Cannot access WAVX DD Board.
Awk and others, bare with me here.
I am not a techie and I don't trust MS, knowing how proprietary MS is. What is to prevent MS from doing an end around and offering some type TPM management solution of their own?

Thanks for the update. My regards to the MRS. Keep the faith and keep slogging. Hopefully WAVX and others will make you a happy camper in months to come.

Hey Bull, we are all sorry to hear about you health issues. I think many of us worry that we are running out of time; waiting to hit the jackpot. Maybe we all should stay off the board and not follow WAVX for a period of time to reduce the added stress in our lives. (LOL) I look forward to the next CC and your stats.
We are long overdue!!

With respect to any pleasant surprises,
If there are any pleasant surprises that news certainly has not been leaked. Expecting to slog on another quarter or two.

Hey Bull, what happened? Did you decide you really did not want to post that? LOL
You did a good job of calling today’s run up.
Looking forward to your next quarterly update.
Maybe we can all be pleasantly surprised.

Yes there is hope!
From the Buckner article;
"Despite questions raised in the past, the TPM chip has proven to be a valuable tool for network managers who have taken advantage of it. Increased awareness of its capabilities is expected to lead to wider use."

From the article you posted
Within a year or two, we would have a significantly more secure internet – one where we, our colleagues, and our loved ones could surf without the constant fear of malicious interference. How much faster and better would our entire computing Internet experience be if we didn't have to spend every second implementing a 100 disparate defences that won't work?
Don't let anyone sell you on the idea that we have to live with the current state of internet insecurity or that it would take years to make it safer. We could do it right now. I am keeping my promise to repeat this call until the masses listen and take action.

Is this new news and revenue?
Wave Systems recently announced that it has received $5.2 million in additional license and maintenance orders through its PC OEM partners on behalf of a U.S.-based automotive company. The orders hasten the deployment and increase the total value of the automaker's software orders to $10.9 million, $6.7 million of which will be recorded as revenue over the next 12 months, $1.9 million of which was recorded as revenue in 2010 and $2.3 million of which is expected to be recognized as revenue in 2012 through 2014.
"Having utilized our solution during 2010, the customer has accelerated and significantly expanded its deployment of ERAS seats, furthering our belief that a centrally managed, hardware encryption solution can offer superior data protection," said Steven Sprague, President and CEO.

It looks like a number of stop losses have been taken out.
No matter how many times people are warned about the loss of their shares they still use the stop loss rather than a mental
note to self. It will just be a short period of time and we will
be over the $5.00 benchmark and those with the stops will be kicking themselves. Don't let them take your shares unless you really want to sell.

I was talking with a friend of mine earlier this evening. I got him involved with WAVX several months ago. He told me he had bought some more shares today and has a Scott Trade Account. He said he was put on notice he had to call the broker to make the buy. He asked why he had to call to buy the shares and was told "Somebody wants to know who is buying shares of a computer security company".
I know this has been discussed before but I don't remember what the explanation was.
Good luck to all.

Today's Mellon announcement is just one more piece of an ever enlarging puzzle. I am glad to see it come from Mellon rather than WAVX. The eVault will have to be managed; a function of ETS.
I too expected to see a bump this morning. I expect we will be up at the end of the day. Of course I am not a day trader. LOL

