"Botnet growth increased in Q1, reaching nearly 5 million infections at its highest point. Columbia, Japan, Poland, Spain, and the United States were areas with the largest botnet increase, while Indonesia, Portugal, and South Korea were regions that continued to decline. The most prevalent botnet of Q1 was Cutwail, with more than 2 million new infections.
McAfee's report depicts the price breakdown for a botnet sold on the black market. Citadel, a Zeus variant and financial botnet, will cost a cybercriminal $2,399 plus $125 for "rent" of a botnet builder and administration panel, with an extra $395 for automatic updates for antivirus evasion. For Darkness, by SVAS/Noncenz, a distributed denial of service botnet, options range from $450 for a minimal package to approximately $1,000 for more advanced offerings."

McAfee Q1 Threats Report Finds Significant Malware Increase Across All Platforms
Last update: 5/23/2012 8:00:07 AM
Record Quarter for PC and Mobile Malware; Mac Malware Shows Consistent Growth
SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 23, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- McAfee today released the McAfee Threats Report: First Quarter 2012, which exposes an increase in malware across all platforms. The report shows that in Q1, PC malware reached its highest levels in four years, as well as a steep increase in malware targeting the Android platform. Mac malware was also on the rise, indicating that total malware could reach the 100 million mark within the year.
"In the first quarter of 2012, we have already detected 8 million new malware samples, showing that malware authors are continuing their unrelenting development of new malware," said Vincent Weafer, senior vice president of McAfee Labs. "The same skills and techniques that were sharpened on the PC platform are increasingly being extended to other platforms, such as mobile and Mac; and as more homes and businesses use these platforms the attacks will spread, which is why all users, no matter their platforms, should take security and online safety precautions."
Mobile Malware Explosion
Mobile malware raced up a significant incline during Q1 2012, with 8,000 total mobile malware samples collected. This large increase was due in part to McAfee Labs' advancements in the detection and accumulation of mobile malware samples.
Financial profit is one of the main motivators for spreading malware on the Android platform, as identified by McAfee Labs malware researcher Carlos Castillo in a recent blog post. Nearly 7,000 Android threats have been collected and identified through the end of Q1, a more than 1200 percent increase compared with the 600 Android samples collected by the end of Q4 2011. The majority of these threats stem from third-party app markets, and are typically not found in the official Android market.
Malware Increase in PCs and Macs
By the end of 2011, McAfee Labs collected more than 75 million malware samples. Q1 2012 had the largest number of PC malware detected per quarter in the last four years. This increase brought the grand total to 83 million pieces of malware samples by the end of Q1, up from 75 million samples at the end of Q4 2011. Major contributors to the total were strong increases in rootkits, a stealth form of malware, as were password stealers, which reached approximately 1 million new samples in Q1. In Q1, email continued to be a medium used for highly targeted attacks, and nearly all targeted attacks began with a spear phish.
As the Flashback Trojan began to wreak havoc among Apple Mac users in March, Mac malware had already been growing at a consistent rate. Despite the growth, Mac malware is still significantly less prevalent than PC malware, with approximately 250 new Mac malware samples, and approximately 150 new Mac fake anti-virus malware samples in Q1.
Spam Low, Botnets High
Global spam levels dropped to slightly more than 1 trillion monthly spam messages by the end of March. Decreases were most significant in Brazil, Indonesia, and Russia, while increases in spam were found in China, Germany, Poland, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
Botnet growth increased in Q1, reaching nearly 5 million infections at its highest point.
For Darkness, by SVAS/Noncenz, a distributed denial of service botnet, options range from $450 for a minimal package to approximately $1,000 for more advanced offerings.
United States the Primary Source of Cyberattacks
A compromised machine is often used as a proxy for spam, botnets, denial of service, or other types of malicious activities. These machines can be located anywhere in the world, but for Q1 many were located in the United States. Based on data collected from the McAfee Global Threat Intelligence(TM) network, the United States was the primary source of SQL-injection attacks and cross-site scripting attacks, and also had the highest number of victims of both attacks. The United States currently houses the most botnet control servers, and the location point for the vast majority of new malicious websites, with an average of 9,000 new bad sites recorded per day.
"True, but they usually put you on ignore as soon as they sent it so you can't get even!"
Perhaps instead of the mutual masturbation that is "member mark exchange" a system where we agree to send PMs on behalf of those who have been sent an abusive PM then been immediately blocked would be beneficial.
For instance if somebody sends Churak a rude PM and then blocks him before he can send a reasoned and cogent reply (I know, I know, but bear with me here, it's just a hypothetical example), he PMs me with the text he would like the offender to receive and I forward it to that poster on Churak's behalf.
what about threats of lawsuit? i get lots of those.
"extremely" vulgar? lol.
•All free members can send PM's to Admin
Abusive PMs
This guy sent me a PM and called me a jerk! That's a personal attack and he should be suspended!
Since Privates Messages by their very nature are private, administrative intervention is kept to a minimum. Admins get involved in PMs if they are extremely vulgar, contain threats of physical violence against the recipient, or are spam. If you are getting unwelcome private messages you have the option of blocking them. At the bottom of the PM, click on the link that says "Block User's Private Messages".
I received a very, very vulgar PM, how do I alert you?
If you would like Admin to review the situation, please send a copy/paste of the PM. Sending the URL to the offending PM will not suffice since it will not work for anyone other than the sender and recipient of the PM.

