I have been using Security essentials since the launch of windows 7, I have never had any issues with it, the quick scan I have scheduled every morning takes less than a minute on the primary SSD drive.

You have to use the cable apple gives you with the ipod, iphone, ipad to sync with your P.C., you also have to convert the viedo to iphone, ipad or ipod compabitable format; yes apple goes out of there way to make it ackward so you can by movies from itune! If you are talking about a usb thumb or hard drive your best bet is to transfer the files to your pc and then to your ipad, almost all movies not originally from an ipad need to be converted, this is where ivybridge horse power really shines.

That's the whole thing about the verticle Vs. Horizontal Model of doing buissness. In the verticle Model you have a product which is in great demand and nobody else can make or sell because of quality ,intelectual property , etc and the consumer is willing to pay a huge premium for it. But the thing is the consumers have not been really paying full price for the iphone the carriers have been footing a significant amount of the cost. Most people who own an iphone never paid the full price, most of these people never get a new iphone untill they qaulify for the full discount! Now if you beleive that the price consumers are willing to pay for a really good smart phone (maybe not the best) is $200 and intel can make a really great SOC for these phones maybe Intel can start collecting $40 worth of the bill of sales.

Apple is finding out there are a finite number of people willing to pay $700 for a new smart phone that is not subsidized buy a mobile carrier, there are now several good choices to the consumer, samsung,HTC, Motorola razor droid. I think the vertical model wiill be slowly overtaken by the horizontal model. At one time cellphones where almost disposable items, I don't think we will get there but it will be closer to that model. Apple,s decline won't be rapid they have a huge installed app base simalar to x86 base but I think apples expontial stock rise is coming to an end. I think we will see some excellent $200 smartphones running on atom and android that will be the start of the horizontal expansion, they may not be as slick as the iphone but they will be more than good enough. I think that's Elmers point, a desktop os with several large screens will never feel right with a touch interface. Windows8 should of had two more distinct modes, destop and tablet; touch gets very ackward on big screens you start burning more energy than its worth. Apple has avoided touch on the desktop.

Ipad mini has made the regular ipad less attractive, I think apple will have to convince consumers that its next mini is worth $499, I don't see that happening. Apple may try and get the carriers to foot the bill with 4g LTE minis, its going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

There is no question macroeconomics will play a part in any intel rebound. Best case scenario for intel would be moderate growth for USA (hard to believe anything more than 2-3% is possible), replacement cycle for desktop,notebooks, ultrabooks falling in sync; people realizing they should have a PC and Tablet/smartphone. I don't see this happing before the fall of 2013. In the mean time the INTC has enough cashflow the Dividend at 3-4% is safe and keeps a floor for the stock at around $20. If you want mininal noise, get a self contained non refilliable water colling system for the CPU, something like a corsair i80, these are no maintaince no refill and extermely quiet you can find them on sale for $50. My first generation i7 system got hit by lighting last summer, pretty sure the surge came through the ethernet cable that I had not conected to the backup power supply surge suppressor, I am pretty sure the 17 1366 CPU is fine, 1366 socket boards are no longer in stock I could probably get one in a couple of weeks. I built an ivy bridge sysytem instead i7 3770K socket 2011, its the most quite sytem I have ever owned, was quiet for every day tasks but the CPU heatsink fan could be heard when stressed for viedo processing, I put a corsair first generation self contained water colling system and now I never hear any fan noise.

That's really not that surprising, very few people pay full price for thier iphones most trade up with an extension of thier two year contract, if you had an iphone 4S you will only be able to upgrade with the subsidy in the fall. There are already rumors of an iphone 5S in the spring. I think there is a limit to the number of customers in the world who are willing and capable of paying $700 for smartphones, apple has been doing a number on the carrierers, the carrierers won't stay stupid forever, eventually the horizonatal model which favors Intel's model of operation will work its way into smart phones. Apple under $500 before the open.

Agreed, the touch interface ,be it windows,ios or android starts getting very ackward when screen resolution is larger than 11 inchs, ; its no surprise the most popular tablets this holiday season are the 7 inchers. I expect regular ipads will sufer a significant decline in sales next year, the only thing that may prevent that is significant decrease in wieght.

Generally yes, though sometimes you have to to touch a keyboard on the bottom of the desktop, the problem with using touch on the desktop is that very little went in to making it user touch friendly, something as simple as increasing display to 200% makes the experience much more user friendly otherwise the icons and links are way to small for touching.

The Acer icon W5 cost $598 tax not included, I think it is competive with the full size iPad, I can see this on sale for for $450 five or six months from now, atom windows 8 tablets could have been a big hit if they where properly marketed and available in numbers for the holiday season. My first post on a windows 8 atom tablet. I walked into a local WalMart and went to electronics department to see what was available. Lots of ipads all generations and even mini's where in stock. Noticed two Acer Iconia W5 tablets with the Intel inside logo on the side of the box, none where on display. I the young display clerk how much? He said $399, sorry Sony you are mistaken. No dock available with is a shame because the dock would give this thing 18 hers of battery life. Here is my experience with the windows ecosystem on three devices over the last month, a Samsung S5 ultrabook, best notebook I have ever owned, only complaint the display won't fold very far, or maybe I have not figured out how to do it. Samsung active smart PC pro, nice notebook book replacement to heavy to really be used as a tablet for long periods. And finally this Acer iconia W5; I can see myself using this Like a regular iPad, its light enough and portable enough for long uses. The windows 8 ecosystem has its bright spots, once registered all my email contacts, explorer favorites, calendar appoints and to do lists are synced between devices seamlessly, even the background picture of my cat for my start page/desktop background was synced. I still don,t think windows 8 for the the desktop especially without a good touch screen or wireless touchpad is a good idea.

I think the take home message of the nexus 7, ipad mini and kindle fire, is that people prefer there portable consumption devices as light as possible. 11.9 inches is good for a laptop replacement ,but it is still ackward holding it in two hands, it looks like the sweet spot for a truly mobile portable consumption device is going to be 7-8 inches IMHO. The apple crowd that own regular size ipads are finding it hard to go back to the regular ipads after they have used the ipad mini.

That's going to be a hard target to meet, there are a lot of $199.00 7-10 inch tablets out there, kindle fire, HD, nook HD, Nexus 7, (best of the lot IMHO), Mac Mini(out selling all other ipads, Apple underestimated the demand!) I still don't think there will be 51 million tablets sold in Q4. The popularity of the 7 inch form factor points to these being used for small tasks and consumption, the problem with the PC replacement cycle is that it is now 4-5 years instead of 2-3 years.
