msc, that may be true, but I'd like to see the gory details!
"and then let the participants work out their own arrangements for licensing."
That's certainly true with IDCC!
L2V, thanks for your response.
"I'm also making the assumption that the daily working group documentation records for each standard includes sufficient detail to verify which methods and techniques were chosen."
L2V, I agree but I don't understand why: who has what in the standard is such a closlely guarded secret. I would love to know exactly which essential IP of the 3G standard belongs to IDCC. IMO this info would allow investors to better evaluate the risk in IDCC.
"and those documents specifically state who gave what intellectual property within each standard".
L2V, could you provide a link(s) to these documents? Thanks.
I don't understand options. I am a long who wants some insurance just in case IDCC loses to NOK. Is this the best way to do it? Anyone can respond to this. Thanks.
Please, we can do without any political stuff on this board!
Anyone interested in learning about Wireless Security go to this link: http://www.informit.com/articles/article.asp?p=177383&seqNum=1
"We already know that Nokia stated in their filing they offered IDCC a settlement." Could you please provide a link that states this? If this were true, why would NOK say that ERICY is not a trigger?
"Nokia has agreed that it owes
royalties to InterDigital, but it disagrees on the specifics of those
obligations. Nokia has asked the International Court of Arbitration of the
International Chamber of Commerce to determine that it has no royalty
obligations to the InterDigital unit based on the Ericsson and Sony Ericsson
licenses."
Every time I see this BS I want to SCREAM!
Not a problem L2V. I always enjoy your very informative and humourous posts. Keep it up.
"Looks like they agreed on $26.25 mil for CDMA2000 and PDC/PHS thru 2008, which is 6 qtrs, and means $4.375 mil/qtr"
Unless I am missing something I think your math is wrong, i.e.: sounds more like 20 qrts.
"no catch up or up front...just royalty bearing on sales of covered technologies going forward"
I would think just the opposite is true, i.e.: if there is no catch up or upfront and you begin paying when the deal is signed, then delay signing the deal as long as possible!
I get great service in Northwest Maine with AT&T.
"Unfortunately, if IDCC lose the 2G to Nokia in this arbitration, they will have a harder time collecting 3G from others."
Why do you think that? 3G is a much different ballgame than 2G. I think IDCC learned from their 2G mistakes. Their involvement in the 3G standards plus the current paying 3G licenses give them the legal strength that will not allow others to get a free ride this time around. I agree what others have said here that NOK is just using 2G as a negotiating tool for 3G.
and, IMO, NOK would be foolish to make the second choice!
"I hope those who are at the ASM will ask the tough questions in public or get with the analysist who can ask the tough questions or get into private conversations with the company executivies to get the information that we all want to know more about."
And reporting your findings to this board would be greatly appreciated!
"I think at the ASM mgmt will be much more open and will clear some things up for us and let us know where we stand."
If no deals are announced by the ASM, then mgmt cannot be allowed to BS the shareholders any longer.
"Time for IDCC to show us the licenses from these economic discussions".
I believe there will be deal(s) done before the ASM; if not, then those attending need to ASK WHY?
"before Monday's opening they may announce a licensee". If they were going to do that it would be much nicer to do it after the market closes today to give us all a great weekend!
Data,
Are there any good reasons why IDCC would not want to publically state their essential patents at this time? Also do other companies, e.g.: QCOM, publically state their essential patents? Thanks.
"I don't know if it's rational or not but IMO being up so much on low volume yesterday might because of rumors of a licensing agreement."
If that were true, wouldn't that carry over into today's trading?
Email sent. Great work Jim!
PLEASE DO & DON'T COME BACK!
This is a great idea. I'm from NH and will write to my representatives in Congress also. Let's see if we can get the representatives in all 50 states to become aware of this issue.
"I think both Bill Merritt and Rip sounded a little shell shocked during the conference call.
I had the same response, especially with Bill Merritt who sounded so positive and was very articulate at the CC after the Ericy settlement.
This "indemnifier issue" for 3G is my only concern with IDCC. It would be nice to have all the infringers paying for 2G but 3G is where the future value really lies.
IDCC has made light (as of others on this board) of this indemnifier issue but it really concerns me because as I read in a recent post "IDCC could become irrelevant"!
I can remember many times in the past where the stock price was in a free-fall on no news, but before I panicked and sold, I checked this board which allowed me to relax and weather the storm. This board is invaluable! Thanks all.
"we should start to hear some news any day or week now"
IMO: If news was on the horizon then it would have been announced by IDCC so they could get a positive response to the ISO before the ASM, i.e.: I don't expect any news soon.
Where did you get thid 40% figure?
One of these days we are going to win this war with the shorts!
You & Sophist may be right, but is there any reason why the company could not give general guidance to that effect and stop investors from assuming the worst, i.e.: greedy management?
Loop, Your best post to date and you have had many. Thanks!
Can anyone provide some links to sites that provide more up-to-date stock quotes than the 15 minute delayed I currently get? Thanks.
$72.72 for me. After 3+ years I am finally in the black!
I can't figure out why ERICY has been moving UP steadily the past 2 weeks?
Thanks Mickey, that was very informative.
Desert and Tarheel: thanks for the info, but I'm still confused and don't want to waste any more of your time. Could you provide a link that will educate me on how options work? TIA
re "People who own the stock are selling shares and using some of the proceeds to buy Call options"
I understand why the price goes down when "People who own the stock are selling shares". I don't understand why it goes down when they "buy Call options". Thanks.
re "We've had several bad days, as longs appear to be turning into Options Players, trying hard to leverage their investment"
Could someone please explain why the above would cause the stock price to go down? TIA
re "Do you really think these smart engineers are so stupid they can't identify if someone is infringing on a patented technology? The bottom line is IDCC knows beyond a shadow of doubt that Ericsson is using the technology, and thats a fact."
I'm sure the ERICY engineers are also not stupid, and if asked they would tell it straight: "yeah, of course we are using IDCC IPR". That also goes for the NOK, MOT, Siemens, etc. engineers. What deceitful games these companies play! Maybe the engineers should be running these companies!
