that makes it much easier...
a solution, not a perfect one but a good one....
create another alert window or 2. add all the "running ones"
there are 4.
I have experienced that they will give slightly different results.
the one use use now, running down now is it? gives less alerts than the running down (intermediate) and running down.
so you might get an alert of a falling stock which falls <1sec and be able to trade it manually.
If I think of anything else I'll let ya know.
I might have an idea...are you
trading manually or automated? are you
trading US or cdn mkts?
thanks. unfortunately, the timing is what I want to change.
final4 I go through the same issues all the time.
to solve 1/2 your problem try 1 of 2 things or both....remove the max up from close filter and remove volume.
you should get more alerts. But the timing is still the issue.
Id create 2 or 3 windows,....each a slight modification of the other ..run them side by side and see which gives the most / best alerts.
no, I don't mind at all. I use 20c on the running down alert. I use a filter for $40 max price. A filter for -$.50 for max up from the close so it only looks at stocks that are at least down 50c on the day. I use a filter of 50,000 shares traded minimum on the day. That's it.
final4: If you dont want to share your strategy that's fine. But the Running Down/Up alerts are the best ones to use. Remember that these alerts only look for unusual running activity. Google falling 20c over a minute is ignored by these alerts because its a no-news type of event. It might be helpful to understand your filter settings in order to see what kind of stock universe you're searching in.
The strategy is very simple. I just look for stocks thsat have fallen 20c or more using running down now. But that alert uses a time period of 1 minute, so it alerts me if a stock falls 20c over the last minute. What I want is an alert if a stock falls 20c over maybe 20 seconds.
s_i: On entry we normally use the last print. We record the price at the time of the alert, which could be more than once per second. We also look at the historical data, and sometimes we adjust the entry price. If the price is outside of the historical candle, we assume it was a bad print and we try to fix it.
One possibility is that he's seeing bad prints. Jamie {Our Director of Trader Education) says that the bad print filter is an absolute requirement for robot trading, and people should also use it in The Oddsmaker.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinDNbbo
Another possibility is that things are just moving very quickly at the time. Both of those happen a lot, depending how you set up your alerts.
final4: Without seeing your strategy I dont know if I can help. Try copying and pasting it in your reply.
ODDSMAKER
Hi,
I have been watching my alert windows, and as soon as a stock comes in the alert window, I then immediately get a quote for that stock from my online brokerage...
It seems that the price the oddsmaker is saying the alert went off at, is different then the price the stock was trading at...
Thus, can you plz clarify:
1) What price does the oddsmaker use (bid, ask, last)?
2) Does the oddmsmaker actually record every "tick?"
3) If an alert went off at 10:32 and 21 seconds, does the oddsmaker refer to the EXACT price at 10:32 and 21 seconds?
Just trying to understand why there is such a discrepancy.
Thanks.
I don't want an alternative way. I have the way i want, it's just not fast enough because Scottrade built it using a 1 minute time frame. My question again is, is there a way to somehow get that 1 minute down to something quicker using running down now.
final4: Sounds like your fading moves or scalping - One way of modeling is keeping an open mind to alternative methods of recognizing the pattern you want to see.
See these examples mentioned in this post as other ways to skin the cat.

Sorry, I am already using the Running Down Now alert. Again, by the time I get the alert, the stock has already bounced back significantly.
If you can suggest a fix, I'd appreciate it.
final4: We have multiple versions of the running down/up alerts. You are looking at the most conservative/confirmable one. Try the intermediate version or the Running Down Now version:

alexa: Alerts are the 'or' statements - you can choose 1, 2, or more and they are all independent of each other. The filters are 'and' statements - they stack ontop of each other and all of them must be satisfied before showing you an alert.
Think of the alerts as what you want to see, the filters as what you don't want to see, and the exchanges as where to find them.
the alerts are all "and" based, correct? rather than "or"
thx
I use the "running down" alert in Trade Ideas but it waits for 1 minute until sending the alert. I need some quicker, like 10-15 seconds. How do I do that?
chadow: I'm not an expert on MACD, but so many people on this forum requested it, I defer to them!
That said my suggestion would be to use the MACD with filters for price movement like Up in the last x minutes or Change from the close. That way you can make sure the price is diverging from the MACD.
alexa: Let me work on something (a strategy) for you
jprad: THanks for the more detailed description - it helps. Noted.
I like to use MACD divergences from price to start looking
for interesting setups. I haven't been able to figure out
how to do this with TI. Any suggestions?
fine, so thats the answer BUT now I need a solution.
There have been 5-10 similar situations over the last 2 months that I have posted...I missed the trade on all as I was not alerted to any of them.
How can I catch these?
If the block list was just a specially named symbol list, say "Blocked," then we can manage the list with the current "Tools/Symbols Lists" dialog.
As for on-the-fly list management options, the most flexible way would be an additional "Symbol Lists" sub-menu added to the right-click menu with the following items in it:
Add to Blocked list
Remove from Blocked list
Remove from selected lists
Add to all lists
Remove from all lists
alexa: I took a look at EME.cat using our Stocks Like This tool. Here's what we reported at that timeframe:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html?symbol=EME.cat&start_date=1271401200&start_hours=11&start_minutes=25&time=10
I see the Min Relative Volume (Current Volume) was at 0.46 - that's pretty low volume. When a stock is that quiet the jump in price could be a bad print or exchange error. Either way the price spike did not affect the volume. I'll take more of a look because not everything has to have volume for it to appear.
once again I'm super pissed off.
I need a solid answer....
EME.cat apr 16 11:26am
falls from $3.83-3.05 in < 1min and bounces right back.
volume 80k+
No alerts were received WHY NOT?
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=40000000000000000000000000000000040020000000000000280000_40_0&MinPrice=2&SL=xEME.CAT
what is it going to take for me to get these alerts?
<david I need a better application than what I have now...help me out>
morechocolate: Great question. There's plenty of examples on our blog http://marketmovers.blogspot.com/. Do a search on the blog for terms like fade or scalp and you'll see several strategy articles with good ideas. Here's one example:

