Tasker Receives USDA Consent to Commercialize Its Tasker Blue Poultry Scalder Treatment
Monday August 7, 11:26 am ET
DANBURY, Conn., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tasker Products Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board: TKER - News), a distributor and marketer of proprietary technology effective in inhibiting pathogenic bacteria, today announced that it has received a "Letter of No Objections" from the Food Safety and Inspection Service ("FSIS") of the United States Department of Agriculture ("USDA") to market its application for use in poultry processing. The decision by the FSIS follows months of tests and trials that validated the Tasker Blue product as safe and effective for use in inhibiting bacteria such as Salmonella in the scalder during the process of preparing poultry for sale to the public. The Company will now market its product to all poultry processing operations in the United States ("US") and also operations outside the US that accept US regulatory standards.
Early tests of Tasker's pHarlo technology provided encouraging evidence that it was effective at materially reducing or eliminating salmonella typhimurium, listeria monocytogenes, staphylococcus aureus, E coli, shewanella putrefaciens and pseudomonas fluorescens. The initial process for preparing poultry for packaging involves the use of scalding tanks in which the poultry are immersed in water of approximately 140 degrees Fahrenheit to facilitate the removal of feathers. The scalding tanks can become breeding grounds for cross contamination. Since Tasker's product is able to endure high temperatures, it serves as an anti-microbial agent, thereby eliminating a substantial amount of bacteria in the process.
The USDA is tightening its salmonella performance standards due to recent unfavorable trends in its industry-wide testing data. The USDA is encouraging the industry to adopt a multiple intervention strategy for reducing pathogens in poultry processing operations. Tasker's scalder treatment is an ideal complement to existing Chiller and On-Line Reprocessing treatments currently in wide use in the poultry industry.
"The USDA recently granted us temporary approval to market the product to a large poultry processor on the East Coast. The Letter of No Objections allows Tasker to market to all poultry processors that accept US regulatory standards," commented Richard Falcone, Tasker's president and CEO. "Our team of food scientists has worked diligently with the cooperation of the FSIS and the USDA to bring us to this point. We are already in the process of seeking regulatory approval for other applications for poultry processing aimed at different sections of the operation. We also intend to conduct tests over the next few months targeted at improving yields for poultry producers at the processing level."
As announced in 2005, Tasker has a licensing arrangement with Wynn Starr Special Products, LLC, through which Tasker Blue will be sold.
