babycakes...I actually had tears.

I am sooooo proud to be an American and we have our Boys to thank for that.

I'm going to tell you a story about something I did and please do not take this the wrong way...I am not seeking any kind of praise. I want to encourage others to do what I did.

I had to go into Hinesville, Ga. one day on some business. That's where Ft. Stewart Army base is located. The town of Hinesville consists mainly of military personnel.

I decided to have dinner at a restaurant that I know is frequented by the our guys. This was during the time that we were shipping our boys out getting ready to wage war on Iraq. I was amazed and soooo proud. These guys weren't walking around hanging their heads down mumbling because they were getting ready to be shipped out. You could look at them...each and every one of them and SEE the pride on their faces, in the way they carried and presented themselves. I overheard conversations about how they felt HONORED to be a part of the group chosen to go to Iraq. I'm getting tears just thinking about this.

I saw a group of 4 guys enjoying their dinner and I asked the waiter for a paper napkin. I pulled out a pen and wrote a note on the napkin and told the guys that I felt sure they probably didn't hear it often enough but that I wanted to let them know that I appreciate them. I thanked them for putting their lives on the line so I could feel secure and enjoys the freedoms we have in the USA.

When I went up to the counter to pay for my dinner, I told the guy at the register that I wanted to pay for the meals for the 4 guys I had been watching. He looked at me kind of funny. I asked him to charge me for their meals and to give them the note I had written AFTER I left. I didn't want a thank you from them, I didn't want them to feel obligated to be polite...nothing like that. I just wanted them to know that SOMEBODY appreciates what they are doing; SOMEBODY cares!!!

This was a Mexican restaurant. The guy at the counter was a Mexican and happened to be the owner of the restaurant. He looked at me so funny when I handed him the note. He took a second to read it and then responded by saying something like..."America has been very good to me. I am going to pick a table too and do the same thing"

Let's face it folks, dinner for 4 Army guys is a small price to pay for the Freedoms we enjoy. If you see any guys out in their (whatever those military outfits are called), how about taking a minute and a couple dollars and let them know you appreciate them.
