I would like an alert like this: Show me a candle that is longer than any one of the last 6 candles by at least 50% - a filter would allow you to define the # of candles and the % length.
Also, to be able to know where that candle is in relation to a moving average; e.g a certain % above or below that moving average.
candles help..
I tried both of these but dont like the results.
what Im after is to receive alerts when the last 5min candle is 2 or 3x larger than the normal ones.
can this be done some how?

Hi, TI is rolling out some great alerts!!! Is there any way to get these in filters??
marketmark: Here is a reply I received from another colleague about your question:
"1. if the stock moves very quick in the first 5 minute period, that's one way
2. we do that to simulate real conditions where stop losses are not easy to enforce"
i like what you created but it appears to be more of a long strategy.
what Im really after is stocks that are very far above their 200dma or 40wma. stocks that perhaps are also in mature trends and much above the upper bollinger band.
these to me would then be good short candidates.
I tried playing around after w/ the adx and +di but just didnt like the alerts.
lets try something else...how do I specify on the filter window stocks trading 150% above the upper bollinger band BUT shown on a weekly chart rather than a daily?
thx
alexa: At the bottom of the page are the Configure or See in Real Time options you are looking for.
thx for the reply.....Unfortunately the link is in the "history" form so I cant see the whole new alert created.
Did you simply remove my 200dma and replace it with the 25% pullback?
thx
Yes, I have had the same idea. But then I am going to have up to 25 or even more windows for all my strategies.
But anyway, thanks for your help - Hope, the percentage solution is comming soon...
BAOLI
Baoli: Came up with one possibility: Yhe only other solution, which is quite cumbersome, would be to split your ticker windows into certain price groups and then adjusting the spread accordingly...
s_i: Of course! Both the Up/Down Day filters are here: http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinUp
alexa: Took your 5% above 200 day SMA strategy and put this spin on it that will hopefully put you in a good buying opportunity. You'll understand what I did when you look at the Configuration:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/History.html?O=400000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000_cd_0&MaxSpread=15&MaxDNbbo=.15&MinMA200P=4.9&WN=Pullback+Just+Before+200+ma+extreme&start=5730180051
Let me know if that helps
OddsMaker result, Best/Worst
Hi, how can the Best/Worst numbers in the result be better than the profit and loss numbers I set?
For example, I set sell if profit is 40 cent and sell if loss is 20 cents. How can the Best number be $2.41 and Worst be -$1.96?
Shouldn't the Best and worst equal to 40 and 20 cents?
Thanks
BTW, any new features on the Oddsmaker coming out any time soon? How about the trading bot?
Is there a way using filters, to see stocks that have closed down for the past X days...
Is there a way using filters, to see stocks that have closed up for the past X days...
im trying to create a longterm alert but nothing seems to work.
Can you suggest what alerts / filters to you.
this is what Im looking to do..
based on weekly charts
have a % move alert that gives a signal when a stock / index is X% away from the 200 dma (40 week ma)
so, lets say prices have moved 5% above the 40 week moving average..id want an alert then.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/History.html?O=400000_cd_0&MinMA200P=5&WN=200+ma+extreme
how do i incorporate weekly data?
Announcing the arrival of STOCHASTICS!

