Move Up/Down Using Consistency Standings (In % Terms)
Now this shows who was Positively/Negatively affected in % Terms by using consistency standing. Anyways Congrats to PATTYDADY0 he was the most positively affected in % Terms by consistency standings. By the way PATTYDADY0 was also the most positively affected last year. He was also the most positively affected last year in position terms, and came in second this year. He is starting to show a trend of major improved results when we look at this from a consistency perspective. Probably doesn't mean anything statistically significant, but thought it was a interesting stat nonetheless. Hope This Helps.

Mr. Consistency Standings
The Methodology: I provided a Mr. Consistency stat in VMC PSL 1, but couldn't do it in contest 2 + 3 due to trades. Anyway I found a new way to handle the situation in VMC PSL 4, 5, 6 and beyond. Yes it it a different calculation then the one used in VMC PSL 1, but I still believe it shows a consistent stock picker, hence I'm going to call it Mr. Consistency standings.
Now first it is important to recognize that we start out with 6 position and end with 6 position. We may not have 6 different stocks in the portfolio, or the same 6 stocks we started with, but we still have 6 different positions.
From A calculation standpoint, we Take out the top performing and Worst Performing position of each person's PSL. We then Average the other 4 and we get an answer. I'm not going to bore anyone with the math behind it as it is very boring. But I believe this should give you a good idea of what I've done.
As you can see from a consistency standpoint. WADEGARRET was up 34.13% using the consistency standings. So congrats to WADEGARRET he is Mr. Consistency. There are 35/90 portfolios in positive territory using this stat instead of 43/90 the way we look at it to get a VMC PSL Champion. Well anyways I hope everyone enjoys this, I put a lot a work into this one, but I feel it is worth it.

Congrats for the win niles!
Thanks for the work SSK/LEN.
Although I really don't pay much attention to the contest after it starts, I have found it makes me focus on picking stocks for my own portfolio and getting rid of the crap and keeping the winners. I was lucky this time in only owning 3 of my picks during the contest and 2 out of the 3 were up.
WOW, I won something by accident again. First it was the March Madness, now the PSL 6 individual bracket contest. I would rather be Niles. Congrates Niles, I am upset I did not even make the top 10. Anyway, maybe I should go by a Lotto ticket. Thanks, Len, as always for your hard work on many fronts.

I should note, I was really in the pressure cooker this last week! The Chinese wave of attention due to the Hong Kong thing, AEY going Nasdaq, Concord putting out a PR. Finally, on the last day, Bush and Bernake give the market a pep talk. It was almost too much to take! AEY, in particular, was putting the pressure on. I own a lot of it, but I was worried on Friday that it would go to far. When SSK said he had sold, I was really sure it would take off :)
This contest does strange things to one's mind!
Thanks to SSK and Len for running the show!
Yeilddude, Thanks!
I don't know about Vandy winning the SEC. They did get Brandt Snedecker to win a golf tournament a couple weeks back, and that may be all that 35% buys :)
SSK: thanks for all the hard work ! It's interesting to see all those statistics.
Niles, Congrats! ...
Maybe this is an omen Vandy will win the SEC this year?

Wild Card versus Non Wild Card:
One more way to look at the question of flight to quality besides (DOW vs VMI/R) or ($5> stocks vs <$5) is to look at the (wild card vs non wild card).
SSK began keeping this stat in PSL3. In each contest the non wild card index out performed the wild card index, however in the two "bad" markets (last summer and this), the wild card index got hammered by the non wild card index. Non WC WC DIFF

SSK:
"Not surprising that in general higher price stocks do better in a more negative stock environment."
Exactly. That was the other point I forgot to make. On average, the higher the priced stock (up to $30 or so), the more secure or stable. The higher priced stocks would imply a flight to quality.