SIAP: More on Wave Integrating Support for Intel(R) vPro(TM)
Wave Integrating Support for Intel(R) vPro(TM) Technology in Its Software for Enterprise Management of Self-Encrypting Hard Drives
02/04/10 -- Wave Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: WAVX) (www.wave.com) today announced the integration of support for Intel® vPro? Technology into its EMBASSY® software, a solution for secure and robust management of self-encrypting hard drives in the enterprise. Self-encrypting drives -- where encryption is built into the drive itself -- are available from all the major drive vendors and leading PC OEMs.
Visit Wave's booth at Intel's vBiz 2010 virtual event for details of the solution and to view the Intel-produced video featuring Wave President and CEO Steven Sprague (also available by clicking here: http://www.westlakemediagroup.com/intel/IDF09-1a-WaveDemo-10.zip)
Intel vPro contains hardware-embedded secure remote management technology. Wave's solution is designed to enhance and leverage this technology by letting IT initiate a secure, remote connection with a PC, regardless of its power state. Potential benefits to the enterprise include:
-- End users no longer need to supply a password for self-encrypting
drives in multi-user workstations (such as a nursing station in a
hospital). The network administrator can now perform a secure unlock
of the drive without passwords -- eliminating the costs associated with
passwords for non-mobile PCs.
-- Restricting the use of specific PCs to specific network segments,
facilities or rooms by only unlocking the self-encrypting drive if the
machine is connected to an authorized port.
-- Support for standard remote management flows. Enables authorized IT to
remotely image or issue patches over the network, thus reducing the
cost of management, without compromising security or disruption to IT
work flow.
-- Enabling remote user credential recovery that is invisible to the end
user.
-- By operating independently from the operating system (OS), IT can
unlock a drive even with a corrupted OS.
-- Support for "green" initiatives. Environmentally conscious companies
can power down unused systems without impacting standard IT management
practices.
-- Support for all industry-standard, Opal-compliant self-encrypting
drives (including both standard and solid-state versions) from Fujitsu,
Hitachi, Samsung and Toshiba, along with Seagate's DriveTrust?
technology, now available from leading PC OEMs.
"The all new 2010 Intel® Core? processor family features intelligent performance and unique security features to help businesses address their top concerns -- cutting costs and increasing efficiency," said Lisa Watts, Director, Business Client Ecosystem Development, Intel Corporation. "Intel recognizes Wave Systems as one of the industry leaders for enhancing many of the advanced 'smart features' of vPro Technology that enables fast and easy management of self-encrypting drives. This will offer real value and benefit in the future as more enterprises select self-encrypting drives to protect data at rest."
"We're proud of the fact that today we're the first ISV that is fully integrating vPro support into an end-to-end solution for managing the built-in security of self-encrypting drives," said Brian Berger, Executive Vice President of Marketing & Sales for Wave Systems. "This solution addresses many enterprise requirements for deploying drives in organizations, such as how to send patches or perform routine maintenance during off hours or how to bypass end users in providing passwords to unlock an encrypted drive."
Support for vPro is available today in Wave's EMBASSY client and server software for beta testing. Wave plans to integrate vPro support as a standard feature, with the first commercially available versions planned for later in 2010 -- allowing users to have the benefits of security installed in the factory vs. an aftermarket solution.
SELF-ENCRYPTING DRIVES: A GROWING SEGMENT OF THE MOBILE DATA PROTECTION MARKET
Self-encrypting drives (SEDs) can provide businesses with superior security for data at rest and can help to ensure compliance with the growing list of data privacy regulations. SEDs received attention last year with the publication of the Trusted Computing Group's Opal storage specification -- a single framework for hardware-based encryption -- allowing the major drive vendors to design drives of their own based on the functions defined in the standard.

The ETS is important to me because of the fear of the machine being lost or stolen while she is away at college.
If that should happen I do not want someone else benefitting from my investment. I have a Latitude D610 (old now) with the ETS for the same reason.
See Ya in Vegas!
Good question Elan.
I ordered a new Latitude for my granddaughter for Christmas.
It will have a fingerprint reader and the ETS.
I am sure I will be facing the same dilemma.

I like the analogy of turning on the TV and then being able to channel surf without haveing to put in a code and password.
I am sure we have all heard that same analogy before but it really hit home with me during the CC.

There has been real progress since 2Q 04 but I see much greater results in the immediate future.

While disappointed there is no surprise, I was right on in my survey analysis. We can look for some big changes next quarter as we move into the area of profitability and a growing share price.
Bull, I am looking for your updated chart.

Interesting Q&A with Lark Allen
From a blog.....
Subject: [FDE] Q concerning hardware-based encryption/security
I have a concern about self-encrypting drives, specifically Seagate Momentus FDE. While the idea looks quite brilliant, my understanding is that the user is only prompted for credentials when booting from a cold machine (one that has been shut down completely). If that's correct, then that presents the following vector of attack:
Bad Guy catches machine in standby (or hibernate?) mode. Bad Guy wakes machine & then restarts it, booting to a USB stick (or CD) rather than the HDD. Since HDD is already authenticated, Bad Guy mounts file system & reads (or writes!) data directly off of HDD.
Subject: [FDE] A concerning hardware-based encryption/security
The alternate boot threat you describe cannot be executed against the Seagate Momentus FDE drives. Whenever power is removed from the drive, either at full system shutdown, or when the system goes into hibernation, the drive locks and all user data, including the hibernation file is encrypted and unavailable. When the system is powered up the FDE drive is locked. If an alternate system is booted, the drive will only appear to have a 128MB available, which is the protected read-only partition on the drive which stores the shadow master boot record which is used to provide the pre-boot authentication for unlocking the drive by an authorized user. Once the drive is unlocked, then the normal boot process or return from hibernation will execute. There is no possibility for alternate boot scenarios which will be able to find the drive in an unlocked state.
The Wave Embassy software you mentioned for managing the setup and security settings for the Seagate FDE drive, forces Windows to use hibernate mode, even if standby mode is selected by the user. In Dell systems, Seagate, Wave, and Dell worked together to create a solution for secure standby mode, so for Dell systems both hibernate and standby modes are supported with full security.
