Miss Johnny Cash. So many songs so full of life.
The first time that Johnny Cash performed the song on national television the network didn't want him to use the line - "Wishing I was stoned."
Johnny Cash sang the song the way that Kris wrote it.

Living on the road my friend
Was gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron
Your breath's as hard as kerosene
By Townes Van Zandt from Pancho and Lefty
Townes died on 1-1-97 from complications of acute alcoholism. I didn't know who Townes was the day he died but it is also the day that I quit smoking.
Pancho and Lefty was written in the early 1970s. I'm not sure if Townes realized when he wrote the song how much of a struggle his own life would turn out to be. But, the first four lines may be his best epithet.
May Townes rest in peace,
Bob
GET IN THE BOAT
By: Tom T. Hall
Last line of the chorus. LOL!
IF YOU CAN'T WALK ON WATER
THEN YOU BETTER GET IN THE BOAT
The whole song...........
VERSE 1: JESUS GAVE THE BLIND MAN BACK HIS SIGHT
JESUS TURNED THE WATER INTO WINE
WE ARE JUST HIS CHILDREN, LOST WITHOUT HIS GRACE
BOYS AND GIRLS YOU BETTER GET IN YOUR PLACE
VERSE 2: THEY TOOK HIM AND THEY NAILED HIM TO A CROSS
HE GAVE HIS LIFE SO WE WOULD NOT BE LOST
THE DEVIL STIRS THE WATER AND WE MUST SINK OR SWIM
JESUS IS THE BOAT, SO GET ON IN
VERSE 3: YOU KNOW JESUS MULTIPLIED THE LOAVES
HE MULTIPLIED THE FISHES WE'VE BEEN TOLD
HE MULTIPLIED OUR BLESSINGS AND TOOK AWAY OUR SINS
JESUS IS THE BOAT AND YOU BETTER GET IN
CHORUS: GET IN THE BOAT - GET IN THE BOAT
STRAIGHTEN UP AND WALK THE NARROW WAY
BETTER READ YOUR BIBLE, BELIEVE THE WORDS HE WROTE
IF YOU CAN'T WALK ON WATER
THEN YOU BETTER GET IN THE BOAT
I hear you there. I've tried myself a few times. No go. LOL!
excel - I just admire the heck out of folks who can string together ordinary words .......... in an extraordinary way.
GP. Thanks! Great lyrics with some moving messages!
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Life is not tried, it is merely survived
If you're standing outside the fire

And he said: "Some day, I hope you get the chance,
To live like you were dying."

Live like you Were Dying
This whole song is 'unique' ... and I think some of the best-turned phrases in any song ever written.
As recorded by Josh Turner
"Would you go with me"
Would you go with me if we rolled down streets of fire
Would you hold on to me tighter as the summer sun got higher
If we roll from town to town and never shut it down
Would you go with me if we were lost in fields of clover
Would we walk even closer until the trip was over
And would it be okay if I didn't know the way
If I gave you my hand would you take it
And make me the happiest man in the world
If I told you my heart couldn't beat one more minute without you, girl
Would you accompany me to the edge of the sea
Let me know if you're really a dream
I love you so, so would you go with me
Would you go with me if we rode the clouds together
Could you not look down forever
If you were lighter than a feather
Oh, and if I set you free, would you go with me
If I gave you my hand would you take it
And make me the happiest man in the world
If I told you my heart couldn't beat one more minute without you, girl
Would you accompany me to the edge of the sea
Help me tie up the ends of a dream
I gotta know, would you go with me
I love you so, so would you go with me
Here's one I thought was pretty good ...
And I love you like all little children love pennies
And I love you like good times of which I’ve known many
And I love you ‘cause I know you give me a heart of my own
You make my blood flow
Like red on a rose
Alan Jackson
Red on a Rose
There's another kind of poverty
That only rich men know
A moral malnutrition
That starves their very souls
And they can't be saved by money
They're all running out of time
And all the while they're thinking,
"It's OK, 'cause I've got mine"
Glen Fry - I got mine
How true............
Nobody’s permanent
Everything’s on loan here
From the Pretenders. Time Avenger.
The measure of a man is one who lends a hand.
Vince Gill
No matter what you make, all that you can take, is what you give away.