It's also important to note that the 10+ stock performed the best in VMC PSL 3 and 6. VMC PSL 3 and 6 were by far the worst performance contests of the 6. Not surprising that in general higher price stocks do better in a more negative stock environment. Just my opinion.
People Who Had All 6 Units Positive
Commentary: Nobody had all 6 units positive. There were several 5 units with 1 unit close, but that ain't close enough. This is the first VMC PSL contest where nobody had all 6 units positive. Hope this helps.
VMC PSL 6 Indexes
Commentary: We have numerous indexes to present this contest. So without further ado let me give a brief explanation of them. The The Top 28 Index is made up of all stock being picked at least 5 times in the contest, this index is equally weighted. The Top 261 Index, is also equally weighted, and measures the average performance of all the stocks picked in this contest (Our stock universe). The Average Portfolio Return, measure the average performance of the 88 portfolios. These indexes or averages should be familiar to everyone, as I have presented these in past contest(s).
Other indexes to be presented: Average Wildcard Index this index measures the average performance of the 37 wildcards chosen in the contest, this index is equally weighted. Average Non Wildcard Index This index measures the average performance of the 224 non-wildcard entries, and this index is also equally weighted as well. Average Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What This basically means is there are 58 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stock only have 1 unit, but a stock like TRGD.PK has 5 units because it was picked 5 times in the contest. Average Non Wildcard Index (Weighted Average) this index only difference from the Average Non Wildcard Index is this index uses a weighted average approach. What this basically means is there are 470 units in this portfolio, obviously the majority of stock only have 1 unit, but a stock like CAGC.OB is weighted much more heavily and has 10 units because it was picked 10 times in the contest. Next, we get to the Average Portfolio (Original) the only difference between this index and the average portfolio return is it excludes the impact of transactions, meaning if no one could make transactions (Which is obviously not the case) this would be the average portfolio return. Finally, the Champions Index is an index that carries the 30 positions weighted equally of the 5 previous PSL Champions. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask, and I will answer them to the best of my ability. Hope you enjoy the info.
Top 28 Index: +1.03%

$5.00 line of demarcation:
PSL6 results added strong support to the argument that there is something pivotal about $5.00. I discussed this on VMC a month ago along with another following post or two.

KIK:
"Also, if not for the $5000 or bust rule, CGRH would have been in my PSL6."
I don't know if it failed the rule or not, but if so, then THANK GOD for the $5000 or bust rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How about this?
"Even if a person with CGRH were in last place coming into the last hour of trading in the contest, they would have won by a mile. Talk about invalidating and bastardizing the contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How did stocks do for the Six contests by there purchase price.
This is a collective look of the Six contests results merged together.
$.20-.99 Purchase Price
$1.00-2.99 Purchase Price
$3.00-4.99 Purchase Price
$5.00-9.99 Purchase Price
$10+ Purchase Price
Number Of Stocks in each group
$.20-.99 Purchase Price:320
$1.00-2.99 Purchase Price:435
$3.00-4.99 Purchase Price:200
$5.00-9.99 Purchase Price:235
$10+ Purchase Price: 302
% Gain For Each Group
$.20-.99 Purchase Price: +10.94%
$1.00-2.99 Purchase Price:+6.39%
$3.00-4.99 Purchase Price:+4.10%
$5.00-9.99 Purchase Price:+14.89%
$10+ Purchase Price: +8.69%
Commentary: As we can see if we look at the Six contests the $5.00-9.99 Purchase Price stocks are doing the best, and the $3.00-4.99 stocks have done the worst by a country mile. In My Opinion, this will be very interesting to see if the trends continue after numerous contests, although it might not mean much I still like the info. And I hope everyone else likes it too.
How about if CGRHE didn't go up 333% today?!
Your "Bench" would've been well back in the pak....or PRC.
Also, if not for the $5000 or bust rule, CGRH would have been in my PSL6.
How stocks did in Purchase Price groups? I put it into 5 groups as you can see below.
$.25-.99 Purchase Price
$1.00-2.99 Purchase Price
$3.00-4.99 Purchase Price
$5.00-9.99 Purchase Price
$10+ Puchase Price
Number Of Stocks in each group
$.25-.99 Purchase Price:53
$1.00-2.99 Purchase Price:80
$3.00-4.99 Purchase Price:27
$5.00-9.99 Purchase Price:40
$10+ Puchase Price: 61
% Loss For Each Group
$.25-.99 Purchase Price: -11.09%
$1.00-2.99 Purchase Price:-14.74%
$3.00-4.99 Purchase Price:-10.28%
$5.00-9.99 Purchase Price:+0.97%
$10+ Puchase Price: +3.76%
So as we can see the $10+ stocks had the best Performance +3.76%, and the $1.00-2.99 did the worst up -14.74%. As you can see this contest the higher the purchase price the better the return was in general. Hope everyone enjoys the info.
Trade Usage (VMC PSL 3-4-5-6)
Trade Usage Per Each contest
VMC PSL 3 40.15%
VMC PSL 4 53.73%
VMC PSL 5 40.99% (48.66% adjusted for extra trade)
VMC PSL 6 44.32% (51.14% adjusted fo extra trade)
Commentary: As we can see trade usage rose from VMC PSL 5. Still even accounting for adjustments, trade usage although high, wasn't not as high as VMC PSL 4 where trade usage peaked. If I had to guess Trade usage will increase in upcoming VMC PSL Contest in my opinion. Hope this helps.

