I want to scan for stocks crossing above the sma 8 like the video, I can't find it.
Please disregard my last post, I think I found my error!
The Bid Ask filter is not one of the filters we made available for the tool - I believe there are others too.
Since you asked I will see if it can be added.
Can someone check the "Options Volume % today" in TI PRO????
I am looking at WMS today 3/17 at 11:24
http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html?symbol=wms&start_date=1268809200&start_hours=11&start_minutes=20&time=5
The Options Volume % today says 11.7%, but when I put "Max Options volume % today" =100% in TI, it excludes LOTS of stocks that I think it should not, including WMS.
Thanks...
Bid / Ask Ratio
Hi using the stocks like this tool as your recomend, how come there is never any data as to the Bid / Ask Ratio?
EXAMPLE: As you will see the bid / ask ratio filter is not even there?
http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html?symbol=msft&start_date=1268722800&start_hours=10&start_minutes=30&time=5
http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html?symbol=intc&start_date=1268722800&start_hours=10&start_minutes=30&time=5
Good question: Trade Ideas works only on a PC at this time.
I'll log it and forward it along. Thanks for the suggestion
Use the Stocks Like This tool to get the filter and alert settings that produced the different stocks you mentioned. Its a way to reverse engineer a pattern from the stock symbol on a particular day:

Sorry fogot to put in my post...If no, any plans too add mac functionality?
Trade ideas pro...
Wierd question i know, but can we use trade ideas pro on a mac? One that does not have windows installed on it....
How about adding "Put/Call OPEN INTEREST ratio" as a search criteria?
AIG FUN XNPT(on Monday) take a look. Not sure how to capture these momo moves: running up, unusual # of prints, strong vol, high relative vol, 1 min vol spike. SVU on Fri. Any thoughts? Tia.
Sounds like you could use the Wide Range Bar alert to describe this sudden expansion.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WRB5
With regard to the Bollinger bands you can put values above 100 to show stocks above the upper limit. Remember these Bollinger filters place the stock in relation to the bands - they don't filter on the band values themselves.

Post your strategy here or via email to info@trade-ideas.com and we can take a closer look for you
Correction: When I get it wrong I correct myself. This a more precise answer from our lead developer.
"The "3" minutes part might be confusing. If a lot of prints come in all at once, it could fire in one second or less. My point was that if you're looking at a move that takes more than 3 minutes to complete, then this alert will always miss it. So 3 minutes was a worst case and it's usually much faster.
Your last statement about it scaling to any time frame was mistaken."
Sorry for any confusion
Bollingers, how do I create an alert that shows the upper band going up, the same time the lower band is going down, after the Bollingers have pinched or have been in a squeeze for a few bars?
Please.
Thanks for getting back to me.
I realize that it is probably a noise factor, but I wouldn't mind being able to change it to 3 or 4 times instead. As of now, I only get about 1500 alerts per day, and I could probably handle as many as 3000 which is why I wanted to lower the threshold.
Would you guys consider making that change in the near future?
Great suggestions - I'll add them to the mix we maintain from this forum and all our customer feedback sources.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#UNOP
As for the print alert you are correct that we set the threshold at 5x before showing an alert. This is to preserve the usefulness of the alert and avoid it becoming a noise factor. Note that 5x is the minimum - you can set a higher value here.
http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#alert_filter_UNOP
Also the alert's time frame is not 3 minutes. That was just an example to help explain how the alert works. It is calculated by the second.
The definition could have easily read, if a stock prints as many times in a 36 second period as it usually does in 180 seconds, then we report an alert.
Without more information it's hard to assist you here. We know of no other instances similar to yours with respect to the External Linking feature.
Here's the definition of the SMA filters which answers your question i believe: http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html#WSF_MinMA50R
We state in the % formula (but it also applies to the volatility one too) that we look at last price - or tick data to constantly refresh and compute your alert preferences subject to this filter requirement.
Best,

