now.
Ever play stoop tag in an asparagus patch?
I have heard from friends in the refinery/distribution businesses in the SF Bay Area that prices are often set on a regional basis and are determind on the regions "ability to pay" Thus, California with a higher standard of living pays more for petrol than Oregon. Oregon has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country at 7.7%. All this even though the refineries are in California and it costs more to transpost the gas to Oregon. Sounds like big time market manipulation to me. The price of gas is determined by the ability to pay rather than the cost to produce at the pump.
One more factor. Oregon requires a station attendant pump the gas. California is self serve.

I picked up some BLTI here and I'm concerned about it's behavior lately. It hasn't been moving up much when the market goes up and sinks when the market is down. The thrill is gone? I've got a tight (mental) stop.
OT Zeev,
I was once told this story that may very well be a "rural legend". There was a ghost town in Eastern Oregon called Shaniko. It used to be a rail head for the sheep shippers in the region. After all the native bunch grasses were stripped from the desert, the town went belly up.
Anyway, some folks got the idea to turn this ghost town into a community for mentally retarded folks. Volunteers rebuilt some of the stores and houses. A doctor and two or three nurses set up shop and soon there was a community of retarded folks living there. One ran the store, another the barber shop, hardware, bakery etc. They even had their own currency. The clients were productive and happy. This situation went on for over a year until the state (Oregon) stepped in and said the client/nurse relationship was too low. There were no funds to add nurses and the whole shebang closed down. The clients were institutionalized and it was rumored that several committed suicide. I believe this happened around the end of WWII.
Stopped out of INTC short at 30.10
Short INTC at 29.99 stop at 30.10. Where are all the shorts today? QQQ looks tempting at 37.10
CRAY The patient has no pulse.
SCHN popped. It was a steel earlier (g)
