I cetainly hope they don't...that to me means another 6-9 months of silence and hijinx.
It's my opinion based on the way they have talked about it. I don't have any secret sources like so many others. The way they have talked about it makes me think so. I also can't imagine they have not inquired somehow about the case. If I had something 1/100th as important pending in my job and didn't follow up on it I would be fired immediately. I think they know the reason it is being delayed and aren't sharing like everything else. No sources, it's what I think.
I think management knows they aren't going to win at the CAFC.
From Mpartners report today
[WAITING ON PROMISED EXECUTION
- During investor meetings at the beginning of March, Management made a promise to sell up to 2000 patents to interested parties within three to six months. The size of the transaction is expected to be in the "hundreds of millions" of dollars range. Each $100M of cash is worth $2.00/fd share.
- In the same timeframe, the company promised to sign a "major" LTE license. This would form part of our 4G/LTE estimate. Our forecast assumes that current 3G licensees would become 4G licensees.

does anyone recall management "promising" to sign a major liscense in the next 3 to 6 months? I wonder if that means sign, resign, extend?
Maybe they need someone to figure out what to do with al of that cash they borrowed for no reason.
LOL, well the APril 1st guess passes again with no CAFC, I have to laugh that IDCC management has apparently made no inquiry into why there is a hold up, I would bet a lot of money that Nokia has been in contact with the CAFC about the process. Anybody who is any good at their job doesn't just sit back and wait for anything to happen, those who do that in my work experience fail.
I have thought that in the past but our cash is becoming less valuable as well. It's lose lise
Nok is only a $5.52 stock.. your post is so naive I couldn't help but reply.
The winner will be decided 18 months after the contest ends and it will be kept a secret (perhaps even from the winner him/herself) due to contractual obligations.
OK, i'm sure this contest if a nice event, but it's tough not to be cynical at this point.
That sounds Ridiculous....wasn't barclays just last week in their report saying that there will likely be just a few sales in the 100-200 million range of some of the patents...that seems like a far cry from 10Billion or whatever these "rumors" are saying was turned down.
lost all faith in management. BCS thinks there is an 80% chance of not signing NOK? Evercore and Barclays hiring for the SA was the worst hiring since Cliff. I am sure Cliff will say he "learned" some valuable lessons from it all like he always does when he screws up. I'm out for now. I wish everyone the best and hope this thing turns around soon.
They might sign, but for a lower rate than what IDCC is asking for...if these companies sign in line with current rates rather than the higher rates that IDCC is asking for will that still drive share price? If Intel and LG were still making payments under there old rates what would that do to the bottom line????
Just talked to my Dad (who i got into IDCC about 11 years ago)about IDCC...called to ask why it's down so big today. I said because they gave lower guidance last night. He said didn't they just give guidance like a week or two ago. Not sure how to explain that one to him. Thanks a lot Cliff...making me look like an idiot which I can do just fine on my own. Seriously, how could a broker explain this to their client.
It does seem Cliff is working for the shorts many a time. Someone should ask him in the conference call sometime if they ever think on that at all. I definitely do not think the company should be run in a manner to time it to spite shorts vs common sense time to make announcements, but they could at least do enough research on their timing so as not to kill the stock price consistently timing for the shorts benefits.
Some of us have wondered that for some years now.
Yes, I definitely think there is a way capitalism is done and how corporations operate. Corporations are pushing for War in Iran, mom and pop capitalists are not.
Buy out TALK.....can ppl please cut it out. I am not saying there is 0% chance of something happening, but I am thinking it is reasonable that if that were likely there would have been some more reasonable bids durring the process. It's very unlikely so please don't perpetuate it just keeping people's hopes up. The best bet now is to get some companies liscensed and if they can do that we will be worth more than the buyout anyway. Time for management to execute their plans.
You think a bunch of insiders are buying because they think nothing good is coming in the forseeable future??? Really?
Jim I agree and hope I am welcome on your new board
I love it how Cliff only took questions from like 2 people at their CC and one of them sounded like a scripted question by some poor confused woman from Barclay's who didn't even sound like she knew what was going on. How many millions didn't they pay them to ask that question.
don't worry, the increased market share will mean IDCC has a greater amount of the market liscensed which should help managements bonuses.
"At the end of the day.....an Apple a day" HAHAHAHHAHAAHAHA OMG IDCC management...you slayed me with that quote. Have a blast spending the huge bonus you gave yourself by that pushing up the % of market you have liscensed while lying to us and the shareholders getting killed.
Does anyone know when IDCC's next quarterlies are due and when approximately the next CC would be corresponding to that? TIA.
Management is my guess
one time sales have historically not helped the stock price very much, much like holding cash doesn't get you much of a P/E. Future reocurring revenues are what seems to drive the stock price. I am sure that is what he is saying. So in essense it will be just more cash sitting in the companies coffers which management doesn't seem to do anything with except occasionally buy back shares to give themselves RSU's with. I am not negative on this...I really believe this is proving historically accurate. Someone with better insight feel free to correct me.
I disagree with that...everyone I work with in the tec industry and every computer nerd friend I knew and every ipod user I knew thought the Iphone was going to change the world of cell phones as soon as it was announced. I do admit it did EVEN BETTER than what everyone expected, but anyone but old people who still hold landlines had been guessing it would be big. That shocks me people use that arguement.
so now that the SA is over should we expect the officers to further rape the stock price with a windfall of form 4s?
That is not what I heard said. I think that is a mistatement you made. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken.
CC was Epic Fail. I can't believe they didn't talk any more about pending liscenses. :!
He did not..they only allowed 2 or 3 questions...they were very softball questions and they basically avoided answering them, then they shut the call down.
Worst call in the 13 years I have owned IDCC. Bascially said absolutely nothing and the translation of their spin is that they had no plan going into the SA. Nice to see Janet have to do some work. Hear from her again when she has to work a few minutes again in 3 months.
Question that should be asked...How much money was wasted on this SA with Barclays and Evercore. Not to mention time/opportunity cost.
The music reminds me of the scene in Titanic of the musicians playing while the ship is sinking.
Everything would have been much better if the best in class liscensing team didn't blow it with LG.
cross-licensing deals? WTH?
I think that would be a terrible idea to do so until AFTER they have all key companies under liscense.
I thought the same as the others...in my Mind I thought it's possible that they could be so corrupt as to do so, but I really believed that they would not be able to get away with it. I don't know why I think this management team would be any less corrupt that other corporations. This was the last time I will be fooled by these guys.
The even bigger problem is that this was several MONTHS ago but the company sat on it and did nothing in the face of that. I guess I will hear what they have to say at 5:30 but expect nothing but hey..how about wait another 3-5 years maybe.
I hope the conference call discusses the deals that are inked now that the process is over or..........
a) the Firings of key people responsible for this debacle
b) an explanation of the relationships with their bankers and if there were any fees paid for that huge waste of time/opportunity cost
I've felt that way for 13 years now....but still strongly believe.