Good point - a mental midget is vulgar / attacking the "free" guys via PM (not the board) and knows he can skate w/out rebuttal...kinda feel sorry for those guys.
Yes, those are the brave Keyboard Warriors. In that case, simply find out what boards they post on typically indicating what POS stocks they are playing and short them so they panic and bid whack all the way down to get out. That'll learn 'em to mess with ya.
True, but they usually put you on ignore as soon as they sent it so you can't get even!
Not me - "Free" posters are screwed as they are defensless from returning the attack.
IHUB admin is the way to go for them - or am I wrong ?
They can't get "vulgar" right back on the board or they violate TOS right ?
The proper response would be to reply via PM with an even more vulgar PM. These PMs usually contain uh, "interaction" with farm animals and/or the recipient's MeeMaw.
If a poster sends a PM to another poster with vulgar name calling can / should the recipient poster report the vulgar PM to the IHUB board for discipline ?
Is this the same reason IHUB was down a couple of hours last week too?
Facebook may say people are "friends". But trust me, the "friends" would not hesitate to punch each other in the face.

DGRI is back to buying and selling. Can the charts be turned on, gain? Thanks.
Sorry for the interruption. We're dealing with a botnet attack.
Are we able to change our colors on the site like we used to be able to do?
Gotcha.
A lot of users try to:
[ chart ] URL to a web page that contains the image [ /chart ]
rather than:
[ chart ] URL to the actual image[ /chart ]
If the URL does not lead to the actual image itself, it won't work.
That was copied from a post on the stockcharts board and may not be an actual chart. Didn't mean to confuse. Was more for the [ chart].. reference...
Unless I typoed it, that URL doesn't produce anything.

You can still post the charts here; you just have to do it like you would any other off-site image.
k well guess they dumped I-hub off the share list
You'll have to ask StockCharts.
Is the android app having issues now? Everytime I try and read a message it pops me over to ihub on the internet asking me to login?
just a heads up.
TIA

WHAT HAPPENED to the investors hub share link with Stockcharts.com
RE the FB IPO; Is the public investor now going to capitalize on the shared information of our children and how they might spend their everly meager allowances we toil to meet? What are we to expect from generation Z? I was actually thinking of retiring soon . . . damn-it!
sanctioned by the SEC FINRA DTCC. all about the dollars
My question is; Was today's FB IPO not a classic pump and D
on a $B scale? Shows how much a $B is anymore. Too bad for you, Slim.
Pardon me for finding your unwarranted and uninformed public attack unworthy of a well-considered reply.
IHUB really needs a "Wow, that's the dumbest frickin' thing I've ever heard, you should go to Lemon Tree and get rid of that mullet" button.

Now, this is just a guess, but I'm thinking the entire reason for having a moderator system in the first place is to reduce the workload for the admins. in regard to keeping the boards on track in regards to the T.O.S.
And, this is just another guess here, when a moderating team accomplishes the inverse of the above in regard to admin. workload, it probably leads to that scarcity of thank you notes you have reported.
I am trying to use the streamer but it's telling me I need Java.
I have Java already.
I would prefer a piss on button...kinda like the "Piss on Chevy" or "Piss on Ford" stickers I always see.
Perhaps anyone could be entitled to thumbs up or thumbs down...but only premium members could piss on a post?
It would become a Yahoo board... EEEK!
I hope a like button is NOT in the works.
If it is, that would be a very iSad iHub iDay.
I've suggested it too, twice, and been told both times that it's in the works.
A like button would be nice, but I think a thumbs up/thumbs down or +/- would be better. A like button only tells us how the much public approves of a response, but a +/- would also gauge disapproval. In that sense, only a like button wouldn't allow the public to quickly differentiate between neutral posts and hated posts.
It's definitely a long timing coming for either idea tho. It saves a lot of board peace when people don't have to reply with "I like your post" every time someone posts something worthy of recognition, plus it might spare a lot of flame wars if a particular poster saw they were posting things people hated without being gangpiled on by several people telling them that they're jerks.
It's also fun to be able to vote a post up or down.
I see this comment made on a lot of different boards-
Then I stated my case poorly and I do apologize for inappropriate syntax.. I logged on this morning to check the board for violations of the TOU's and found that I was no longer a mod. In fact, all the mods on that board were summarily removed without explanation of any kind, either public or private. I am guessing that, according to the perspective that you espouse, we were all dismal failures. Thank you for at least communicating Ihub's take on the matter.
My point was, a brief "Thanks for your services but we think it's time for a change" would have been appropriate.
Continue with your fine work here. I will personally thank you for it, although it sounds like you receive plenty of positive reinforcement from the powers that be!
Enjoy your day!

Your implication was that anyone who is removed is removed for cause, was it not?
I wasn't referring to you specifically.
