Susie...you know, it was such a simple thing to do and I know in my heart, those guys will never forget it. And I will never forget them...!!!
I'm surrounded by Military where I live. Ft. Stewart is West of me about 30 minutes away. Hunter Army Airfield is about 30 minutes East. Some submarine base about 30 minutes South..can't think of the name for that one right now and some Marine base in Beaufort, about 45 minutes North...I am literally surrounded...lol.
Saw some girls in Savannah a few weeks ago that had just returned. Chatted with them for a few and I just simply had to ask what women do about personal hygiene issues when they are stuck in the sand like that. They gave me details and said they trained for this so much that it was just like an every day thing to them. I CAN'T IMAGINE.!!!!....lol.
They weren't eating or I would have picked up their tab too...lol.
babycakes...I actually had tears.
I am sooooo proud to be an American and we have our Boys to thank for that.
I'm going to tell you a story about something I did and please do not take this the wrong way...I am not seeking any kind of praise. I want to encourage others to do what I did.
I had to go into Hinesville, Ga. one day on some business. That's where Ft. Stewart Army base is located. The town of Hinesville consists mainly of military personnel.
I decided to have dinner at a restaurant that I know is frequented by the our guys. This was during the time that we were shipping our boys out getting ready to wage war on Iraq. I was amazed and soooo proud. These guys weren't walking around hanging their heads down mumbling because they were getting ready to be shipped out. You could look at them...each and every one of them and SEE the pride on their faces, in the way they carried and presented themselves. I overheard conversations about how they felt HONORED to be a part of the group chosen to go to Iraq. I'm getting tears just thinking about this.
I saw a group of 4 guys enjoying their dinner and I asked the waiter for a paper napkin. I pulled out a pen and wrote a note on the napkin and told the guys that I felt sure they probably didn't hear it often enough but that I wanted to let them know that I appreciate them. I thanked them for putting their lives on the line so I could feel secure and enjoys the freedoms we have in the USA.
When I went up to the counter to pay for my dinner, I told the guy at the register that I wanted to pay for the meals for the 4 guys I had been watching. He looked at me kind of funny. I asked him to charge me for their meals and to give them the note I had written AFTER I left. I didn't want a thank you from them, I didn't want them to feel obligated to be polite...nothing like that. I just wanted them to know that SOMEBODY appreciates what they are doing; SOMEBODY cares!!!
This was a Mexican restaurant. The guy at the counter was a Mexican and happened to be the owner of the restaurant. He looked at me so funny when I handed him the note. He took a second to read it and then responded by saying something like..."America has been very good to me. I am going to pick a table too and do the same thing"
Let's face it folks, dinner for 4 Army guys is a small price to pay for the Freedoms we enjoy. If you see any guys out in their (whatever those military outfits are called), how about taking a minute and a couple dollars and let them know you appreciate them.
Hey Susie, sorry it took so long to respond...yes it is a true story.
LOL, now that's pretty bad. I get an IM on aol copying me this post...lol.
Yes dear...I'm awake
I take it you want me to read all 34 PM's...lol. ok, bb in an hour.

A story you won't see in the press....
Dear Friends and Family, I hope that you will spare me a few minutes of your
time
to tell you about something that I saw on Monday, October 27.
I had been attending a conference in Annapolis and was
coming home on Sunday. As you may recall, Los Angeles International
Airport was closed on Sunday, October 26, because of the fires that
affected air traffic control. Accordingly, my flight, and
many others, were canceled and I wound up spending a night in Baltimore.
My story begins the next day. When I went to check in at
the United counter Monday morning I saw a lot of
soldiers home from Iraq. Most were very young and all
had on their desert camouflage uniforms. This was a
change from earlier, when they had to buy civilian
clothes in Kuwait to fly home. It was a visible reminder
that we are in a war. It probably was pretty close to what
train terminals were like in World War II.
Many people were stopping the troops to talk to them,
asking them questions in the Starbucks line or just
saying "Welcome Home." In addition to all the flights that
had been canceled on Sunday, the weather was terrible
in Baltimore and the flights were backed up. So, there
were a lot of unhappy people in the terminal trying to get
home, but nobody that I saw gave the soldiers a bad
time.
By the afternoon, one plane to Denver had been delayed
several hours. United personnel kept asking for
volunteers to give up their seats and take another flight.
They weren't getting many takers.
Finally, a United spokeswoman got on the PA and said
this, "Folks. As you can see, there are a lot of soldiers in
the waiting area. They only have 14 days of leave and
we're trying to get them where they need to go without
spending any more time in an airport then they have to.
We sold them all tickets, knowing we would oversell the
flight. If we can, we want to get them all on this flight. We
want all the soldiers to know that we respect what you're
doing, we are here for you and we love you."
At that, the entire terminal of cranky, tired, travel-weary
people, a cross-section of America, broke into
sustained and heartfelt applause. The soldiers looked
surprised and very modest. Most of them just looked at
their boots. Many of us were wiping away tears.
And, yes, people lined up to take the later flight and all
the soldiers went to Denver on that flight.
That little moment made me proud to be an American,
and also told me why we will win this war.
If you want to send my little story on to your friends and
family, feel free. This is not some urban legend. I was
there, I was part of it, I saw it happen.

yep, agree 100%. Ran a scan and saw it on scan, liked it..then came to the board and saw Gramps mention it and started watching. Bid has noooo support. Looked at the translog...bid would drop for no reason.

oh lord no..not back then. Even now, I have "issues" with that philosophy. Don't see the logic in it. BUT, if I were of that mindset, I think FNIX does have potential for a very lonnnnnng term hold
are you trying to tell me it's time for an etiquette lesson again...roflmao
I don't "invest". I already said that. I used to trade the hell out of FONX and did quite well with it.
no honey, back in 99...look again
yeah, but he's a good distraction...lol
I wish I could be of the "invest" mindset. I would take a position in FNIX for retirement...lol. Just can't seem to get the brain going in that direction though. I liked FNIX when it was FONX, thought it had huge potential then. Now, I just like to abuse it.
Chris, yeah shorts started hitting it at .85 then she ran over 1.00, some covered. Heard they are back in
nice tank on CXIN, wonder if she'll go again
thoughts on AVGC anyone?
CXIN, looks like Bishop called it yesterday at .042..wtg
CXIN sweeeeeeeeeeeeet
CXIN screaming
hmm, Lance, Memphie...is there something you would like to share with the board? Lance, does your wife know how you feel? roflmao
What the heck is that? Oh geez, SC and I watched a show, one of those documentary type things, about a female atty. Man o man, that woman makes me look tame. SC suggest I go into practice with her ... lol. Ex boyfriends dead, husbands in jail, former employee quit working for her so she tried to take a hit on her and her husband...did whack the husband.
AC and I were cracking up. I can just see me in practice with somebody like that. Can you imagine...roflmao
EXTI, unreal...lol.
YEAH, THAT'S IT.....GOOD JOB!!!
LOL, you're terrible...lol.
Ok Mr. Song man, sing a tune for me. Didn't there used to be a song that had the lyrics "in and out; and, in and out" in it? Remember that one?
FNIX pullback time again
