THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much.
Thanks. Saw Waking Life and Legend of 1900 last week... and something else.. hmmmm.
Waking Life: 3.5/5
Must see again. Loved the music, modern jazz. The endless monologues were fun at first. Felt like I was in a philosophy class or sitting at a table with a bunch of friends after a philosophy class. Or! Sitting around high with some friends having a conversation - years ago, of course.
Anyway, what I loved about it was the reminder of how intellectually flexible and verbally facile people can be when they spend time thinking for the sake of it. Life becomes full of utility and unless one remains active in the pursuit of knowledge and the art of articulation, even for sport, the flow of ideas becomes disjointed as words and memories grow harder to retrieve. The junk and clutter of necessity and the general effluvia of existence trip you up. So, I was reminded that I have to exercise more. Listening to the seamless stream of theories, albeit rehearsed, brought back memories of a time when that could have been, well, was me. However, the movie grows tiresome (as did the art of speaking to hear yourself). Might not for a college student in the process of discovery. So much of it is stuff you've considered and discarded or considered and accepted and now.... how am I going to pay for that house and car?
Legend of 1900: 2.9/5
Interesting concept but not a great movie. Tim Roth is always good (saw him last night in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead which I am unprepared to write about yet). The music in 1900, however, was unbelievable. The piano playing was not of this world. Must get a Jelly Roll Morton CD now.
Merry Christmas!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
BUON NATALE!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
What wine is that, derf?
Honestly, I've been busy tying up the semester. Am reading with some amusement the direction things have taken here while I was away. I don't have the spare neurons to sort through it all at the moment.
I sort of had a strategy, a vague sequence in mind for tastings but we'll see. I have no vested interest in it going any particular way I suppose, other than the money for the wines I bought to try out.
I have been called many things but squirrely is by far the nicest.
Juicy bunch.
The 40 Year Old Virgin - loved it. Keener has been bugging me for quite some time now but inspite of her, I loved it.
3.75 out of 5
Smiley______face. Hey, the 2005 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau was a superior little wine, which is why I chose it. The first time I tasted it I wrote on WINE how surprised I was by how wonderful it is for what it is. So fresh yet with a backbone. Most Nouveaus, and even Beaujolais, are underwhelming. The delicate beauty of the 2005 took me by surprise and is extremely accessible both in its simplicity and supposed availability, AND price. If you did indeed drink this villages swill (I shouldn't write that without having had it but by all reports I got it wasn't good at all), that's too bad. OH! And I also found that once it was open and had a chance to breathe... was put back in the frig and opened again... colder was better!!! When freshly opened it's better a bit warmer but once it opened up, colder was mint. It filled out enough so that it didn't taste small, harsh and tight. And, in fact, WAS perfect at the traditional temp recommendations.
I had four Malbecs tonight. One was huge and terrific, one was not as big and a great buy, one was gross and raisiny and yucky and one needed tons of breathing to find its stride and then it was yummy. Malbecs are terrific and a bottle of wine is a unique thing and a lovely experience.
Blah, blah, blah. Anyway, thanks for the terrific post.
Don't try to hurdle it!!!
Good idea!
No, a total of around 2 but I'm soused!
Tx. I cheated, though. TOOOOOOO bad!!! I love that number. I'm also a tad tipsy from the four Malbecs I've had. Only two were good.
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!
Mom still here but hurrrah!!!!!!!
See you soon.
Who'll be pleased? 1111?
I want 1111!!!!!
Hey! I just had two great Malbecs with my winemaker. First is Amancaya Malbec, 2004. It was 13.99. REALLY a bang for the buck.
The second is the 2004 Clos de los Siete, also a Malbec - GORGEOUS bottle. Actually bought it as an idea for my own label. It turned out to be a MONSTER wine for 16.99. It is the baby of wine doctor Michel Rolland. He can be seen is the movie Mondovino.
Mother just popped in. Back in a bit.
