MLNK's 2Bn in NOLs are worth considering as a yet-to-be-monetized asset. I think the SPLP CEO who's in the process of acquiring MLNK
knows exactly what they're worth, and he's looking to capitalize
big time on them. If you take PIOE's recent NOL deal they are worth .40 on the dollar, roughly a Billion dollars in MLNKs case.
MLNK is currently valued at 123MM. Roughly 9 times less than its
real value when NOLs get monetized by SPLP.
Actually, I think my math is wrong. $2BN NOLs ought to be worth $800MM or thereabouts, based on the PIOE deal.
So, Warren Lichtenstein (WL)owns Steel Partners (SPLP). He took a majority interest in Handy and Harmon (HNH). Subsequently he bought (HNH) outright and made them a part of SPLP. WL currently owns 35% of MLNK (through SPLPs holdings). MLNK currently is holding $2BN of NOLs.
If we can take PIOEs recent acquisition of RCP partners using mostly NOLs, my math (which is definitely suspect) says that MLNKs NOLs ought to be worth $175MM using the recent PIOE metric. Their whole business is currently only valued at $112MM, which I'm assuming assigns no value to the NOLs.
What do people think?
MLNK shorts are between Rock & $8.00
Latest short interest 1,474,200 shares, down 9% with Days to Cover at 27.8
Pre-meditated NOL deal in the works...
Cover now for $1.95 or later at $8.00
From 1.3 to 1.6 nice.
Intel Preferred Supplier....141m cash with 52.7m o/s....this should see a nice move up soon, imo!

We are at $5.76 and need only .08 cents to get to where I'm predicting could be a blue-sky-breakout. $5.84 break could lead us straight into $8 range. If we can't hold that range, I'll start taking profits.

Guess I'm the only trader making good money on this trade:-}
-OE1-
SCANNER ALERT since I first posted around $4.60 we are quickly aproaching $6 and that could happen within the hour. As I said, a short-squeeze is just about to happen and this baby could fly higher than even I can predict.
--ocean--
SCANNER ALERT MLNK ..... Well I missed getting in yesterday on the dip down to $5 due to a nasty virus I got from opening/responding to a poster link here on IHub ... having said that I did take a nice position in MLNK this morning as I'm now slowly but surely up and running again.
I'm in at $5.15 and see the trend moving closer torwards to a short-squeeze that I think will happen as we approach $6 per share. This baby if you decide to get in at least up to $6 is a good entry and could easily explode to highs of $15-$20 or more for a nice short-to-mid-term play. So again SCANNER ALERT^ for MLNK
--Ocean--
Ahhhhh now we get a little meat --->>>•SG&A expenses of $18.1 million, a 25.0% reduction compared to the first quarter of fiscal 2013
•Operating income of $2.6 million compared to operating loss of $7.3 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2013
•Adjusted EBITDA of $8.5 million compared to $2.1 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2013
•Net income of $0.6 million, or $0.01 per diluted share, compared with net loss of $10.7 million, or $0.24 per share, in the first quarter of fiscal 2013
So in the morning if this baby opens without a gap, I'd be surprised, but I think I'll buy a handful. Just hope it can dip or pullback to the low $5's or maybe get lucky and get some around $4.95ish .... I like this scanner play traders but I'm not in until tomorrow at best!
--Ocean--
SCANNER ALERT since this morning around 4.60 this baby seems to have found it's wings. looking for it to start a short squeeze around $5.50 which might cause MLNK to hit $16-$20 within the next 13-15 days. Keep this on radar traders!

Monday September 29, 4:22 pm ET
WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Former Internet operating and development company CMGI®, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMGI - News) has transformed from its legacy as an Internet pioneer into a leading provider of global supply chain business process management solutions. The transition is marked today with the renaming of CMGI to ModusLink Global Solutions™, Inc. Commencing with market open tomorrow, Tuesday, September 30, 2008, ModusLink Global Solutions will trade on NASDAQ under the symbol MLNK.
Source: CMGI
During the last several years, the company executed many strategic and operational initiatives as part of its transformation, including investments in a globally integrated technology platform, introduction of new solutions and appointment of new senior leadership. The recent acquisitions of Open Channel Solutions® and PTS Electronics™ solidified the transition and complement the Company’s existing operating company, ModusLink®. ModusLink Global Solutions delivers an integrated portfolio of supply chain business process outsourcing and technology solutions across four core competencies: supply chain, aftermarket, e-Business and entitlement management.
“CMGI’s 2004 acquisition of Modus Media began the company’s transformation into a focused provider of supply chain business process management solutions,” said Joseph C. Lawler, chairman, president and CEO of CMGI, now ModusLink Global Solutions. “The decision to change the name reflects the success and respect that ModusLink has earned as a leader in the supply chain outsourcing industry, and encompasses the market synergies enabled by the acquisitions of PTS and Open Channel Solutions. We have created a strong platform and believe that the business is ready to move from a transformational phase to a growth phase.”

