lj: And, in other news, China is locking up the nickel market, it seems, so they will be making the batteries for EV's. It is part of their long-range plans. Elon Musk whined about the shortage of nickel a year or so ago, encouraging exploration and production of the metal.
Good. Another nail in the EV coffin. Hopefully, U.S. consumers and Europeans won't want cheap EV imports from China.
For national security reasons, the U.S. needs to plan for increased production of internal combustion engine vehicles.
A civilization that depends on the internet and rare minerals and other minerals has set itself up for collapse, imo. The collapse of our civilization is the farthest thing from the minds of our leaders, Governmental and corporate. They are clueless. To paraphrase my late boss, they pray to the "patron saint of the generally clueless".
He liked to repeat the adage, "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." Unfortunately, the "one-eyed man' is a senile, old far*t.
lj: Good thread of posts. NVDA's earnings might trigger a huge selloff tomorrow. It depends on how the CEO spins the earnings. Our number one priority should be hedging against a significant drop in the U.S. dollar.
lj: Whatever really irritates me is analysts and talking heads touting homebuilder stocks.
IMO, they have made their move, but what do I know. Buy too high and regret it for years.
lj: I might buy TSLA puts at some point--after it tanks. Can an EV stock "tank"? LOL!
hweb2: CSPI
Thank you. I bought it, socked it away and ignored it, wondering what it was and why I bought it. I have a nice capital gain. Because I didn't pay attention, I didn't make my usual mistake of selling too soon!
r59: TGB
Thank you. I have been holding a sizable position for many, many moons!
Yesterday, I sold about 20 percent of the position.
The "perfect storm" would be a big dog making an offer for the company.
OT: I am focusing on BSX. Their new system for treating AFib is going to be a "blockbuster".
It is early days, too. BHVN is another company I like very much. Made money a few years ago, before they sold their blockbuster migraine drug, Nurtec, to Pfizer. But, as usual, I sold way too soon. Biohaven is a neurological drug company, and they have quite a few very interesting drug candidates in various phases of studies. IMO, the stock is not "cheap", but "cheap" is relative.
Thank you again.
r59: Any thoughts on copper and TGB. I wonder whether copper prices have topped out. Hard to say. Thanks.
2morrowsGains: CSPI
Did you highlight this company a few years ago? I bought a position then, and have a nice profit. I couldn't remember why I purchased it, thinking someone on this board must have rcommended it! If you are the person, thank you VERY much.
lj: TSLA up
U sold it, correct?
lj: Excellent post. This peon agrees with your thesis.
lj: iPhone prices in China
Apple has nothing on big pharma.
lj: "China is the world leader in going green
despite U.S. jaw jacking about it..." Unless China creates most of its energy from nuclear power, they are the antithesis of "going green". EV's don't run on air.
On conservative cable shows, they claim China is still building coal plants.
A country with over 1B people will never be "green".
My G-rated secret fantasy:
Weeks ago, when MSTR did the 9-year? adjustment, forgot what they call it, I put half of my portfolio in MSTR. Just a dream with 20-20 hindsight.
I knew the opportunity of a lifetime was staring us in the face, but I was too chicken to "go big".
I went "home".
Up over $100 points today. I think it is up about 500 points.
On another note, I think NVDA is set up for a fall.
Who is writing the algos that are propping up AAPL?
It is VERY out of favor, yet it doesn't drop much.
lj: Time for SQQQ?
lj: Thank you for the lj options update!
AI is going to get very scary for traders like us, Vern. Make hay while the sun shines.
lj: I am not buying the count. Think (and hope) it is greatly exaggerated. Even one child is one too many.
The U.S. policy with regard to Israel is crazy. They have no influence over Israel.
So, they are spending billions and billions to build a pier to unload food.
You have to wonder whether the pier will be used for military operations by the U.S. eventually.
On a positive note, China is pushing Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
When that happens, Larry the Fink can start rebuilding Ukraine. Evil, evil, evil.
lj: BOIL and VLO
I am almost back to even on one of my lots.
They used to call scenarios like this the Bizarro World.
VLO: I had shares called at $160 on Friday. I was looked to sell the stock.
After I reported the options trade to my options guru on the 15th, he said it would get called. Now I see the stock is $164.
Again, don't have a lot of time to watch the market. Had I seen the stock move up after the 15th, I would have rolled it out. Last year he did 28 successful options trades on VLO.
Still hold 10 percent of my original position from 2009!
Petrol prices have dropped nicely, but I am playing chicken with the fillin' stations before I tank up.
lj: MSTR
Holy cow. Up over $200 on Wednesday. I knew last week an opportunity was presenting itself, but I was too chicken to buy more shares. Live and never learn. Don't have a lot of time to devote to the market lately.
al44: A scream! LOL!
al44: Do we care what that weirdo thinks? No we do not!
lj: news from the front
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13419181/russia-ukraine-nato-kharkiv-frontline.html
Where did Russia get the troops for this offensive? Drafting 14-year-olds?