marketmark: Thanks for the suggestion on price. Here's a solution for adding seconds to your display:
http://marketmovers.blogspot.com/2009/11/tooltip-spank-father-time-while.html
Baoli: Thanks for the feedback - we may eventually do a % spread filter but our first concern was to do it in $$. After a certain amount of cents you just don't want to see such wide spreads - regardless what the dollar price is of the stock - 1.e., 2% of GOOG. I put a Max spread amount of $0.15 and the tool keeps me away from bad/disadvantaged fills. You can also improve your OddsMaker results by using the Max Distance from Inside Market - which you can express as a percentage.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinDNbbo
I would use this filter as a proxy for the spread until we add the % option.
Adding a price column to the alert window.
Hi, I wish I can see the price when the alerts show up in TI Pro. It'll make it so much easier for reviewing. Or at least add the seconds to the time column. Right now, I'd have to guess what the price was when the alerts first came in when reviewing.
Thanks
Ok I have had a closer look to the results of the oddsmaker, but need a bit more time to figure out the actual problem and will let you know.
Another thing I would like to discuss with you is the min/max spread filter. Somehow there should be a possibility to filter spread in % and not only in pennies.
Because when I want to trade stocks between 1$ and 4o$ useing the spread filter defined by pennies(for example: min 10 pennies, max 150 pennies), it does not make sence.
Finally I want to be able to trade stocks with a spread less than 2%.
I would be glad to hear from you very soon.
Thanks
Baoli
Any tech issues today, as I got some alerts when calculating manually, I should not have gotten them?
Gattaca: From our Tech Dept: "We had a technical issue that started Monday and continued thru mid-day yesterday. We lost between 5 and 10% of our symbols on those two days. The issue has been resolved." Apologies for not getting this to you sooner.
This will be my last reply
We are talking about ATHN on 27.April
The range on the 26th was 0.9$; 20% = 0.18$
The low on 26th was 36.5. So the alert should have arrived at a price of 36.32. Look at the intraday chart. The alert should have happened at about 10 am.
And if you recommend your tool, you should first try it out yourself.
I tried it with ATHN for 27th and there were absolute no alerts, I repeat, NO alerts until 12:30.
I have no problem when you had a technical issues, but i do have problems with this kind of stereotype anwers.
regards
Georg
gattaca: ATHN did not satisfy your filters until 12:30. Whatever the activity around the open did not meet the criteria you set.
It's uncertain from your message what day you saw this activity. You can find out exactly what we reported for ATHN by using this great tool, Stocks Like This:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html
Enter ATHN and the day and time for which you want to see activity and we'll show you what our servers reported.
stock was ATHN (its in the alert link, did you try it?)
The alert is last 3 days down and range of previous day is -20 %
I went down from the open so I should got the alert about 10 -20 minutes after the open ( look at the intraday chart). But the first alert arrived lately at 12:30. So it has nothing to do with the heartbeat alert.

Georg
HI The Janks
I read your post Addicted to Trades Tab. I'm not sure exactly what you are doing. Would you care to elaborate on how you are doing this? I too am interested in seing buy and sell pressure. thnaks.
Janks: If you are using TI PRO right click in a strategy window and select History - then uncheck Real Time and you'll see the historical alerts for that strategy.
If you are using the browser version, it's a link at the top of the window in the orange navigation bar.
Hope that helps
gattaca: Couple of things: 1. You are using the heartbeat alert which by default only updates once every 5 minutes to see if all the filter conditions are met. Try choosing an event from the alert list to be your trigger when and why we should send a message to you.
2. It's hard to identify precisely what stock you were late with using your configuration. Let us know what stock to which you refer.
Thanks
Well, I believe I am a paid subscriber... where do I click for this ?
Janks: The data is available historically if you are a paid subscriber. Gotta keep something for ourselves :)
Glad you are enjoying the Traders Area. Spread the word!
late alert
I'm using this:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=8000000000000000000000000_1D_0&MaxPrice=150&MaxRPD=-20&MaxUp=-3&MinPrice=15&MinVol=500000&WN=test&SL=xATHN
The alert came very late, can you please tell me why ?
regards
George
"Trades" tab
I'm addicted to the Trades tab, mainly to see buy pressure to the sell pressure. However, gotta get it 'today' because it's gone the next.
Is there anywhere for historical data such as this ? OF course, don't need the entire day's data, just the very last one of the day.
Thanks in advance.
alexa: I started by using our 'Stocks Like This' tool and entered Fri, April 23, 11:55 ET, and CQP. http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html
I then picked some filters with values that caught CQP that I thought modeled the stock's behavior and copied them into a Config window. I then cleaned up the ranges and came up with this:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=40000000000000000000000000000000040000000000000000000000_3dd_0&QRDI=2.5&MaxPrice=40&MaxDNbbo=.1&MinVol5D=50000&MinVWV=0.0800&MinPOORP=125.0&MinUp=3&MinLR130=0.6998&WN=Stocks+Like+CQP
See if that helps.
waynec: Try this: I took a doji day to be a stock up 0 days in the Min and Max Up Day filters. This is a good starting point for you:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=8000000000000000000000000_1d_0&MinPCAV=1000&MinUp=0&MaxUp=0&WN=Doji+Days
Def. of filter: http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinUp
thx s_i for the assist. So Bali what specifically are you experiencing that's unexpected?
ok, would be great if you could add that capability. Seems like it would be easy to do.
Trade-Idea: how to determine a Doji day? Hi All, I am new to Trade-Idea from ScottTradeElite. I am trying to find a way to determine a previous trading day is a doji day (open and close prices are the same) within trade-idea, I have not been able to find it. Would anyone please help me out? Appreciate it.
Hi Stock investor
Thanks for your quick reply. But I think this is not the problem since I normally use a minimum stopp of 3%.
Cheers
Hey Baoli...
I thought i had the same issue, too...But then was able to figure out why there was a difference...
Check out this article..

