Newly, is this both in or out of the country?
What is the Israeli defense stock Zeev used to play?
Was it something along the lines of more shoes to drop for that Zeev saying?
Just saw HANS go by and thought of Zeev.
Mark, I saw that you attempted to stop the discussion after I wrote my post. From my perspective, it seemed that you started the climate change topic in a response to Taxman. But lets not worry about it and carry on.
Zab, You haven't missed a beat! Glad to see.
We already beat this horse on this thread on climate change. Unless it is stock specific, I say take your discussion to another thread. Thanks!
POOL, also an past Zeev play, has been doing well too.
Tanker: DECK
Looks like a short squeeze is happening before earnings.
Just got a new computer with Windows 7 and I was bummed to learn I can't put the kitco toolbar on the bottom of my screen. :(
Mark, If you wanted to buy a protective put for just the earnings event, the April puts are your best bet. I would look for a stike below 380. As you go lower, so does the cost of the put. Once you buy the put you have a choice on Friday -- you can sell the put (at a gain or loss), or you can do nothing. If you do nothing and ISRG is higher than your strike price, then nothing will happen and you are just out the cost of that option. If you do nothing and ISRG is lower than your strike price, the option will be exercised. At my broker the exercise is automatic if it is in the money. Just call your broker and check on that. If it isn't automatic, just call your broker and tell them to exercise if you think the stock price will be lower than your put price on Monday. If the option is exercised you will sell your shares at the put price.
The easiest way to do all this is to just buy and sell the option itself.
Perhaps this won't help you for this earnings, but maybe in the future.
One more note: Remember that as the stock price rises, the put price drops.
Mark, You need to keep in mind why you bought the stock in the first place. You clearly like the company's prospects and are only worried about this earnings call. I echo what Bruce has suggested and would buy a protective put. Stops on a wild stock like ISRG can be disaster, esp in after-hours.
All that said, I am effectively short for this call.
Good luck to both of us!
I don't know about Jerry - but I would think Lee would know - salami and all.
Send a salami to your boy in the army. That's what I learned from Katz's.
Cy, thanks for sharing this. I am very happy for these people. The trend looks promising.
BTW, I sent you a PM a couple of weeks ago, just before your trip.
Just wondering if you saw it.
Maokin, do you keep up on ISRG fundamentals? I am trying to make a plan for upcoming earnings. I have no position right now but I might write some calls if I get enough premium.
The shocking part about your story is that it didn't happen that long ago.
Hey Newly, You mended yet?
Thanks for your thoughts. A credit card is a pain plus many have inactivity fees. I don't have time to research and get something in hand.
Thanks Newly. I thought of you when I posted the question. So, when you say American Express, you are talking American Express travelers checks? I was thinking about giving some to a friend who is traveling in the US. But if there is a hassle in cashing them in, maybe they are not worth it. I just thought in lieu of hanging on cash which could be lost or stolen. I guess there is always a bank to cash them in.
Beware of info from the Fraud Discovery Institute. They are headed by Barry Minkow, a convicted felon, who claims to be reformed. The Fraud Dscovery Institute makes their money short selling.
Do people still use Traveler's Checks?
Doesn't look like McCain bill will get much traction. People like their vitamins.
Never been on a CCL ship, only on Celebrity, but I bet they have been accused of same issues. Most cruise ships are non-US domicile.
BTW, went to the local PNRA yesterday for "market research". I concluded at the most dead of times there were too many people there. Not a short except for a short term play.
USNA still lives on too. Amazing. Just noticed - haven't paid any attention to.
Hey Zab, the stocks will be there waiting for your return. Now is the time to really sit on your hands and get well. Good wishes your way!
Wow, seems a lot of folks on board with PNRA. I think Cramer isn't as gung ho on the name since the one top guy retired. High margins on soups. I guess I should stay away for now.
CCL - just raised prices on the summer sailings. Bookings are good.
Marketmaven, a long time back you used to post negative info on PNRA. I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on it as of late. They make the worst, skimpy sandwiches, but the soup is ok. That's about the extent of my knowledge.
It looks like the calls I sold on GILD will expire worthless. I don't think the $1.10 I earned was worth it in this environment, but I'll take it. I'll only write them again if the premium improves.
Sounds like you got sick from someone else, not having fun in the 80 degree temps with a tennis racket. Speedy recovery to you. NM will still be there.
Thanks, Pantera. I see RIG down now more again this am.
GILD can't seem to catch on. I sold Mar 49 calls against my position a while back. Didn't get much for the trouble, but I thought if it was taken away from me I could probably buy the shares cheaper. One of these days it will take off, but probably without me. Still have my CELG (no calls written either).
Thoughts on RIG here? too soon for a buying op? Like DO and DVN more? Thanks!
For a commercial property appraisal, it is best to use restaurant comps (leases and sales) for restaurants, assuming that is the highest and best use of the property. There is typically a bit more to the structure build out for a restaurant than for a hardware store. If there are no comps that is another story. But the spaces are fairly different in size as well.
I guess they need to prove there still is a huge equity position. Yeah, I now see that Joe has left. Too bad he credits Matt, an admitted felon, for IHub's success. I say Ihub's success came from people like Joe.
$3,000 for a commercial property appraisal doesn't sound like a lot to me, Joe. I was getting that for retail over 10 years ago. BTW, I don't see how you can use restaurant comps for a hardware store. Two very different properties in my book.
JBLU has been charging $7 for a pillow and blanket. At least the first bag there is included in the fare.
It looks as though I have a lot of posts to catch up on. And I am happy to report that I still have my hearing.
Joe, I don't think most small investors know what a double bottom is, nor do they look at charts. Keep in mind, I'm thinking more of the folks with retirement funds and savings that are typically in mutual funds and maybe a few longer-term stock holds. I also don't think they are watching bloomberg and cnbc. (Aren't ratings rather low and getting lower for these shows?) They get clips on regular news where most likely they only hear what the dow is doing.
I don't think Obama wants to highlight that after a year in office and oodles of $ spent that we are in/end up in the same place in the markets compared to March '09. I just don't see it.
Joe, if they were to drop the markets like last year, then I think they shoot themselves in the foot. Investors who didn't leave the first go around would throw in the towel and those that did would feel vindicated.
Things are too rosy in tech land to let us fall too far. Hey but I'm an optimist. :)
<<Now if I was a criminal (think the Federal Reserve and US treasury) running the markets - a democrat - at that...I would see that investor confidence is very weak. Not much money is going into equities. What I would do here is drop the market down just like last year about this time. I mean drop it hard. Then in about mid March again I would start to support the market and get some stories to the media about how this looks like last year and that we may have another 70% bounce off the lows. That would get Joe six pack in because he missed out last year and doesn't want to miss again. I would then keep the markets up until the mid term elections to keep more of my guys in office. Then rinse and repeat. >>
OT Another reason to drink on the plane.
I apologize to my fellow passengers tomorrow. I hate people like me who fly with colds. I was thinking I would be in better shape by now. Maybe by tomorrow?
GENZ and AMGN in same boat. Thinking of picking some up but worried about this market.
CELG back to life. GILD not holding up as well as I expected. Not that I expected much.
OT PBS special on Frontline about regional airlines. Looks like focus is on pilots and how tough things are for jrs. The tiny part I read mentioned American and Delta better control their regionals. Hummmm, I'm on US Air tomorrow. Not thrilled but at least their planes have improved.
OT I thought that was pilot error in Buffalo.
By the way, I'm getting old, so I don't remember about your turboprop warnings. However, I do remember EF Hutton.
