I think we're seeing a "good old-fashioned" short squeeze on gold today.
Gold + 5.80/oz.
NEM is cruising.
Hi, Linda. Just a thought:
Keep NGEN on your "shorts" list. When the markets cool off in a few weeks, this one should take a BIG hit.
Shorts are having their heads handed to them.
Take a look this morning.
All this on NO news (at least I didn't see any).
This is why you don't want to hold shorts overnight in this market.
Scott
Overall, pre-market, techs are kicking ass. eom
Bruce, got the PM.
Just what I thought.
That's why I didn't do anything.
I wanted to hear from you first.
Thanks again.
(Yes, everyone, this message is in code. Sorry.)
Thanks, Chris. eom
Thanks, I'll take a look at the folder when I have some time.
I've got one more article to read written by Harry S. Dent, Jr and then I've got to get a few hours sleep before the markets open.
Scott
Chris, thanks for posting this to the board.
Do you like what Dent has to say?
I've followed him since about 1998.
I will admit though, I was so disgusted with the markets about 18 months ago, that I was doing some "house cleaning" and I threw away his "Roaring 2000's" book.
After my last post to you, I went here:
http://www.hsdent.com
and read "The Bubble Boom". Read it if you haven't already.
It's another very insightful piece written by Dent.
I like the part where he compares GM in the early 1900's with Intel of the 1990's.
It just re-inforces my belief in what will come in the next few years.
I need this senario to work out for this:
http://www.allpar.com/cars/me412.html
Now, if only I pick the right stocks...
"edit: back to Dent. He expects a disaster next decade and so do
I."
So, does that mean you are pushing out futher, your new "low" in the markets?
Recently, you stated the low may be in 2014.
Is it now 2018 or so?
I show smss.exe. in task manager.
I not sure it's not supposed to be there, though. Do you know what it is?
I also have 3 svchost.exe. in Task Manager. I have a feeling they're supposed to be there. For my ISP, maybe?
Wahz, are you familiar with the writings of Harry S. Dent, Jr.?
I guess you could say I'm in line with his thinking on the markets.
In other words, the economy and the markets are "driven" by demographics. When I tell this theory to friends, they look at me like I'm crazy. They just don't get it.
Is Dent still around? I haven't seen anything from him in a couple of years.
I think I'm go over to Border's web-site and see if he has a new book out.
Edit: Just checked, nothing new.
"vz is a cdma network, in case you weren't aware."
Yes, that was my point, exactly.
I have 2 cell phones.
Both are with Cingular. One is on the "old" system and one is on the "new" system, which I have been told by Cingular, was developed by Nokia.
I can't say I'm real happy with either service.
If I were to change service today, I'd go with Verison.
JMO.
"Nope. That's the price at which I would prefer to buy it -- {GGGGG} -- a within-one-penny retest of its all time low -- that sucker would take off like a ruptured duck with a rocket up its assets!
In the real world I had to settle for $6.03. {g}"
I'm in at 6.03, too. A HUGE position, to boot.
"His PE calculations won't be broadly accepted."
That's good.
Great article, thank Wahz. eom
"..folks like vz aren't idiots and didn't fall for it."
The way I understand it, Verizon has the best cellular network
out there.
"(It can be interesting to have your phone explode into flames but i don't think it will ever catch on with the masses). "
Huh, are you serious? Hate to have one of those in my shirt pocket!
My up-dated AVG Anti-virus pulled out 2 more viruses today.
I still get a blank IE page a lot.
It's like I'm left clicking twice to pull up IE and one of the pages is blank.
The only problem is, I'm NOT clicking twice on my IE icon.
Edit:
I'm on my way to the Cleveland Museum of Natual History.
I'll see you guys tonight.
After I posted that , I looked at the chart (I probably should have done that before posting).
I guess Auggie was being funny.
Does that mean you think it's headed there, before moving higher?
"LOL. Not before someone kicks NENG please over $5.. :)"
I'm there with you on NENG. I bought some @ 4.80.
Hey, will someone please kick AMCC in the ass to get it moving?
Thank you,
Scott
Thanks, Bruce. I have that one already. A nice program.
The occasional pop-up I get is usually blank. Does this mean one of my spy-ware programs is working, since the page is blank?
Scott
Bruce,
Boot problem solved so far, by doing your recommendations (although, I still use the screen saver. it comes on after 25 min. of in-activity)
Pop up filter works good, but I still get one once in a while.
I can't tell where it's coming from.
All of the anti-virus and spy-ware programs come up negative.
But I can't complain.
I hope everyone had a safe New Years.
By the way: Happy New Year, everyone.
Keep it safe tonight and tomorrow and I'll see you all back here on Sat. Right?
DAMN! What is that thing? A turbocharger?
Did you scab that from your 911 Twin-turbo? ;')
I don't have any real problems with them yet.
I don't short much. Maybe only 5 times in my "investing life".
Remember, sometimes the best trade you make, is not making the trade. :>)
"My thinking on this is that this is primarily a long market right now and that's where I'm going to be making most of my money. When an unusual short opportunity presents, like RIMM, I'm happy to take profits on the short side, but when it stalls, I'm out. I still think a short can get some points on it, but while waiting anything can happen and better long opportunities are passing by. "
My feelings, exactly.
"I tried 'em and left 'em."
OOO, hey, I kinda like the sound of that! ;')
Tried to short TRIB, but ScotTrade wanted me to "call" my broker.
I don't play that game.
That's why I trade over the internet!
Linda: shorted NGEN for .54 this morning.
I'm none for the day, maybe ;')
You're not holding shorts over into 04' are you?
I wouldn't. You never know what kind of crazy logic may happen on Friday!
Have a Happy New Year.
Thanks extelecom. eom.
Are the markets only open 1/2 day today?
Yahoo showing a full day.
Sorry for the ignorance here, guys.
Thanks, Ragman.
I hold all the ones you mentioned except OCCF.
"While you are in power options...
Monitor-Never
Hard disks-Never
Standby-Never
When I press the power button-shut down
Do not enable hibernation"
O.k., done.
By the way, I'm using "Ad Pop-Up Filter".
I really like it.
Thanks again,
Scott
Try this link, Bruce.
Tested o.k.
http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=706CKWY68TMSMDS3
Why shouldn't i use stand-by?
Bruce, Last time I tried to run PitStop, my computer was so "bullet" proof, I couldn't run the test.
Also, the boot problem happens mostly when I start from "hibernation" or what ever you call it when the computer shuts down on it's own after a certain amount of in-activity.
Fred Smith likes it, too.
I saw him on T.V. tonight.
He was as happy as a little school girl.
The analyst don't seem to like it too well.
But Fred did make a good point: Kinko's is a privatly held company and the analyst didn't get to see the books.
Bruce: A bit of a problem:
I've been getting a "Boot Disc" failure at start-up recently and it's happening more often.
When I hit "enter" I can hear my Floppy drive make some noise.
Does this mean my Floppy drive is going bad or my hard drive?
Thanks,
Scott
It will be interesting to see how this turns out in a year or so.
When I read this, I thought it may be good for a short.
I don't own any FDX or UPS, for the record.
I know there's a joke in there somewhere.
Did you short RIMM today?
I shorted NGEN twice today for about .35
Probably should have held til tomorrow, but I don't like staying short overnight in these maket conditions.
Especially the sector NGEN is in.
Someone just mentiones the "N" word, and NGEN takes off towrds the moon. Good for shorting, though.