Short Interest? Any way to catch an intraday "short squeeze"?
In the documentation for "Unusual number of prints", it writes that a stock must print at least 5 times as fast as normal to generate this alert.
Is this calculated by exceeding a number of standard deviations from the mean for that time of day?
Would it be possible for the TI team to program TI to allow the users to select the threshold rather than having it set to a minimum of 5 times? And how long would it take before this feature is added to TI? Reason I ask is because it seems that TI is sometimes a bit slow with reporting stocks printing abnormally thereby missing most of the move. It would also be nice (not sure if it is possible) to reduce the time frame to one minute rather than 3.
Also, I know that it doesn't make sense for some of the alerts, but is TI ever going to have an 'AND' option when selecting multiple alerts rather than just 'OR'?
Thanks!
"Set Up External Linking" is stuck in the open position and will not close. I restarted Win XP but still will not go away.
Up from 50 Day SMA or 200 day sma filter
Hi, How often is this value computed...Every second, min, etc?
I see on many of the other sma filters, the time frame is specefied...Can you plz help when u get a sec..
THANKS!
"Values can be can be higher, lower, or in between 0 and 100." So yes numbers can be larger than 100 - in the case of 200 its twice as far from the upper band. Hope that helps.
Boilenger bands
in your filter definition it says
" means that the last print touches the lower Bollinger Band, 100 means the last print touches the upper Bollinger Band. Values can be can be higher, lower, or in between 0 and 100. "
When using your stock like this feature
http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html?symbol=seed&start_date=1267516800&start_hours=9&start_minutes=50&time=5
i get a 5 min boilenger level of up to 200.
So based off of above defenition how can it be above 100?
very interesting. And good suggestion given the profile of the stocks you watch. It might help us pinpoint the phenomenon if you gave us the 2 stocks in question and the dates you observed the behavior? It would help! Thanks
funny story for all whose reading...
last week a stock tanked $2 in what seemed like a heartbeat...
my running down now ( the fastest) gave no alerts but the running down gave all....and I missed the trade.
so, I went and created another alert window so that I have both...
today, same scenario...only this time stock tanks and it shows up on running down now not the other.
so, for all traders...make sure you have multiple alert windows created so this doesnt happen to you.
Hello! 'll show how important and where to put that to see a smooth action?
OK. Point taken. We'll look at better explaining the min value there. Thanks
No its not clear from the instructions.
No where does it say that 5 mins is the minimum interval...It says "Other values are allowed"
Based off your reply (or lack there of acknowledging this), Im assuming the instructions are inncorect.
Based off my testing/ trial and error, I see that 5 mins is the minimum interval.
You might want to update the instructions and take out the part that says "Other values are allowed"
I think its clear from the instructions you quoted that other values are allowed but the minimum is a 5 minute interval. Hope that helps!
First of all there will be no price increase for using alerts and filters we roll out. Trade Ideas reserves the right to increase the rates of our plans - but no increase (and not certainly to $200/month) will ever be the result of adding alerts and filters - its not our culture or style.
You may be referring to our institutional product in development - more details of this product will be forthcoming. But the Trade Ideas PRO product will always benefit from new alerts and filters for our customers to create ever more varied strategies.
I refute the claim that Trade Ideas isnt developing more indicators - since Q4 2009 we've added 22 new filters and 7 new alerts. Here's our open record viewable anytime of how often we improve the product. The record speaks for itself: http://www.trade-ideas.com/WhatsNew.html
The specific indicators you mention are part of a long queue of ideas and requests we receive all the time and log. Some get advanced faster than others for a number of reasons too lengthy and confidential to explain here.
I hope this answers your concerns. We look forward to showing you even more future improvements that are coming. Stay tuned.
to bbruin: Can't respond to your private msg to me. We can items 1 and 2 - not #3. Thanks
Heartbeat Alert
Hi, I am using some filters and the heart beat alert.
I want to see alerts every 2 min, so I enter 2 minutes in the box... In the details of the alert on your filters and definitions page, the heartbeat alert says you can enter "Other values are allowed. "
How come when I enter 2 mins (anything under 5 mins I enter) it does NOT change how often a stock alert is delivered...However if I enter anything OVER 5 mins it does...
Im confused becuase in your instructions you say "other values are allowed" but it seems that nothing less then 5 mins is allowed?
"By default the heartbeat alert occurs once every 5 minutes for each stock. Enter a larger number to see the alert less frequently. Enter 7.5, for example, to see approximately one alert per stock every 7 and one half minutes.
This filter is most precise when you use values like 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 40 minutes, etc. Other values are allowed. On average the server will always deliver the correct number of alerts. But you get the smoothest stream of alerts when you use one of the values listed above.
Plz confirm or clarify?
Hi, Myself and many others have been requesting the 8 period, 2 min, EMA and WMA filters, just like the "Up from 8 Period SMA (2m)" filter you offer, where users can specify the percent up or down from there...
My questions are:
1) Are these ever coming?
2) Are these even under development?
3) There is a rumor on many forums, that Trade ideas is no longer putting much time in to developing filters with the Trade Ideas product (hence the reason the majority of us have not get any filter requests fufilled) As you guys are "rolling out some new product" in the next few months where you will create these filters for us, but it will cost approx $200 per month?
Look fwd to hearing from you.
when an alert comes through its shown to the minute. ie 1:15pm
is their a way to show to the second, ie 1:15 32sec
thx
I think I got a bad alert on SNE on 3/2 at 2:03. I look for new highs that are up 1% from yest. close and up 1% from the open.
Maybe it was a bad print, but it was only up about .5% at the time. Thanks.
I see we caught the very move in question:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wlx0GQEcH6Q/S4zSLTvvKgI/AAAAAAAAA4c/y47razpPOh8/s1600-h/cjt_un_cat.JPG
Why wasn't Running Down Now triggered as well? This alert is extremely sensitive to price movement. To make the alert a valuable one vs. a boy who cried wolf alert, we strike a balance betweem catching price action and avoiding bad prints. All this gets harder to balance on stocks like yours that have a 5-day range of 50 cents, that move only .06 cents every 15-minutes and that don't trade more than 4,700 shares/day.
I'm glad the other alerts caught the movement. Additionally another alert that you might use to catch early movement is the 1 minute volume spike. It's not directional but it will point you to something that's popping which might be of interest to you:

