I read where bryostatin is derived from a marine bryozoan and too expensive to turn into a pharmaceutical. The thought is a chemical form would be developed for trial.

I've seen most deals struck after phase2 results. A small company strikes a partnership takes up front money in turn lets the BP do the heavy lifting. Since Alzheimers is a unmet need Anavex could just about name it's price. Were not a one hit wonder so a company buyout may not happen until BP see's actual human data on 3-71. Anything can happen though all depends on how bad the other guy wants you.

This article from The International Journal of Biomedicine reports mucositis can have a duration of 10-14 weeks. This is probably why they extended the B-OM therapy to 11 weeks. I would say when stopping the therapy too early they were seeing instances of mucositis returning but this is just a guess. If it was not working there would be no reason to extend the therapy.