River Of Dreams
You know people don't run out of dreams
People just run out of time
From John Couger. So very true.............
Minutes to Memories
He fell asleep with his head against the window
He said an honest man’s pillow is his peace of mind
This world offers riches and riches will grow wings
I don’t take stock in those uncertain things
The song is called "American Dream".
This gospel band NAILS it so well in a lot of area's.
From the corporate ladder to falling off the family ladder of stepping up being the Father for his kids to losing his soul all for the......."American Dream"!
In bold are the lyrics that really stand out to me.
Lyrics by Mark Hall
Music by Casting Crowns
Song based on Mark 8:34-37 and Ephesians 5:25-33
All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy
But all work no God has left Jack with a lost soul
But he's moving on full steam
He's chasing the American dream
And he's gonna give his family the finer things
Not this time son I've no time to waste
Maybe tomorrow we'll have time to play
And then he slips into his new BMW
And drives farther and farther and farther away
So He works all day and tries to sleep at night
He says things will get better;
It’ll just take a little more time
He used to say, “Whoever dies with the most toys wins”
But if he loses his soul, what has he gained in the end
I’ll take a shack on the rock
Over a castle in the sand
Now he works all day and cries alone at night
It’s not getting any better
Looks like he’s running out of time
‘Cause he worked and he built with his own two hands
And he poured all he had in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are coming crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands
All they really wanted was You
Title : Man in Black
Artist : Johnny Cash
Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.
Johnny Cash lives on!
Title : Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow)
Artist : John Prine
You can gaze out the window get mad and get madder,
Throw your hands in the air, say "What does it matter?"
But it don't do no good to get angry,
So help me I know
For a heart stained in anger grows weak and grows bitter.
You become your own prisoner as you watch yourself sit there
Wrapped up in a trap of your very own
Chain of sorrow.
So many people become prisoners in their own world as he also became one for a while.
Title : That's The Way That The World Goes 'round
Artist : John Prine
That's the way that the world goes 'round.
You're up one day and the next you're down.
It's half an inch of water and you think you're gonna drown.
That's the way that the world goes 'round.
Eric Claptons version of Tore Down by Sonny Thompson.
I went to the river to jump in.
My baby showed up and said, "I will tell you when."
NOW that's just plain WRONG! LOL!
If you have never heard Diana Krall sing you haven't lived imo.
When she does this song her voice is so clear and beautiful it's unreal. First time I saw her sing is when she did this song in a movie I was watching.
Title : Why Should I Care?
Artist : Diana Krall
Was there something more I could have done?
Or was I not meant to be the one?
Where's the life I thought we would share?
And should I care?
One of my favorite Boston songs. Peace Of Mind!
Now everybody's got advice they just keep on giving.
Doesn't mean too much to me.
Lots of people have to make-believe they're living,
Can't decide who they should be.
Mary Chapin Carpenter the song called The Bug!
That's life as we know it! LOL!
Sometimes you're the windshield
Sometimes you're the bug
From Travis. Love Long Gone song. How sad is this.
He has a way of putting it out there........
Love may be gone but never forgotten
The memory won't leave you alone
And the train may be long gone from the station
But you still hear the whistle moan.
Still hear the whistle moan.
This cracked me up when I heard this from Travis.
What a great way to express the pain. ART! LOL!
Seems to me every woman I meet
Has leavin' down to an art
Oh, Lord have a little bit of pity
On my poor old heart.
Artist - Travis Randy
Love this line from the song Pick up the oars and roll song.
How many lyrics have you heard expressing ways to move on after love lost? I thought this was unique way of putting it..
Sometimes love is a river of tears so pick up the oars and row
Same song.......
I remember being at Grandma's and her frying chicken long ago when things were much more simple in life..........
Then I crossed the empty street,
'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken.
And it took me back to somethin',
That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way.
Another part of song like the above with the same theme.........
Then I headed back for home,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'.
And it echoed through the canyons,
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.
From the same song. I love this line!
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes,
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
This is from Kris Kristofferson. If you have partied sometime in your life's journey you can certainly remember this. LOL!
Song Title - Sunday Morning Coming Down
Well I woke up Sunday morning,
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Did you hear a line in a song that makes you smile?
Bring back a memory of years gone by?
One that you think is clever?
A line that makes you think or shares what is on your heart?
I listen to a lot of different types of music.
Everything from Gospel to Rock & Roll!
It be cool if after placing the line in a post you comment on why you like it or if it just brings back memories or what ever that floats your boat.
If you have to post a whole verse that's cool as sometimes it's necessary in order for the line that grabs you makes sense to the rest of us. Might want to put in bold the line in verse.
This is not a place for whole songs.
Keep it clean.
I hope this is a place writers can come to be inspired by others as well as people enjoy the universal language of music!