http://www.trade-ideas.com/View.php?O=40000000000000000000000000000000040000000000000000080000_40_0&QRDN=0.09&MaxPrice=20&WN=test&SL=xCJT.UN.CAT
if the "running down Now" is the fastest alert why does it not pick up cjt.un at 1:48 when it tanked?
There are no beta testers of the MACD indicators at this time. You'll hear about it first here - I promise.
As for ignored questions, please let me know to which you are referring. Most times the question has been answered within the same cluster of replies. Thanks
Time2 - if you are having difficulty adjusting the timezone, please let me know more details - we can fix or point you in the right direction.
To what are you refering in TI PRO? Do you see it as off in seconds, minutes or hours? Thanks
Trade ideas
I would like to sea respond on msg #1713
Macd is coming out soon or VIP members all ready playing with same?
Also I was wondering way some msg-question are ignored on this forum?
I guess we're paying for monthly membership
are you 3 hour in trouble time?
try to calculate manualy
don't bother fixing it
I spend days and nights but --- no luck
No,
They are not in synch..I am refering to the time in the logs, that one can check to see what price a stock was purchased at, etc.
I am 100% sure they are not exactly in synch.
Alexa, we reported many alerts for the stock you mentioned: http://www.trade-ideas.com/StockInfo/_StocksLikeThis.html?symbol=cjt.un.cat&start_date=1267430400&start_hours=9&start_minutes=30&time=60
Please post your strategy in your reply. We will take a look at it and configure it for you. Thanks
The two are already in sync. Ti determines what time zone you are in to make sure the correct hour is displayed. You can create your own sync from TI PRO. Select Tools --> Options
From our User Guide:
"Use controls inside "Time Zone" section to change the time zone used to display times in the alert alert window. Select direction of time offset and number of hours and minutes to add/subtract. Leave zeros to use local time."
what the********
I cant take much more of this...
what am I paying for. You guys should
be paying me.
1:48pm mar1 cjt.un.cat falls from 951 to 749.

Our philosophy is that real-time alert scanning and event-based backtesting tools (vs. single stock backtesting tools - I'm lookin' at you TradeStation, WealthLab Pro) are the new frontier of advanced trading tools. Market evolution has forced the need to have these tools to level the playing field.
There are different ways to access real-time alerts. Some come bundled in direct access platforms like Cyber, RealTick, Redi Plus..etc. There are also stand alone products like Insight-Trading, First Alert, Tradeprofile, and of course Trade-Ideas.
We encourage anyone interested to take a look at the different products and tell others what you think.