Pete: I took your request on SHOR and put it into our tool, Stocks Like This, for the time you indicated (assuming EST). Here is the analysis of what our servers reported for the stock for 60 minutes. Put a check into the boxes of the alerts and filters you want other opportunities to emulate and scroll to the bottom of the page where you can copy them to a configuration window. You'll want to go and remove some MIN or MAX values in order to establish a range that others stocks can meet.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html?symbol=SHOR&start_date=1270796400&start_hours=13&start_minutes=50&time=60
Good luck
s_i: I'll note it in the log. Let us catch our breath! :)
sternforpres: Thank you!
beardance: Heartbeat is a good place to start. From there add more filters to further reduce your universe.
tbam: Nice approach. Without backtesting this I did come up with an interpretation of your strategy that produced a handful of alerts today: not too many not too few either. I like it:
http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=20000008000000000000000000000000_1d_0&MinBAR=1.5&MinVol=500000&MinRV=.5&MaxRV=5&MinTRangeD=1&MinRange15P=.5&MaxRange15P=1&MinFOD=1&MinBelowHigh=.15&MinRD=85&WN=Up+and+Consolidated
Good luck
You are correct: become a member and you'll see history going back several days ++.
Great to see these new features. I am still experimenting and not yet a subscriber. I have a question about getting historical data. If I try a new configuration after hours, nothing much happens and I can't get any history. If I were a subscriber, could I see the history for that day for any configuration I might want to test afterhours?
Min/Max Above/Below Pivot Points, please.
R2,R1,PP,S1,S2...would be cool...very cool.
About your separate block list: Did you also wish for a way to on-the-fly remove entries on your block list and allow them to be included back with your main list? Did you wish for your block list symbols to be retained each time that you access your account?
for intra-day and scalping - are there any recommended, successful alert/filter recipes? scans-on-steroids?
i recently started using trade-ideas - amazing tool. been back- and forward-testing numerous combinations, but hoping to get some direction.
Looking for example on new tools
Hi TI,
I was just wondering if you could provide the scan setup I should use to pick up a stock like SHOR from about 1:53pm till close on Friday, 4/9. I'd like to incorporate the DI, ADX, NR7, and the 1-2-3 continuation tools.
Thanks,
Pete
Hi TI,
I see that you have rolled out a bunch of awesome new Alerts!!!These rock!
One question I was wondering, was you rolled out the macd alert...
In the description it says the: "These alerts are based on the standard 26, 12, and 9 period EMA's."
Since you now are already calculating/storing the EMA data, is there anyway you can build on that, and rollout a 9 and 12 period min/max EMA filter based on the 2, 5, 10, and 60 minute time frames...Just as you have done with the SMA filters...
THANKS SO MUCH!
Heartbeat will probably not be very useful, as it has a five minute minimum trigger (I think).
Maybe try "Large Spread"??
Hi I want to filter for stocks trading between 20.00 and 30.00 that have a minimum spread of 50 pennies. Which I have set up under Window Specific Filters. Not sure what to use under Select Alerts, would i use the hartbeat?
filter help request:
would really appreciate your help.
would like to find stocks that have consolidated near their highs and not pulled in over the last 10, 30 or 60 mins. not looking for overbought stocks that have run up, more like somthing that's been strong, consolidated, and is being supported with bids.
so for example, stock has moved up $1.00 today, and over the last 30 minutes, it has not pulled in more than say X%.
would be something like lowest (low, X mins) is > X% * (range), combined with some of the other filters.
it'd be a version of the max distance below the highs, but filtered over a longer time period, and preferably adapative.
thx!
Been a week of new features to Trade-Ideas: MACD, ADX, +DI, and -DI indicators http://www.trade-ideas.com/WhatsNew.html - check them out!
Ok. We'll note it as a request. Thanks
Filter Request: I know you already have the "up 5" filter, an "up 1" option would be awesome to find 3 or 4 red or green 1 minute candles in a row.
I have all TI tutorials available to me through ScotTrade. If I become a paid subscriber, what form is the training? Phone, email, fax, onsite training? You have a wonderful product. I dont know what your business model is but it seems to me that you could inhance your bottom line by offering clinics/training to those of us who see the potential in TI and are willing to pay for being fast tracked.
thanks again for a great product.
chadow
THAT EXPLAINS IT!
Sorry I had no idea!!!
Thanks for clarifying!!!
HEAR Ye, HEAR Ye: multi time frame MACDs are coming!

Our philosophy is that real-time alert scanning and event-based backtesting tools (vs. single stock backtesting tools - I'm lookin' at you TradeStation, WealthLab Pro) are the new frontier of advanced trading tools. Market evolution has forced the need to have these tools to level the playing field.
There are different ways to access real-time alerts. Some come bundled in direct access platforms like Cyber, RealTick, Redi Plus..etc. There are also stand alone products like Insight-Trading, First Alert, Tradeprofile, and of course Trade-Ideas.
We encourage anyone interested to take a look at the different products and tell others what you think.