More ammo for Ukraine will solve the problem? We know that Ukraine is having a hard time getting recruits.
I wonder whether this story is fake news. You know what I mean, Vern?
lj: The recent PPI[ was .5 for the month. That would translate to 6 percent a year.
Six percent PPI would mean a 12 percent CPI, and I don't think mortgage rates and energy are included in the CPI, but correct me if I am wrong. Everyone but the top 10 percent are screwed.
lj: Biden started the EV trade war because (1) it is election year and (2) imo, the Government has pushed GM and F into the EV cult. Cheap imports would be the end of GM and F.
By the way, an article was circulating yesterday to the effect that EV's cause motion sickness in some people. Sudden acceleration is the culprit, apparently.
The pathetic resale value of EV's with finish them off in my opinions. Hybrids are the future.
NYBob: Looks like 100 percent fake news, unless the Democrats are behind it! He is a guaranteed loser in November, unless the Democrats can fill the mail-in drop boxes with votes from illegals. There should be ZERO drop boxes. ZERO.
lj: SMCI
I saw that. Still watching.
Bought BSX today as a LT investment.
Gmenfan: That is a riot. And that is a terrier for you!
Hopefully, this insane animal will get the death penalty:

lj: Good thought. Ngas is used in production of many, many things. And oil is used to transport them. Musk claims he is upping production of charging stations in a major way to solve the battery-range problem.
I couldn't care less. Who wants to sit and charge a car on a trip. Are charging stations going to have restrooms and sell snacks? I doubt it.
lj: VTLE
Important information. Thank you.
Petrol prices have dropped about 20 cents a gallon over a 2-week period.
Rainy weekend here. On rainy days, people used to go shopping. Now they stay home and binge watch shows or mess around on the internet. The greedy hogs are putting baseball games on Apple TV and other pay networks. At this rate, transistor radios will come back in style.
r59: My impression was that Schwab was not amenable to day trading years ago, JMO.
I get paper statements. Since the TD/Schwab merger, I have been getting very cheesy statements. The paper seems thinner and the print is so light it won't photocopy distinctly on a home photocopier. And, some information has been eliminated.
IMO, it is a ploy to "encourage" (some would say "force") people to switch to electronic delivery. Given the price of printer cartridges, Schwab's statements are now insulting.
Fidelity still sends the same high-quality statements.
After my experience with their estate department recently, I am thinking of moving my accounts to Fidelity. My experience with Fidelity's estate department was excellent.
IMO, Schwab's customer service has been lessened post merger in some areas.
JMO.
Gmenfan: Speaking of crawlers, if you can believe the bottom of the screen on Newsmax, RFK, Jr. has no problem with late-term abortions.
lj: What do U make of this Vern. Folks might not need to use charcoal for their Mother's Day cookouts. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-13402759/Severe-solar-storm-watch-alert-NOAA.html
lj: VLO up over $1 today. The calm before the big selloff? Of course, they should have made big money up to this point in the second quarter. Believe it or not, I don't want to sell and take the capital gain, because I'll have a hefty cap gain if those 100 shares of NVDA are called.
lj: gasoline demand
Now that is very interesting. This statement, though, I find ridiculous, typical EV propaganda: "while others say it highlights a growing share of renewable fuels replacing conventional fossil fuels." My guess is that two factors are responsible: (1) people are driving less due to the high price of gasoline and (2) the rainy weather, especially on weekends, resulted in less driving. Last Sunday, here, I noticed that almost no one bothered to come out of their house--it was wet and cold. So far, May here has been unseasonably cold, but not cold enough for most people to turn on their heat.
That being said, I am tempted to unload my remaining shares of VLO.
It will be interesting to see whether refiners sell off today in a big way (Thursday).
He had to fight fake impeachments. Congress wouldn't fund the wall. There was a pandemic. Remember? The Government had to spend tons of money to keep the economy from collapsing. And he doesn't hate anybody. That one statement undercuts the credibility of the person who created that stupid meme. The haters are the Democrats. They hate Donald Trump. Sick, sick, sick. Unamerican.
DD: Are U talking about a big chip plant in Arizona? Tech plant?
lj: I don't use FakeBook. I am not going to enrich Zuckerberg and his cronies. Didn't he give $400M in the last election to defeat Trump?
IMO, using FakeBook lowers the IQ.
DD: In other words, you do not have a logical, credible rebuttal.
If you hate this country and want it destroyed from within, why don't you just say so and stop posting nonsense.
DD: Suck on this: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13392175/newly-arrived-illegal-immigrant-kidnaps-girl-rapes.html
If U support the Democrats, you own it.
lj: I will never break even on GRRR. A no-hope investment. Reverse splits are scr## jobs.
