NHS returns slowly...April CCG's complete GP hold purse strings.
Statement from Chairman and Chief Executive
A key milestone for the Company was reached via the investment in Ultrasis by an existing significant shareholder, Mr Paul Bell, which was announced on 29 January 2013 and which made available up to £2.85m through a combination of both new equity (£0.5m) and debt (£2.35m) facilities. This investment provides the Company with medium term financial security during difficult times, allowing the management team to focus on business development, both in the UK and internationally.
The economic climate remains very tough and particularly challenging in our core market, the UK's NHS. The significant changes to commissioning arrangements under the Health & Social Care Act are now nearing final form, with new CCGs being established and funding arrangements put in place. The NHS Commissioning Board has now authorised CCGs to commission services for their communities in 163 of the 211 CCGs planned to be in place by 1 April 2013.
The incidence of anxiety and depression across the country is continuing to increase and the NHS remains an important area of focus. The emergence of CCGs will provide GPs with a greater opportunity to influence the decision making that delivers outcomes that matter to them and their patients. Recent new contract gains and continued renewals confirm that BtB, as recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, remains an efficacious solution for the treatment of anxiety and depression. BtB remains a world leading low cost solution with direct economic relevance to the NHS.
In North America, USquared Interactive is making solid progress with BtB US. Notable achievements include our first Blue Cross Blue Shield insurer in South Carolina; commencement of three large research projects, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health America, utilising BtB US ; commencement of a pilot with New York State office of Mental Health in a number of primary care clinics; and the successful pilot with the Veterans Association of Michigan. Revenues are starting to build in the US and discussions are advancing with a number of other potential healthcare providers.
Post period end, we were pleased to welcome Mr Daniel Bate to the Board on 14 February 2013. We anticipate Mr Bate's experience of UK capital markets being of significant use to Ultrasis as we seek to grow the business.
Outlook
The NHS market in the UK remains weak, but the Board sees evidence that, as the newly formed Clinical Commissioning Groups begin to take up their responsibilities, some resumption of purchasing activity is taking place and anticipates that this trend will continue.
IAPT: Improving Access to Psychological Therapies CBT...
Are there times when you feel down, sad, lonely, stressed or angry? Everyone experiences these feelings at some point in their lives. For many people these feelings come and go but for some people these feelings continue for a long time. It can seem like you are alone, but you’re not. Many young people experience depression, anxiety and stress but few people talk about it. It’s likely that one of your friends may be feeling a similar way too but they just haven’t told you.
There are many ways to get help with these feelings – this can include counselling or other talking therapies, support from other young people, self-help information or medication. It can be scary to ask for help at first but you won’t be judged. Most people you meet will be really caring and pleased to help you.
One place to get help and support is from your local IAPT service. IAPT stands for Improving Access to Psychological Therapies which is a long complicated way of saying it’s a service that offers counselling and therapy! Some services have different names but essentially they all do the same thing. Most IAPT services in London will see people over the age of 18 and you can simply phone up or email to make your first appointment. Some services ask you to see your GP or doctor first so they can refer you. It can be useful to talk to your doctor or practice nurse first as they can ensure you go to the right place for help. GPs and nurses talk to people who are depressed or anxious all of the time and so won’t judge you.
IAPT: What to expect
At an IAPT service, your first appointment could be face-to-face or over the telephone. The person you’ll speak to will be experienced in helping people with depression and anxiety. They will ask you lots of questions about how you are feeling, how long you have been feeling this way and what might have triggered you to feel like this. It’s useful to tell them as much as possible but don’t worry if it’s difficult, it can be hard to talk about and explain how you feel and they will understand this.
After your first appointment
After your first appointment, you will be offered some options for the type of help you could receive. It could be that you see someone on a weekly basis to talk about and work through some of your difficulties, it could be that you are offered some self-help information to read and use, or you could be invited to attend a group with other people who feel similarly to you. Some groups that run include building confidence, managing your mood, and how to improve your sleep. If you aren’t sure what you want or what you think is best, your therapist can help you to decide.
Remember in most cases, everything you say will be kept confidential. You don’t have to tell anyone you are receiving help although it can be a good idea to tell friends and/or family so they can support you. This can be difficult so your therapist can help you think about how best to tell them if you choose to do so.
My job as an IAPT therapist
I work in an IAPT service in South West London. I help adults of all ages who are struggling with feeling down, depressed, hopeless, anxious, stressed or angry. They may have low self-esteem and low confidence, they may be afraid of starting work, going on public transport, being far from home or being around other people. They may dislike the way they look or think they are weird or useless. Whatever the difficulties, we think together about the best way of improving how they feel. Sometimes I might see someone every week for a few months, sometimes they may see me only once. I offer a type of talking therapy called Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which looks at how changing the way you think and what you do can improve how you feel. Most people find this effective and leave with an improved mood and a better understanding of their problems and how to help themselves.

