Living on the road my friend
Was gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron
Your breath's as hard as kerosene

By Townes Van Zandt from Pancho and Lefty

Townes died on 1-1-97 from complications of acute alcoholism. I didn't know who Townes was the day he died but it is also the day that I quit smoking.

Pancho and Lefty was written in the early 1970s. I'm not sure if Townes realized when he wrote the song how much of a struggle his own life would turn out to be. But, the first four lines may be his best epithet.

May Townes rest in peace,
Bob
