Sure. The estimate has a 95% confidence interval of +- 120K.
Seasonal adjustments and all, what's not to believe?
I am so pissed ...

Good man ...
"Do NOT, we RE-Peat, DO NOT fall in Love with the BOUNCE!! "
sigh ... tomorrow is another day.
just happen to have a Corsair hx850 awaiting more money for a new build. From new build part to spare part ...
thanks all,
rr
Thank you for the response.
The video card is fanless, and does not, to my spatially challenged ears, be associated with the sound.
I'm guessing the PS is pissed at the load being pulled, but I REALLY don't want to replace the PS needlessly. That's a few hours careful work ...
Any more?
rr
Love the graphic. I'm in the low carb / all fat all the time diet camp. I buy crumbled bacon in the food service bags ...
Nope, not the CPU fan. The cooler's a Zalman copper flower of some vintage. Dirty, yes, but turning at a relative low rate, constantly.
Got any more?
rr
Here's a hardware curiosity ...
My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3/S3, year and a half or two old. PS is a Corsair 550W, Core 2 Duo, 4GB, 1 Intel 80GB SSD, a WD Black 1TB drive, fanless Radeon HD 4670, 2 19" LCD monitors.
Runs great. Makes odd buzzing sounds.
Whenever the machine is busy - task manager CPU indicator is >60%, or lots of I/O (music + streaming data for trading system), or Picassa chewing thru pictures looking for faces, or all of that stuff at the same time - there is a buzzing sound from the inside of the case.
When the load goes away, the buzzing stops.
Any theories? Ideas welcome.
Thanks,
rr
LOL ... NM trashes TA, but he still needs to pick levels for long/short buys/sells.

Microsoft Security Essentials news

"Minimum wage usually."
Which, I must add, is more than we get here !!!
Don't care. My HX-850W showed up today. I'm happy.
Merry Christmas !!!!!!
I'm thinking that I'm out of luck.
Been thru search engines, various books on Windows, here, my techy friends, and haven't even a useful hint.
Thanks,

How do I tell the OS which is which?
Hey, how about a technical question ...
Some mobo's have two ethernet ports. Is there any way I can exploit that to get effectively more thruput thru my machine?
I'm thinking I connect two cables to the 2 ethernet ports and 2 ports on my gigabit switch, and windows will give me 2 ip addresses via DHCP. How do I use them both?
Thx, and Merry Christmas.

LOL - I had something more mathematical / no volatility in mind.
That face wants to eat and sleep indoors, it's got to trade ...

I'm looking for an "It's stupid to trade - don't even try" indicator.
Anybody got one?

What are your thoughts on the SSD?
My thoughts ... I've run single drive, and dual/RAID, Raptors as boot drives, and I currently have an Intel 80GB G2 SSD.
I prefer the SSD, hands down, no question.
Everything feels faster. The big pig programs - Excel, Word - load so fast, you'll stop thinking of them as big pig programs. What actually happens is that they need to load a whole shipload of DLL's, and SSD's simply excel at that.
The apps that I use - FireFox, MediaMonkey, Excel, Word, NotePad, Thunderbird, ThinkOrSwim, IrfanView, Picassa - generally load at the mouse click - click on the task bar in Win 7 to start the app, and as you listen to the mouse button click, you can watch the window open.
I'm reasonably convinced that I'm I/O bound again - cable modem is too slow (roadRunner and the WWW), webCam's just destroy system responsiveness (Intel's chip sets and USB support), I need more glass for monitors for trading (long story). But the disk speed is just not relevant anymore.
Of the 74.5GB, I've got 46.0GB free. I've updated the firmware, enabling TRIM. I've set the 'cleaner' tool to run every day.
Highly, highly recommended.

Bruce,
Nice rig. Wish I had cash in hand to build my next one.
I'm thinking about the Premium board for usb3/sata6. Might give the system a bit more longevity.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131614
Sapphire 5750's are popular. Got any insight into the vapor-x cooling version?
I've got an Intel G2 80GB SSD and a WD 1TB Black now. If I had to duplicate it, I'd use a Green instead of the Black. But SSD's for boot/app drives. Once there, never back.
Good work. Can't wait to see the numbers.

Bruce,
Friend of mine with viral issue tells me to pass along her most grateful thanks.
Ran a long time, rebooted a bunch, and shazam, all gone.
I thank you too. This board is a valuable resource for me, and countless others. In large part, because of you. And others
Merry Christmas,

Thanks. I passed the link along. If I get any feedback, I'll post it.

