Nocona--Has anyone experimented with using volume levels as a validator on the QQQQ 5-min CCI-144 chart? I noticed, for instance, while watching the volume levels this morning that there was a very large spike up (3.5 million) at 11:10. The price immediately jumped upwards, of course. And within five minutes the CCI-144 had gone above the zero line, indicating a long position was appropriate. Two
Nocona, I wondered if you had played the 50 after that small whip yesterday? The NDX would have kept me in my long position without suffering that whip, as I discovered later. Thanks. Two
be, the trinq presently doesn't seem sufficiently high to warrant the sell-off in the QQQQs this morning? Which makes me wonder if it isn't an artificial sell-off to attract bears? Two
I agree, gloe, and I'm experimenting with this trading method on the $RUT. Two
Good morning, gloe, thanks for checking. I use prophet.net charts, which clearly show the 5-min CCI-144 (QQQQ) popping above 100 (101.47) at 12:50 p.m. Eastern yesterday (and then falling below 100 at 12:55). On the $NDX CCI-144 chart, this did not happen. The CCI remained below 100 until finally rising above that level at 3:35 (it fell below 100 at 3:40 with no 3/8 confirmation, then rose above 100 again into the close). My experience thus far using the CCI-144 indicates that the $NDX 5-min chart is more accurate and less volatile than the QQQQ chart. I wonder if others who trade this method feel that way, too? Two
Nocona, I wondered how you handled the situation today when the CCI-144 went above 100 at 12:50 p.m. Eastern and then fell below 100 at 12:55 p.m.? Did you switch your long position to short when the 3/8 confirmed? Or did you remain in your long position? Thanks. Two
Makes sense to me, thanks. Two
I haven't used the 2/5 confirmation yet during my "training period." This is set up on a CCI-144 5-min chart, correct? Also, please explain why one would use the 2/5 confirmation this morning as opposed to using the 3/8 confirmation? Thanks. Two
Nocona, I appreciate your running commentary. I took a short trade when the CCI-144 had a 3/8 confirmation at about 10:10 a.m. Eastern (Q-45.40). Two
Very interesting, tweak, and thanks for sharing. Two
tweak, I must confess my ignorance. What does the "Aroon Oscillator" chart tell us tonight about the NDX? Thanks. Two
Thanks for the update, ballyhoo. Unless the spin-masters can change things, this message to investors should create a sell-off, wouldn't you think? Yet I haven't seen the price falter? I guess irrationality rules. Two
The price seems to be holding? Has anyone seen an analysis posted re. the Fed minutes? We should have seen a reaction by now, one way or the other? Two
be, I'm no expert re. the trinq, but it's only about .80 currently. What factors do you see that convince you a big sell-off is imminent? (Hope you're right.) Thanks. Two
be, I'll take you up on that bet. As I mentioned to Foot, I think the Fed minutes will be benign, or soft, and embolden investors to buy before the close. That's been the Fed pattern so far. A Fed lady yesterday said "nice things" that suggested no rate hikes, which drove up the indexes. I ask (rhetorically), what would change that message in the Fed minutes this afternoon? I hope I'm wrong because I'd like to take a solid short position and make some money. Two
Foot, you could be right. I can't even make good guesses anymore as to market direction. The Fed pump is big today, however, which makes me lean in a bullish direction. Two
Foot, keep in mind that the Fed minutes come out in a few hours. Assuming the minutes are benign (which I suspect they will be), and AAPL rallies, the QQQQs and other indexes probably will rally, too. Two
Nocona, sorry to belabor this point, but help me understand why you didn't reverse your short position when the CCI-144 pushed above the zero line and there was a 3/8 confirm at 9:35 a.m. Eastern (price was 44.86 at beginning of that bar)? Two
Nocona, I covered and reversed when the CCI-144 moved up above the zero line from last night's close. Currently long, but wondering if that was the right move? Two
Gleno, in all my years of watching the QQQQs, I've never seen a stranger close than yesterday's? During literally the last minute of trading, the index fell off a cliff and the price went from 45.04 to 44.68 in 45 seconds flat. Then it bounced right back to 45.05 in AH even as HPQ was selling off? Two
Nocona, thanks for the encouragement. I took a short position around 12:25 Eastern when the CCI-144 dropped below 300 and there was a 3/8 confirmation. Looks like the price is now rising to the same level where I took my short (EMA 34 is rising, too). Yet, the CCI-144 is around 132 and is not rising. This makes me uncomfortable with my short position? Are you or anyone else feeling this way currently? Thanks. Two
Nocona, I got very discouraged after trading on Friday, a day in which I suffered several whipsaws and bad trades. Today is much more encouraging, of course, and much easier to read. Two
