They (TMC) are renting a ship (per their public filings) paid for by cash and convertible stock. Last I saw the ship was and has been anchored off the west coast of Mexico, just chillin
All Seas “Hidden Gem” anchored off the coast of Manzanillo

Just starting my research on TMC because it was being promoted as a pop up ad on iHub. What GITMO attention was the typical low resolution photo of the drill ship. I quickly found it and know a lot about the boat.
The owner of the vessel is AllSeas, totally legit with a specialized fleet
Here is the vessel - https://allseas.com/equipment/hidden-gem/
Yes, thank me, I saved one hours
Sure, I agree with you, as a speculation to buy for a dollar and sell for 5 sounds sweet! But is it a long term investment? Do they have the equipment to acquire and store and process. We're talking 100s of millions (billions?) of dollars needed before it makes $1.
There is gold in every drop of ocean water. However, it takes about $30,000 an ounce to get it, many great sounding ideas just aren't practical.
The day it becomes legal to mine their claims...this should easily pass $5!

Look at my profile you will see I enjoy picking risky stocks. You MUST study these type of company's before investing in them. You should not invest more than you can afford to loose.
In 1997 I invested $1800 to buy 100 shares in an unknown company called AMAZON. I also held shares in a pharm company symbol ARNA (Arena Pharm) at $4/share. It was bought out by one of the big Pharm company's for $100/ share. Risk should be my middle name. I am old and will leave my grand children enough to start out in life with a bundle behind each. Yes I have taken losses also but from each I learn enough to try to not get slammed on a big loss. Never criticize a company that has a good idea to start a company. I ran my own company for 35 years and started it on $100 and in 3 years turned it into over a million in sales each year which allowed me to retire under 50 years of age. Hopefully TMC will be another AMAZON.
Has TMC got the necessary ships etc to harvest underwater resources? I see permits have been held up, stock dilution has been crazy and cash burn last 4 quarters 100 million. Why in the world would anybody gamble with this?

Well that is bad news !!! Even the French who by the way wanted to invest so many Billions are now against it.
What did I miss here ? What happened for them to change their mind so quickly?
found it.
The International Seabed Authority, a United Nations observer organization, is drawing up a regulatory framework for deep-sea mining based on data collected from explorations conducted by TMC and other ventures to inform its decisions.
However, the prospect of such mining is coming under criticism. Most
recently, French President Emmanuel Macron specifically called for the prohibition of seabed exploitation during November's United Nations COP 27 climate change conference in Egypt. Previously, Germany, New Zealand and multiple Pacific nations have also called for moratoriums.
The ISA is expected to meet member nations in March, when deep-sea exploration and its regulations are expected to be discussed.
Edit-
Who is making this decision and when next month?
How can we track it?
Could be a nice run up to the decision.

It’s more than the EV market. It’s all the legacy automakers rushing to keep up with Tesla, so it’s the auto industry.
Ford sales were down last quarter their EV sales were up. Collectively legacy OEM’s have pledged 20 billion in battery factories and most of them are building a battery factory. It’s not EV sales it’s auto sales as we are finally starting to shift to electric cars.
Tesla is planning on 50k semis, then there’s stationary storage from Tesla and other companies.
Current terrestrial mining operations do not have capacity to meet coming demand.
Plus Build Back Better ensures that batteries must be made domestically from American mining. Every indication from TMC shows materials going to processing on the west coast.
The “mining” operations for TMC involved scooping these nodules up from the ocean floor as they’re not attached. So there’s no drilling, processing or runoff
You are right, environmentalists are concerned about the noise and sediment pollution on the ocean floor, but my prediction is this will be like most instances of extracting resources, the financial opportunity will prevail.
We’re talking about billions of dollars sitting on the ocean floor. We don’t have the capacity with current mining and we don’t have to time to open new terrestrial mines, they present even worse issues with regard to pollution and child labor. Just look to cobalt as an example.
Confounded. Been looking to invest here. But mining in the ocean?
Environmentalists turning a blind eye because it supports the E/V market????!!!!

The Metals Company (Nasdaq: TMC) (the “Company” or “TMC”), an explorer of lower-impact battery metals from seafloor polymetallic nodules, today announced that the International Seabed Authority has completed its review of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan (EMMP) submitted by its subsidiary, Nauru Ocean Resources Inc (NORI), and recommended that it proceed with its forthcoming collector test.
The conclusion of the International Seabed Authority’s review process allows NORI to proceed with its planned integrated pilot collection system trials in its NORI-D exploration contract area in the Clarion Clipperton Zone (CCZ) of the Pacific Ocean. NORI’s offshore strategic partner Allseas will test a system consisting of a prototype nodule collector at the seafloor and the riser system to bring nodules to the surface production vessel, Hidden Gem. Approximately 3,600 tonnes of polymetallic nodules are expected to be collected during the trial beginning later this month with an expected conclusion in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The trials will be monitored by independent scientists from a dozen leading research institutions around the world who will analyse the environmental impacts of both the pilot nodule collector vehicle and the nodule riser system. The data collected, together with many terabytes of existing baseline data collected by NORI throughout 16 offshore campaigns, will form the basis of NORI’s application to the International Seabed Authority for an exploitation contract.
Gerard Barron, CEO and Chairman of The Metals Company, commented: “Our team has worked tirelessly to produce an EIS, EMMP and integrate constructive feedback and recommendations from the ISA’s Legal and Technical Commission. With this green light from the ISA, the team of world-class engineers from Allseas and scientists from some of the world’s leading deep-sea research institutions that we’ve brought together can begin technology trials and our impact monitoring campaign. We have a couple of exciting and no doubt challenging months ahead of us. The environmental and operational data and insights from these trials will be an important step in ensuring the safe and efficient collection of polymetallic nodules to supply critical battery materials for the clean energy transition.”
Following the submission of its EIS to the International Seabed Authority in July 2021, the Republic of Nauru, the sponsoring state of NORI, undertook an open stakeholder consultation program to solicit comments and feedback. Based upon this feedback and with over 600 comments received, an updated EIS was submitted to the ISA in March 2022. Barron added: “I would like to thank the ISA’s Legal and Technical Commission for their detailed review and feedback which, together with stakeholder comments, has improved the EIS and demonstrates the robustness of the ISA’s regulatory review process.”
Previously, TMC and Allseas announced successful trials of the nodule collector vehicle in deep-water in the Atlantic [see video] as well as harbor wet-test commissioning and shallow-water drive tests in the North Sea.
Development of technologies to collect polymetallic nodules first began in the 1970s when oil, gas and mining majors including Shell, Rio Tinto (Kennecott) and Sumitomo successfully conducted pilot test work in the CCZ, collecting over fifteen hundred tons of nodules. More recently, contractors BGR and GSR conducted several trials of prototype nodule collector vehicles in deep water, and NORI’s forthcoming tests mark the first time this century that an integrated collection system – including a nodule riser – would be trialled in the CCZ.