AND THE WINNER IS....
... Lentinman's PSL6 "Bench" (+65.18%)!!!
"There were 12 stocks that would have been ok to pick. The other six that I did not pick were also early alphabetters: ADY, BBCZ, CBAK, CGRH, CHME, CIWT. That will be my PSL6 "Bench". I'll be interested to see where they end up at the end."

CXTI didn't post earning. I'm aiming for last (better last than second last). I was in second to last last week.
Reminded me of Taladega nights quote.. if you ain't first.. you're last... lol..
Diversification definitely helps. with 6 stocks (well 3 for me because CXTI is doubled down. 33% of portfolio in PSL), if one goes to $0.. the impact is still huge.. but with 15-20 stocks it gets better (I usually hold 17-20 stocks in my porfolio though the top 5 make up more than 50% of my porfolio)

Actually NJ, Feeling a little better, but nowhere near 100% and still going to doctors, they are still lost with knowing what the heck is wrong with me.
You must live in Florida? LOL.
Hope you are feeling better!
True, but did you here that the voting process is rigged. All answers whether Yes or No. Come out that I don't do it. Who said the voting process was fair? LOL.
SSK:
ie sluffer. Theoretically, you could go back and reproduced them all since you can get the daily prices of all the stocks. I say you do it.
Do I hear a second.
Len
We just want you to announce the daily winners since mid-July...:)
I'll get them to you in the year 2017 LOL. Honestly since I stopped daily statistics I don't have the #'s so I can't produce those stats.
nsom, you have one little flaw in your plan...
You need 23.28%. It is el sheepo who needs 22.67%.
20 MR.SHEEP 22.67%
21 NSOMNIYAK 23.28%
actually, no one cares about that.
We just want you to announce the daily winners since mid-July...:)
Speaking spreadsheet work. Thankfully I have a 3 day weekend. This is great Not only do I have all my friday stats. I have the VMIR rebalancing, plus all the addition stats I calculate at the end of VMC PSL 6. If I were a stock wouldn't you love my backlog at the moment. LOL.
Last stretch. All the best everyone. and have a good long weekend!
Stan
Best Post of the Year!
Or at least Best Post of 8/30!
Nsom:
Classic! Now, that is how you are going to win the overall championship.
But, what is your plan on how to win the KIK contest??? Your pick was +200%.

