Sketchy all day. Big vol. someone knew something. So I followed the money
Were you aware of the acquisition possibility or was it a straight chart play? Congrats on the 25% gains regardless!
Back in at $6
Lots of thick buyers in the $4.30's would be surprised if it significantly dropped below $4.25 nearly -40% on a reduced -10% outlook and actually posted profits (a victory for this company see history LOL).
It's not like they are going BK lmao. Choppy trading nonetheless until it settles.
I agree, I'm still watching but might jump in if it dips again.
glancing but not in depth, they did cut outlook but look at the they posted profits certainly way better than the multi-millions they lost in same quarter comparison from last year.
I'm in $4.35. Tight SL of course.
Some of the market panic during the first hour also had to do with the selloff I suppose too.
Any hope for a bounce off these levels??
Wow, low volume early, erasing yesterday's gains. Cmon, tech is up n great contract. More to come.

SGI DoD Contract!
SGI Awarded $27.8 Million DoD Contract
Air Force Research Laboratory DoD Supercomputing Resource Center Selects SGI(R) ICE(TM) X HPC System with Storage and Support as Part of Four Year Program
FREMONT, Calif., May 09, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- SGI (NASDAQ:SGI), the trusted leader in technical computing, today announced that the United States Department of Defense (DoD) has selected an SGI(R) ICE(TM) X high performance computing (HPC) system as part of its High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) to provide compute resources for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) DoD Supercomputing Research Center (DSRC). The agreement also includes storage and four years of support in a transaction valued at over $27.8 million.
The SGI ICE X compute solution selected will be housed in 32 M-racks and includes 2,304 IP-115 (twin) compute blades with cold-sink technology. It features 9,216 sockets (73,728 cores) powered by Intel(R) Xeon(R) processor E5-2600 series operating at 2.6 GHz and will boast a theoretical peak performance of over 1.5 petaflops. As part of the multi-year agreement the DoD has also selected SGI InfiniteStorage(TM) 5500 providing 6.72 PB of storage and operating on the SGI Lustre(R) file system. SGI Professional Services will also provide four years of technical support services.
"Breaking through the challenges faced by the DoD in research, acquisition, and operations requires increasingly powerful supercomputers along with the unique expertise and advanced communications infrastructure that the HPCMP provides," said John E. West, director of the DoD HPCMP. "SGI has long been one of our technology partners, and we look forward to extending that relationship with them over the coming years."
"SGI is honored to provide the AFRL DSRC with the compute, storage and services solutions required to take its compute capabilities to the next level," said Jorge Titinger, president and CEO of SGI. "The results of its work and research ensure that the men and women of our armed services will always have the best information, anytime and anywhere, to keep them safe and ensure the success of their missions."
The High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) provides DoD laboratories and Test Centers HPC capabilities and expertise through partnerships with the Laboratories and Test Centers. HPCMP resources are used to provide military programs with a competitive advantage for the design, operation and sustainment of new weapons systems; for example, preparing U.S. aircraft for overseas deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq, and assisting in long-term weather predictions to plan humanitarian and military operations throughout the world. The Air Force Research Laboratory is such a partner with the HPCMP by providing a world class HPC Center committed to providing the resources necessary for DoD scientists and engineers to complete their research, development, testing and evaluation projects. Since the organization's inception in 1996 the AFRL DSRC has supported the warfighter by combining powerful computational resources, secure interconnects, and application software with renowned services, expertise and experience.
"HPC customers such as the U.S. Air Force require the finest leading-edge technology to perform increasingly complex, data-intensive computations," said Rajeeb Hazra, vice president and general manager, Intel Technical Computing Group. "SGI's newest generation of its ICE HPC compute platform combines engineering innovations with the compute power of the Intel(R) Xeon(R) E5 processor family to create an efficient and extremely effective product for leading edge technology users such as these."