The DH will press ahead with plans for the largest overhaul of QOF since its inception, scrapping organisational indicators worth around £20,000 per practice and implementing the vast majority of QOF changes proposed by ""NICE.
Practices will still be expected to carry out the work covered by the 'retired' indicators, but will now have to fulfil four new enhanced services to earn back the £164m England-wide that they brought to general practice.

Joining Children and Young People's IAPT Project in 2013-14
The key aim of the Children and Young People's IAPT project is to transform existing services for children and young people by adopting those elements of the IAPT programme which will help improve outcomes for children and young people, providing treatment which is based on best evidence, outcomes focussed and client informed.
In 2013-14 the project will continue to offer training in CBT, Parenting Therapy for 3-10 year olds and service transformation. Local CAMHS partnerships will receive a budget to assist with transformation in their local area. The project is developing new curricula in Inter Personal Therapy for depression in adolescents (IPT-A) and evidence based systemic work with families. Partnerships which join in 2013-14 will be offered the opportunity to send staff on both these training packages in the future, but for the purposes of this application are only sending trainee therapists for CBT and Parenting.

Computerised CBT for mood problems after Stroke
Description:
Working with the community neurorehab teams in Cambridgeshire, PhD student Sara Simblett identified a way of making computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (cCBT) accessible to stroke patients. Gathering small groups of patients and using local library or community village hall facilities, or providing cheap laptops for use in the patient's home, she implemented a trial of the approach. Positive results, and learning from some adverse reactions build on the NICE guidelines for cCBT.

It's been a busy time of late for Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) as they embark upon the first wave of the authorisation process required to transform them into statutory bodies.
At the same time, CCGs are working hard to ensure that they are ready to meet the clinical challenges that lie ahead from April 2013, and are drawing up detailed plans and agreements between commissioners and trusts.

This is 2013, not 1913. We know what the problems are. Twenty-five percent of adults suffer a diagnosable mental disorder each year, and mental health problems affect 20 percent of young people.
Military personnel have the highest rate of suicides in history, and the suicide rate in veterans has passed the civilian population. Millions of people don't have access to the mental health care they need. College-aged shooters are carrying out some of the worst atrocities of our time. Report after report, headline after headline details the endless need for mental health in our nation.
And we don't need to turn on the news to see this pain. We see it in our friends and families. We watch helplessly as someone spirals out of control and lands in a hospital or grave. We do everything we can to get a loved one treatment, medication, therapy or whatever we can to help them. An endless amount of people whisper to others about diagnoses and specifics of behavior they thought they would never have to witness.
We keep repeating patterns of identifying what's wrong and planning to talk about it. I am tired of the talking. Let's take action.
I applaud the recent efforts of Obamacare making mental health treatment more accessible, the Mental Health Parity Act and the White House's plan to train more providers to offer help to young people. However, leaders continuously say there is a need to increase services while ignoring the fact that approximately 66 percent of young people with a mental illness aren't seeking treatment. The dialogue about these issues shouldn't be happening just on Capitol Hill, it should be encouraged to be happening in homes everywhere in the country through powerful outreach campaigns.
