sorry about my previous post - it was a messy cut and paste. You can view directly on LinkedIn - impressive numbers on the pace of consolidations in the photonics industry in 2022. Could be a powerful driver of many things in 2023.
From Carlos Lee (EPIC) on consolidation in the photonics field (LinkedIn):
Based on 136 acquisitions in 2022, most were driven by US-based companies. 35 companies were acquired by Europe-based companies, of which 11 (31%) of the companies they acquired are outside Europe = ???????????????? ?????????????????? ???????????? ????????????????! The US acquired 89 companies of which 24 are European (27%) confirming ???????????? ???? ???????? ???????????????????? ????????????! https://lnkd.in/esGxDd2i ?????? ?????????????????? ???????????????? ???? ??????????????????????????. #photonics #investment #mergersandacquisitions
“LOOKING AHEAD https://lnkd.in/erJBT7ag: On January 30th 2023, I have the chance to talk about one of the biggest market trends right now photonic industry. It's all part of the re-branded Laser Focus World's Executive Forum conference held yearly in San Francisco during #PhotonicsWest. It’s where we learn about the photonic industry's upcoming market trends from those making a difference….
And then I also want to involve two up-and-coming startups, one of which is currently in stealth mode. But I’m sure they will have something massive to announce very soon. I’m talking about Peter Winzer founder of Nubis Communications, and then we have (Michael Lebby) of Lightwave Logic, Inc. They have an excellent track record on communicating how to bring new materials and photonic functionality to the semiconductor fabs.”

SmartPhotonics and PhotonDelta link: Turns out PhotonDelta has helped fund SmartPhotonics at least twice. Sorry if this has been posted before.

Fully agree with this.
“ Each project worked with industrial stakeholders including Northrop Grumman, Teledyne, Hughes Research Labs, Raytheon, IBM, Intel, AIM Photonics, Lightwave Logic, Corning….”
I googled AIM Photonics. Interesting company. What makes it even more interesting is that it’s home base is Albany, NY. Which is just down the interstate from Malta.
Kinda makes one go “hmmmm”.
New post from Carlos Lee of EPIC - one of our foundries perhaps? From LinkedIn:
Spain launches its first commercial foundry for III-V semiconductors targeting integrated photonics (http://sparcfoundry.com/). The city of Vigo in #Spain will be the location of a new state-of-the-art foundry for III-V-Semiconductor-based photonics, called SPARC (III-V Semiconductor Foundry and Advanced Photonics Research Center). This new company will consist of a 1.600 m2 cleanroom for wafer production, and a research centre that will assist customers in bringing fully-certified photonic products to the market. The foundry will be operational around late 2023. SPARC aims to capitalize on the potential of III-V semiconductors (GaAs, InP, GaN,..) to accommodate the increasing number of markets and applications that rely heavily on light, photonics, and high-speed electronics. III-V Semiconductors are the only class of materials that can be used to realize very-compact- and efficient light sources and detectors across a very wavelength range from the ultraviolet up to the mid-infrared. Consequently, SPARC will have the capability and capacity to address a large customer base across a wide range of different markets, including optical communications, displays, lighting, aerospace, automotive, biomedical, sensing, and quantum technologies, as well as high-speed- and/or high-power electronic applications for which the III-V Semiconductor technology is equally well suited for.

I don’t think that is at all “nothing”. Good eyes! Seeing GFS there isn’t a huge surprise but I had to Google IMEC. Looks like a Belgian subsidiary of TSMC. See link below. Things are indeed getting exciting!

Of course that’s not a question for me at all - just a diversion. A common strategy but let’s just assume that each of us define our own questions? If that’s yours, fine. It’s not on my top 100 list.
Picked up another 1,000 shares myself. Probably shouldn’t - already way over-weighted here. But ML just again confirmed that he doesn’t give guidance lightly. So I’m confident of the 2 foundries this quarter. Peer reviewed results takes away any fear I had from the short paper - poling not any issue. He gave the opening presentation at ECOC on working with foundries. So scaling - and demand - not an issue.
Add to that too fast to measure, 1/3 the energy and Michael’s word that we are talking to numerous Tier1’s - well, why wouldn’t I buy a few more?
Pretty much seals the short case shut.
Good stuff - much appreciated.

