Syl,
Mail Boxes Ect.'s business is shipping.
Kinko's is copies, primarily.
I think of shipping when I think of MBE.
I don't even THINK of shipping when I think Kinko's.
I have a friend in marketing at FDX. I'll have to see what he thinks of the deal.
I don't follow FedEx (FDX), but why in the hell would they buy Kinko's for $2.4 Billion?
I know they want the shipping business, but that just doesn't make sence to me.
How much shipping business could Kinko's provide?
Not $2.4 Billion, could they?
Thanks , Ragman. I see they provide support for Linux based servers.
What's your take on BakBone?
(By the way, why did you choose "Ragman"? Are you in the clothing business?)
Scott
Hi James, I went to Yahoo, but couldn't find a company profile for BKBOF. Do you have a link by chance?
Do you like BKBOF because you feel it's a good Linux play , or what?
Thank you,
Scott
Thank you, Wahz. That was a very insightful reply.
"Thanks, I used to look at that every day and had forgotten about it"
Do you like that as an indicator, then?
Well, if you believe all the crap you read and hear lately, the big boys are selling losers and buying the "good" stocks to make their portfolios look better. You know, window dressing.
So, does this mean JDSU will be a big winner in '04?
Stay tuned....
No,I'd feel better if RIMM hit 69-70 first.
I'm watching NGEN today to go short.
I'm a little gun shy going short in this market. I'm very causous (sp?).
Could you imagine being short RIMM when it was @43, then waking up and see it gap up 50%?
That would have sucked.
Hi, Wahz.
What about a 5-10% (comp)correction sometime in Jan. 04?
I'm hearing "so-called" experts calling for one.
Do you think that is likely?
Scott
RIMM's on my short "watch" list. I wouldn't mind seeing it go to 70 or so in the next few days.
Even now though, I think it's safe to short RIMM to at least $65.35 (upper BB).
RIMM hasn't spent too many days staying above it's upper BB on the daily. (At least it hasn't in the past year.)
I'll have my eye on it Monday.
"...and this is why I think it woulkd be good time just go walk away..."
So, you're not going to short these stock when the market tops out in '06 or so?
Stuff like RIMM? If it's 68 now, what the hell's it going to be in '06 or so? 200?
I would think if "these" stocks run up like we think they will between now and '06, there's got to be some good money to be made shorting these same stocks.
Can you please comment on this?
Thanks again, Wahz.
Scott
Edit: "Anyway, any of you can look at the 1992 market and get an idea of what I expect this year to look like." Didn't 1992 end flat?
I don't think BitDefender has a firewall.
I typed in "Firewall" under search and nothing came up.
I was running the free version.
Whare's that little doggie when you need him? He's running the Pro version of BD, maybe he can tell us if it has a firewall.
Auuuuuuuuugggggggggiiieeeeee...!
Here boy, here boy, heeerrrre boy...
Bruce, I just want to thank you again for starting this great thread. It was a great idea.
I'm glad you started this thread and notified us on some of the other threads.
I was prepared to spend a couple grand on a new high power computer before you started this site.
Now, I can get through 2004 without buying a new computer. Although, maybe I should help out the economy and go ahead and buy one. Naw. I'll just buy more stocks. ;>)
Also, I downloaded AVG 6.0 and ran the scan.I found one virus that was called "Dialer".
When I ran the leak test and the other test on the GRC web-site, my results were the same: solid as a rock.
Scott
Bruce,
It never asked. What does that mean?
What screwed me I can sum up in one word:
MARGIN!
I've got to stop doing that.
Great on the upside.
Really sucks on the downside.
"Those who bought near 9, or even higher, have to scale in, or average down, or just wait, wait, wait."
I'm doing both with NENG.
I might pick up more AMCC shortly.
Maybe some SCMR, too. I sold what I had of that one.
I know. It's just irritating, that's all.
My long term account is no problem. But I have a short term account that I MAY need to get into in the next 6 months and it's gone to hell this past month. It may now be a Long term account! :>)
I do have a high percentage of cash in the short term account.
But I'm just sitting and watching now.
Hope you have a nice Christmas.
We went to my parents house Christmas eve and stayed home yesterday. Played Xbox with the kids all day!
"Those who bought near 4 have a nice little profit here."