This release contains forward-looking statements, which address a variety of subjects including, for example, expected future growth, the further execution of the Company’s strategic business plan and impact of that plan, prospects for growth, the expected impact of strategic initiatives and financial performance, the expected benefits and impact of the OCS and PTS transactions and the expansion of capabilities expected to occur as a result of the transactions. All statements other than statements of historical fact, including without limitation, those with respect to the Company’s goals, plans, expectations and strategies set forth herein are forward-looking statements. The following important factors and uncertainties, among others, could cause actual results to differ materially from those described in these forward-looking statements: the Company’s success, including its ability to improve its cash position, expand its operations and revenue, lower its costs, improve its gross margins, sustain profitability, reach its long-term objectives and operate optimally, depends on its ability to execute on its business strategy and the continued and increased demand for and market acceptance of its services; global economic conditions, especially in the technology sector are uncertain and subject to volatility; demand for our clients’ products may decline or may not achieve the levels anticipated by our clients; the Company's management may face strain on managerial and operational resources as they try to oversee the expanded operations; the Company may not be able to expand its operations in accordance with its business strategy; the Company’s cash balances may not be sufficient to allow the Company to meet all of its business and investment goals; the Company may experience difficulties integrating technologies, operations and personnel in accordance with its business strategy; the Company derives a significant portion of its revenue from a small number of customers and the loss of any of those customers could significantly damage the Company’s financial condition and results of operations; the Company frequently sells to its supply chain management clients on a purchase order basis rather than pursuant to contracts with minimum purchase requirements, and therefore its sales and the amount of projected revenue that is actually realized are subject to demand variability; risks inherent with conducting international operations; and increased competition and technological changes in the markets in which the Company competes. For a detailed discussion of cautionary statements that may affect the Company’s future results of operations and financial results, please refer to the Company's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, including the Company's most recent Annual Report on Form 10-K and Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q. CMGI another confirmed breakout from the list!
CMGI $14.39 been watching it go
slowly up.
lol, this morning was exciting and very profitable, but after a nice lunch I come back bored. lol I guess I better get some work done. Goooooooooooo CMGI.
why today is an exciting day
no time for boredom!
Ok, just got back and kinda bored.
LOL sure looks like it bubba!
Is this stock a good one?
Ho! Ho! Ho! maybe we will continue the climb for a CMGI Christmas Rally!!!!
There was no rythm or reason to it, other than a gigantic bull market in dot com and tele com issues
those forward splits ballooned the float from a tiny fraction of what it originally
swelled to 400 million, I think. But then CMGI was a tiny small float NASDAQer before all that splitting.
Yahoo probably has over a billion, as does Amazon, in floating stock.
Yep, I had a few of those splits and was like "wow" what the heck is going on. lol
yeah, if you pull up something like a 10 year or longer graph (not every site goes much over 10 years these days), CMGI was like, just another sleepy NASDAQ company that did a few thousands volume a day. I guess about 97-98 it "did something"
David Wetherell was portrayed as a visionary two years later. Had his head photo on magazines, most of which were newly formed during the dot com boom
Wired and Business 2.0 still exist but they're not nearly as thick as phone books as they were then.
The letters actually meant something from the days before it evolved into a "dot com incubator"
Now they mean whatever they mean.
Company's board split its shares about 4 or 5 times between 1999 and 2001, I think.
She reverse split on us. It ain't near the same stock it was back in the good old days. lol When I first bought cmgi I could find nobody that knew who they were or what they did. I read about it in some magazine as the coming thing and thought what the heck and bought some. It didn't do much for several months and then boom the rest was history.
that answers it
figured it was a reverse split (after all these years)
quite a ride before the top when there was no longer a greater fool to pay a higher price
but the same could be said for thousands of other issues going back to the beginning of the 20th century, much less the dot com boom era
what the hell is going with cmgi
I used to work for Raging Bull, which was owned, sort of, by cmgi during the dot com boom
I was the original Herd on the Boards columnist.
I don't miss it...
tout de swing
Monksdream
Nice earnings but a lot of bagholders getting out or hoping it goes higher. Its ok if you bought last week but it needs $20.00 too make most happy.
would have been nice to have had some of those shares!