Stanu, good luck...How to figure any of these looks harder by the day...They could have a master plan that will result in a higher more stable share price when the dust settles...perhaps...LJ
JFF7... Thanks, but it's not won yet. I can almost guarantee the market will be up 200 points plus tomorrow to make me sweat :)
OK--22.67% (going into this week) huh?
No problem.
Here's my plan:
DPDW - fights the month-end downward draft and announces a deal to provide all sub-sea vehicles to XOM in the Gulf for a period of 3 years. Stock struggles through early selling to close up 27%
EGMI - Harrah's announces a single-source deal for EGMI to deliver in-room electronic game cards. Stock rises 25% and change.
DIGF - someone notices that it exists, and also happens to be paranoid about being hit between the eyes with a missile, which does not explode (but that does not help you much if it hits you between the eyes!). This guy digs deep into the cushions on his couch, comes up with a couple hundred bucks (look--if you are worried about whether the Niners cover tonight, you find quarters in your cushions. Guys who worry about missiles hitting them between the eyes, however, are top-shelf, finding a couple long-forgotten saw-bucks is not that unlikely. Trust me on this one. I have been assured it is true) and chases DIGF all the way up to a $2 close. About 25%--book it, Dano.
PTSC - Following up on Wednesday's announcement of a mega-deal with LEGO, on Friday, PTSC will announce a massive licensing agreement with...McDonald's. Turns out Mickie-D's has been embedding microchips in every burger--billions and billions sold. They have been selling the tracking data to Google, so GOOG is a co-defendant. Ronald McDonald is scheduled to testify in Texas just after the Hamburgler. TPL, with typical understatement, announces that this is just the beginning of patent actions in the restaurant vertical, thanks Mickie-Ds for their endorsement of the patent portfolio and announces that subsequent licensees in that vertical won't get discounts. Stock advances 30%! In a throw-away line at the bottom of the PR, Mickie-D's announces a new strategic sourcing agreement that will significantly reduce the cost of their burgers (no price decrease foreseen). MCD investors are excited, and start digging on the internet to try to identify the mystery partner, but PTSC investors yawn and really don't care. Another day, another dollar, another licensee. PTSC holders drank the Kool-Aid long ago.
ICTL - After months of hush-hush market testing, ICTL takes out 24 solid hours on the Shopping Network, with cross-promotion luring housewives fed up with ESPN's college football marathon. They wow 'em with a slick new infomercial that shows everyone that Derma-Wand can remove the wrinkles that appear in your husband's tummy after he watches college football for 14 straight hours. Men and women across the nation rejoice, uncounted marriages are saved, Derma-Wand sets all-time sales records and ICTL races forward, up 40% intraday and settling to an acceptable +28%.
GRGR - Now it is up to GRGR, despite the brutal spread. GRGR investors are worn out, and dare not hope. They are Waiting For Godot. He either will come, or he won't. What sparse message board traffic there is relates largely to the meaning of life, whether a leaf really makes a sound when it falls and no one is there to hear it, and whether to get 'roni and 'rooms or Hawaiian on tonight's pizza. An anxious nsom looks on--we need a miracle here. A close on the bid is a 15% hit! We need a gain, but deep in his heart nsom knows that GRGR will be hard-pressed to close unchanged on the ask on the last day of the month. Returning to his screen after lunch ('roni and 'rooms), nsom realizes that, given the way his other PSL6 stocks have jumped (see above), and the fact that GRGR, having depreciated from its PSL6 starting value while a couple others went up, does not represent an equal share of the portfolio, maybe even a close on the ask will do it! Nsom readies a 100 share buy order at .20. Then, at 2:38 EDT, the news hits! GRGR comes out with a totally unexpected press release, announcing a major new market for their wood chips! A whole new distribution channel that might be expanded worldwide, involving a close partnership and sole-supply agreement with a MAJOR Fortune 500 company--a top-tier household name! Message board posters scramble into action, and eventually an awkwardly parsed Google search reveals...that GRGR will be supplying wood ships to McDonalds! As much as they can send, for the next 10 years! GRGR rallies to .30, a 50% gain, and nsom quietly cancels his 100 share order (and enters a sell all instead). Despite the relative obscurity of GRGR, it somehow rallies to close up 19.8726345245%, Cross-over buying from MCD shareholders is credited for the move.
SSK spends 3 days refining his spreadsheets, and nsom is declared THE WINNER!
It could happen!
Lj, some people mentioned that they talked to the CEO and the CEO said that they are not ready to publish the earning report and he also mentioned that the previous CFO is not contactable anymore. not a good sign. I'm still holding (or I should say, gambling)
the 5 day grace period seems to be standard. everyone who are going to delay the file will file that 5 day extension regardless theya re going to make it in that 5 days or not
what makes me sick is that JLF asset management continue to sell even at $2.77 (and took loss). and they still have 4.7M shares left. I don't know what their strategy is.
Next time I heard the CFO left, I will just sell right away. I'm guessing whatever restatement that they might do, they will blame it to the previous CFO. and oh btw, the COO also left a month ago. Surprised to see that the CEO hasn't leave yet.
Long and strong..
Stan
tomorrow. Congrats Niles!