Friend has a malware problem ...
What I know ...
I have a virus on my home computer and I can't get to FB or email. The viruses are Advanced Virus Remover and Personal Protector. I think I've killed AVR, but can't figure out how PP replaces the executable everytime I kill it, nor how it repopulates the registry.
I was able to download it [rr: malwarebytes] but the executable to install it wouldn't run. I then downloaded and ran setup on a thumbdrive, installing it on the thumbdrive, and tried to run it from there. It wouldn't run.
Any suggestions? Thanks,

USB 3.0 benchmarking on ASUS Premium P55 board
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1150/1/
Micron has a blog, and on the blog there is this post E I E I O ...
http://www.micronblogs.com/2009/12/benchmarking-c300/
Tells you lots about their fast SSD.
rr
The review / benchmark work I've seen - don't recall where - said "nope, not much difference at all".
There's always some corner case - multithreaded video en/de code kinda stuff - where memory bandwidth makes a big difference. Those aren't what I do.
I think multithreading is still young in most apps I use, and the lack of multiple core support keeps the memory bandwidth problem minor. Windows 8, and better dev tools, will help, but that's a ways off.
The boards use 2 not 3 channels for memory because, first, IIRC the memory controller in non-original i7 chips, and lower, only take 2 channels, and second, 2 is cheaper than 3, allowing these boards to go 'mainstream', and 3, it takes less memory to populate the system, lowering the cost.
The I/O on these things still sucks anyhow, and they're still the system bottleneck. Cable modem crawls ...
Just my opinion. I could be, and have been, wrong.
Merry Christmas,
rr
I have not yet built a system with this board. It's on my wish list.
I'm hoping newegg puts the stuff on it on sale sometime between now and Christmas. Or, I have a $10K positive gross week trading. Then I'll buy it on the spot.
Good luck to me.
rr
I was following the Micron SSD story as well, and fell out of love when it said first quarter of 2010.
OTOH, I am in love with this ASUS board

Denon.
But, I think he was just trying to sell you another box.
Good luck finding 7.1 worthy material to view / play.
Unless you have a reason to replace the receiver, don't.
IMHO. ICBW. YMMV.
And, you have to put up with the 'security updates' because there's only so much stuff they can find, fix, and harden at once.
Honest, this software stuff is hard. Even for Borg like Mr/ Softie employees. Maybe worse.
Frankly, I am routinely amazed that it works at all.
Best regards,
rr
Same thing I did, sir. No issues whatsoever.

Microsoft has a vested interest in limiting infection vectors. Most people who buy PC's are, delicately, too farking stupid for their own good, and won't spend a dime to protect the machine.
Free helps with the Microsoft problem.

Decade or so. Need to work off the debt and lack of value creating economy. Best bet is alternative energy and corresponding infrastructure.
IMHO. ICBW. Probably.
Bruce,
Great report. Thanks for the link.

Microsoft Security Essentials user since day 0 ...
Yep, that's the one I'm looking at too.
Now, all I need is a +$10K week on /ES, and I buy it !!!
Lord, give me strength.
Thanks,

Why P55: Because in only marginal circumstances does 3 channel beat 2 channel memory; because mainstream Intel is P55, and some year, I might get lucky; because the performance difference are marginal, are the price differences might buy me a monitor.
Seriously, for a few hundred less bucks, I get almost all the bang.
At least, that's what's running thru my Blue Moon soaked head.
rr
Budget: I'll need a complete system (cpu, memory, mobo, case, PS, video cards). P55 = prolly 860/70, memory=8GB, case is whatever's quiet, PS looks like corsair HX850, video isn't for gaming, unless you consider trading /ES gaming 5750x2, prolly.
Mobo needs to support all that. I do not care about OC'ing, but I care A LOT about reliability.
Figuring the mobo will cost $150-$225. That covers most of the P55 mobo's I've looked at.
Upgrading: I do not expect to EVER upgrade anything.
That enuf info?
rr
Hi Bruce,
Do you have a preferred mobo for Win 7 64 bit, 2 video cards, Intel P55?
Thinking about my next 4 monitor trading system ...
Thanks,

thanks. still cooking. Nocona/NERS buys too ...

In a previous life we referred to this sort of thing as a PICNIC - problem in chair, not in computer. It happens to everyone LOL ...
As far as I know, the images last 'up there' forever. I occasionally clean some of mine out, just because ...
I've no indication that there's an image lifetime limit. YMMV ...
Glad it's working for you. But, now, do it again, to make sure.