Lightwave Logic and Polariton Technologies Announce World-Record Performance for 250 GHz Optical Link
Breakthrough Peer-Reviewed Paper Results Presented at Prestigious 2022 European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC)
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. and RUSCHLIKON, Switzerland, Sept. 22, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Lightwave Logic, Inc. (NASDAQ: LWLG) and Polariton Technologies today announced the achievement of a world-record demonstration of a 250GHz super high bandwidth electro-optical-electrical (EOE) link through a collaboration with ETH Zurich. The link was demonstrated by ETH Zurich and uses Polariton's high-speed plasmonic modulators containing Lightwave's proprietary PerkanamineTM chromophores and ETH Zurich's high-speed graphene photodetectors.
The groundbreaking results were presented by Stephan Koepfli as part of a peer-reviewed post-deadline paper presented at the prestigious 2022 European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) in Basel, Switzerland on September 22, 2022. The post-deadline paper is titled ">500 GHz Bandwidth Graphene Photodetector Enabling Highest-Capacity Plasmonic-to-Plasmonic Links".
The link contained a plasmonic modulator using electro-optic polymer material as well as a novel metamaterial enhanced graphene photodetector featuring a 200 nm spectral window and a setup-limited1 bandwidth of 500 GHz. The EOE link achieved a world record and unprecedented 250 GHz 3dB bandwidth2.
Dr. Michael Lebby, Chief Executive Officer of Lightwave Logic, said: "Next generation ultra-high-capacity interconnects require compact, ultra-fast modulators on the transmission end and ultra-fast photodetectors on the receiving end - this incredible result demonstrates that our electro-optic polymers will be instrumental not only for next-generation high-capacity interconnects, but for the more advanced and faster links that will be required for succeeding generations. This is an optical link that utilizes devices with extremely high bandwidths, and the plasmonic demonstration shows that hybrid technologies such as electro-optic polymers and graphene together form an important technology platform for volume scalability using large silicon foundries for mass commercialization. Through our collaboration with Polariton, we have utilized our polymers for a world-record performance for a plasmonic optical link.
"The plasmonic-to-plasmonic optical link opens flexible integration possibilities that we have only imagined before. This shows that plasmonic devices now complete an ultra-high frequency toolbox for a variety of applications in fiber communications - something we need to add to our technology roadmaps going forward," concluded Lebby.
Dr. Wolfgang Heni, Co-CTO at Polariton, added: "Polariton is dedicated to providing best-in-class devices with the highest-performance. Our goal is to make optical communications faster, the technology more scalable and with it, components and infrastructure more energy efficient. ETH Zurich's recent demonstration of a plasmonic link using both electro-optic polymers and graphene as active materials provides a peek into the future of super high-capacity optical networking. This showcases the opportunities of integrating advanced materials with established photonic platforms such as silicon photonics."

Meghan, I believe Rockley still has a deal with Medtronic who I believe is still moving forward with their product.
Off topic: I posted on the Rockley board a source further explaining what I heard about Apple and Rockley. Hope that helps.
I’m just going to ride it out. Just a small position there anyway.

Agree with x. Pumping expectations is actually a tool of the shorts. Silly to be disappointed about a single day. The quarter is where expectations have been set. And even that isn’t about revenues but partnerships.
Good explanation of company by Dr Lebby, as usual, but nothing new particularly.

Pre-market ASK bouncing all over the place. Games being played.
Just received a message on Thinkorswim / TD Ameritrade that LWLG will release earnings after the market closes today. Lots going on.
Because…?
Thanks for the link. His remarks, btw, start at 2:15 EDT, not 12:15.

Very interesting video. Thanks, Steve.
Dwagom04,
That’s a tragic and oh-so-early loss. My heart goes out to you.