Hope this helps...
Automated trading / Oddsmaker results
Hi
I have recently started trading fully automated via TIpro and IB.
All the results of my strategies look pretty good backtesting with the TIpro's oddsmaker.
I only trade stocks with more than 500'000 shares (daily volume)and 0.1% max distance from inside market. --> means: All the stocks that come through TIpro are tradable quite well.
Now the problem is that the oddsmaker results are not the same as they are in real trading. There are even quiet big differences.
I hope there is some help for this.
Thanks
thx for your help! before seeing your example, gave it a shot using bollinger band combinations (min/max) and added near a 52week high.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=8000000000000000000000000_3dd_0&MinVol5D=200000&MaxVol5D=1000000&MinBoll5=90&MinBoll15=50&MaxBoll15=100&MinBoll60=50&MaxBoll60=100&MinRCon=242.9&MaxRCon=400.0&MinBeta=1.5&WN=Stocks+Like+JAS
your examples are very helpful, thanks again.
hmmm guys help me out here..
(similar to final4's idea)
in this scan below it looks like 99% are bad ticks that set off the alert (the chart doesn't confirm the alert)
http://www.trade-ideas.com/History.html?O=40000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000_d9_0&QRDN=1&MaxPrice=40&MinVol=50000&MaxFCD=-.50&WN=MOD%3A+NR7+%2B+breakout&SL=X1
so, here I added distance from inside market. I tried max .10 as well as max 0.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/History.html?O=40000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000_19_0&QRDN=1&MaxPrice=40&MaxDNbbo=0&MinVol=50000&MaxFCD=-.50&WN=MOD%3A+NR7+%2B+breakout&SL=X1
now, here's the problem.
the 1 real trade, which shows up on the 1st history but not the second is at 11:55 CQP
How can it be fixed so that the bad ticks are removed BUT stuff like CQP show up?
thx
Final4: since the markets are so fast one last desperation way to make your strategy work is this...
go back to your original concept..running down
rather than get the alert AFTER the stock has fallen (& most likely bounced) your $0.20, tighten your requirement to 0.10 or 0.15.
At least that way you can hopefully, quickly entry an order 0.05 to 0.10 lower and get your fill.
good luck.
alexa: Good question. The Max count filter works on the basis of max/symbol/alert for the day. It is the count we record per symbol for each alert irrespective of the filters you choose
final4: No. Can't do exactly what you are asking for at this time in the manner you are asking. Sorry.
If I use a max count of 10 and have 2 alerts, ie new highs and nr7
will the 10 count be max / symbol for the day or 10 / each alert?
thx
Ok, one more time and I'll give up. Is there a way to have the system look for stocks that drop 20c in under 20 seconds and as soon as they do that, alert me? The system would watch a rolling 20 second interval and if any stock drooped 20c over that interval, it would send me an immediate alert.
alexa: You'd add the Min Consolidation filter we have, set at Min 6 days. Like this: http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=20000000000000000000000000000000_c0_0&QNR7=2&MinPrice=1.01&MaxPrice=10&MinVol=100000&MinConDays=6&WN=MOD:+NR7-2+1-10$&SL=X1
Thanks for helping out as well - much appreciated and very good suggestions!
I just created this for consolidations BUT I am curious...
IF I wanted to see alerts based on weekly consolidations how would I do it?
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=20000000000000000000000000000000_C0_0&QNR7=2&MaxPrice=10&MinPrice=1.01&MinVol=100000&WN=NR7-2+1-10%24&SL=X1

Our philosophy is that real-time alert scanning and event-based backtesting tools (vs. single stock backtesting tools - I'm lookin' at you TradeStation, WealthLab Pro) are the new frontier of advanced trading tools. Market evolution has forced the need to have these tools to level the playing field.
There are different ways to access real-time alerts. Some come bundled in direct access platforms like Cyber, RealTick, Redi Plus..etc. There are also stand alone products like Insight-Trading, First Alert, Tradeprofile, and of course Trade-Ideas.
We encourage anyone interested to take a look at the different products and tell others what you think.