LOL! yeah, but what about us "investors" that bought at 9?
Did you go to the www.grc.com web-site and try the leak test and the other test?
My computer is running in "stealth" mode and is secure.
And I'm only using the firewall built into XP.
Thanks, 007. eom.
Bruce,
just got off the phone with my brother.
He's using Zone Alarm from AVG. He likes it too.
They got bought out, but Zone Alarm is still free.
Also, I haven't been able to figure out: does BitDefender (personal) have a firewall built in? I can't tell.
Bruce,
I have bitDefender, the personal edition (Auggie's running the Pro version as I remember).
When I ran the checks at the GRC site, my computer check out as being "Stealth". The way I understand results, my computer can't be penetrated, at least as it stands today (who knows about tomorrow?)
I really like bitDefender.
My brother is running something from AVG, I believe.
Merry Christmas, everyone.
Here's alittle tip I received from my brother this evening.
Go here to check to see if your computer has any open ports:
www.grc.com
Click on ShieldsUp! On the next page, scroll to the section titled "Hot Spots (no, this isn't a porno site!) then click on ShieldsUp!
Follow instructions to run the probe.
LeakTest is another test you may want to run. This test will tell if a Trojan program can get installed on your computer to access the internet.
There is a lot of useful and interesting info at this site.
My thanks goes out to Steve Gibson of Gibson Research Co. for this web-site.
Enjoy everybody!

Have a safe and happy holiday everyone.
Keep us informed. Thank, GjS. eoms
Cingular is interested in buying AT&T.
Any opinion on this one?
Wahz: Are you familiar with Avaya? (symbol: AV)
They are supposed to be the leaders in the technology that routes long distance calls over the internet?
I took this from Yahoo:

Wondering if you thinks this might be a good play for the next few years.
Thanks,
Scott
Linda, I see China wants to give it's people personal property and privacy rights.
TIMMMMMBBBBBERRRRRR!
That's the sound of Communism falling.
Give people a little taste of freedom and capitalism, and there's no turning back!
I think it will happen within the next 10 years.
Anyone remember Parastrokia? (Couldn't find the spelling for that Soviet word. But hey, we all know what happened to that failed attempt at trying to combine Capitalism with Communism: Bye, Bye Soviet Union)
Now if only we can convince the communist (I mean socialist)in this country that there methodes won't work.
Oh well, I was young an naive once. Although, I never thought the communist were my friend.
That's one political post for today.
I can have another here, if I choose.
Christ, if there ever was an invitation to short a stock, I think it's RIMM here. Just a day or two trade.
47% today. I'll watch that one closely here.
Wow! I'm blown away: You and I actually agree on something!
Other than the fact that Mercedes makes the best diesel enigne ever put into an automobile:>)
"There is NO way I am selling anything, as long as the story doesn't change, as is the concern with neng, but appears to be misplaced concern."
Beautifully said. I totally agree: as long as the story doesn't change. That's my biggest concern with NENG.
I think you "hit the nail on the head" when you stated about a month ago, that it's now "show me time".
We need to see huge sales and profits. Once we do, I think these stocks will really "fly".
Hopefully, the 4Q '03 and 1Q '04 numbers will reflect this.
"this one looks to be setting up for a "january effect" bounce "
That's exactly what I think.
That's what I think.
Are you still holding?
"...I tend to be enthusiastic and opinionated. I may well be full of crap, but it's not intentional"
Wahz, buddy, you've got to stop using that line.
I'm tired of reading it.
You're being WAY to hard on YOURSELF!
You make great calls.
Just don't make the day-to-day calls. It's not your forte. So what?
You are doing a great job here.
This could be a situation where peolple are selling this at a loss and then the stock will be bought heavily in Jan.
Then, maybe not.
We will know soon.
I would like to buy more, but I'm overweighted enough already in NENG. But, if it goes to 4 or more on no news, I'll be buying more.
You find any "curent" short numbers?
Augie,
That BitDefender works great.
Thanks for the tip.
I think it's because of all the a-hole lawyers are piling on. Another one filed today.
Sure, no problem. I read about it somewhere.
The article mentioned to empty it every once in a while, because it will get "full" ,too, and also slow down your computer.
How does this bode for NENG? Positive, negative, irrevelant?