farooq, that was a bad assumption on my part based on the fact that I had three negative trades in a row on Friday (and thought you might have, too). I tried to religiously follow the triggers every time the CCI-144 crossed 100 on Friday, which it seemed to do several times and reverse each time during the choppy periods of the day. What I think I learned was that the QQQQ trigger-crosses, even though there were 3/8 confirmations, were much faster than the NDX trigger-crosses and usually were fakeouts. The NDX trigger-crosses seemed to be more accurate and would have kept me in the correct position. Thanks for sharing your Friday trades. They were very illuminating. Two
farooq, this being such a choppy day, did you use your "three strikes and you're out" rule and go to cash, or stay in the game? To me, this seemed like an incredibly difficult day to trade using the NERS strategy. Lots of fakeouts and whipsaws, including the last-minute decline at the end. I probably would have lost money today. Two
You, too, gloe. And thanks for your help this week. Two
Gleno, my charts agree with yours. Things are turning up. Looks like someone wants the Qs to close around 45 today. Two
Yes, I know you trade ER. That, unfortunately, was one of my senior moments. Comes from simultaneously trying to day-trade and keep up with my day job as a writer. Two
gloe, please allow me to understand. On the $NDX, the CCI-144 dropped below 100 and there was a 3/8 confirmation at 11:10 a.m. Eastern (this was seen, too, on the CCI-720 chart). I was tempted to switch my long to a short position at that point. This doesn't look to me like an intra-bar move? Two
gloe, I noticed the CCI-144 dropping below 100 very briefly with a 3/8 confirmation at 11:10 Eastern. But then the CCI quickly jumped above 100 and now it doesn't show up as having dropped below 100? This faked me out momentarily into thinking a switch to a short position was needed. Still long. Two
LP2, did you go short when the price line crossed below 50 on the 5-min chart? 2X
Just checking my sanity, but did anyone else go long the QQQQs around 10:10 Eastern? I'm still new at this game and just wondered? Thanks. Two
be, are you long now? Even though the trinq is around 1.03, the 5-min chart suggested going long about 20-30 minutes ago. Two
Gleno, I could be wrong, but I think we're still in a buy-the-dip mode and we may see that happen in an hour or so despite the futures being down. I get the feeling today will be neutral to slightly down at the close. However, I'm looking for some confirmed sell signals, which we may see, too. Two
Nocona, your son was correct (he's good, like you). My question really had to do with using the 1-min CCI-720 chart to determine the best moment to get into a position when the 5-min CCI-144 goes above or below a trigger. In some previous posts you mentioned using the 1-min chart. I thought it helped yesterday because the 5-min chart bumped over 100 (each was a fakeout and was signaled as such by the 1-min chart) on two short occasions before 2:45. Thanks. 2X
Interesting price action for the past 30 minutes. While watching the one-minute CCI-720 chart, I saw it go above 100 three times: at 2:17, 2:37 and 2:47. Each time saw the QQQQ price hit between 44.75-44.77. The 5-min chart finally confirmed all these attempts to break above 100 at around 2:48 p.m. Eastern.
Nocona, I know you sometimes use the one-minute CCI-720 chart. And I'm sure you saw what I did. If you don't mind my asking, did you go long earlier than when the 5-min CCI-144 chart went above 100 for the first time? Thanks. 2X
Gleno, I like be's scenario where the QQQQ price spikes up one more time, then goes down slightly to below yesterday's close to end the day. Then we have a hard sell-off tomorrow. Two
Gleno, look at the price line and the SMA-20 on the five-minute chart. The two have been virtually at the same level for the past two hours, with very little variation. Which leads me to the following obvious conclusions: we're either 1) ready to go up, 2) ready to go down, or 3) seeing a prop-job that will hold it steady into the close. I think Da Boyz are holding the price steady in preparation for a big sell-off tomorrow. Two
farooq, I appreciated your words of wisdom and experience. As I mentioned in an earlier post, today is the first time I've traded NERS in real time using futures on margin with a simulated platform. I made a few order-entry mistakes, of course, at the beginning but quickly got through that challenge. Other than that, the only other challenge has been the test of my patience during the past few hours. Actually, I'm really enjoying trading NERS and am confident that I'll make outstanding profits when I switch to a cash environment in the near future. Like anything else, experience and patience are the keys to mastering this system. Thanks. Two
Nocona, right now I feel like the "survivorman" in a raft on the Pacific without a paddle and there's no breeze or current. It appears the CCI-144 is in one of those "not working" modes. If you only followed the 3/8, you would have gone long and remained long starting around 11:10 (at 44.65). These are the times, I suppose, that test NERS' traders. Two
Nocona, I guess the answer to my question really comes down to a judgment call. At what point do you decide to stop using the CCI-144 and simply rely on the 3/8 crossovers? Perhaps this is a rhetorical question that really doesn't have an answer? Two