Cautionary Statement Regarding Forward Looking Statements
This press release contains forward-looking statements; including statements regarding SGI's guidance for 2011 financial performance, general business outlook and anticipated product performance and offerings. Any statements contained herein that are not statements of historical fact may be deemed forward-looking statements. Actual results may differ materially from forward-looking statements due to a number of risks and uncertainties including those associated with: SGI's more extensive international operations; economic conditions impacting the purchasing decisions of SGI's customers; SGI operates in a very competitive market, and increased competition and competitors' new products, have in the past, and may continue, to cause pricing pressure on SGI's products, which would negatively affect SGI's gross and operating margins, as well as other financial measures; a significant portion of the Company's revenues has come from a limited number of customers, and so the delay in placing an order, or the failure of a significant customer to place additional orders, could have a significant negative effect on SGI's financial performance; SGI relies on sales to U.S. government entities and has limited experience dealing with the U.S. government as a customer; SGI is unable to control component pricing, such as what our suppliers charge for central processing units, and, as has happened in the past, component pricing can rise unexpectedly, negatively impacting SGI's gross margins as well as other financial measures; and SGI may be required to write-off additional significant amounts of excess and obsolete inventory. Detailed information about these and other potential factors that could affect SGI's business, financial condition and results of operations is included in SGI's annual report on Form 10-K under the caption "Risk Factors," in Part I, Item 1A of that report, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") on September 8, 2010, as updated by SGI's subsequent filings with the SEC, all of which are available at the SEC's Web site at http://www.sec.gov. You are cautioned not to place undue reliance on forward-looking statements, which speak only as of the date of this announcement. SGI undertakes no responsibility to update the information in this announcement, except as may be required by law.
Use of Non-GAAP Financial Measures
The non-GAAP financial measures discussed in the text of this press release and accompanying non-GAAP supplemental information are financial measures used by SGI's management to evaluate the operating performance of the Company and to conduct its business operations. All non-GAAP financial measures discussed and presented in this press release excludes the revenue and associated costs of revenue deferred in accordance with Financial Accounting Standards Board ("FASB"), Accounting Standards Codification ("ASC", ASC 985-605 "Software Revenue Recognition" for certain of the Company's transactions where software is more than incidental to the overall product solution sold, as well as revenue deferred in accordance with FASB ASC 605-25 "Revenue Recognition – Multiple-Element Arrangements" where the selling price of a delivered product or service exceeds its fair value. Non-GAAP gross profit and gross margin also excludes stock-based compensation expense, amortization of intangibles, excess and obsolete and related (recoveries), and inventory step up arising from acquisition of substantially all the assets of Silicon Graphics, Inc. Non-GAAP operating expenses include Research and Development, Sales and Marketing and General Administrative expenses. Non-GAAP operating expenses exclude amortization of intangible assets, stock based compensation, restructuring and acquisition-related charges. Non-GAAP net income/(loss) per share excludes the same items as discussed above and, as well, the other-than-temporary impairment of equity investment and auction rate securities. Management presents non-GAAP financial measures because it considers them to be important supplemental measures of performance. Management believes that the excluded charges are not central to the Company's core operating performance and uses the non-GAAP financial measures for planning purposes, including analysis of the Company's core operating performance against prior periods, the preparation of operating budgets and to determine appropriate levels of operating and capital investments. Management excludes from its non-GAAP financial measures the items cited above, whether or not recurring, to facilitate its review of the comparability of the Company's core operating performance on a period to period basis as well as to better understand the fundamental economics of a specific period's operational and financial performance. Management uses this view of the Company's operating performance for purposes of comparison with its business plan and individual operating budgets and allocations of resources. Management also believes that the non-GAAP financial measures provide additional insight for analysts and investors in evaluating the Company's financial and operational performance in the same way that management evaluates SGI's financial performance. However, these non-GAAP financial measures have limitations as an analytical tool, as they exclude the financial impact of transactions necessary or advisable for the conduct of the Company's business, such as the granting of equity compensation awards and are not intended to be an alternative to financial measures prepared in accordance with GAAP. Hence, to compensate for these limitations, management does not review these non-GAAP financial metrics in isolation from its GAAP results, nor should investors. Pursuant to the requirements of SEC Regulation G, a detailed reconciliation between the Company's GAAP and non-GAAP financial results is provided at the end of this press release. Investors are advised to carefully review and consider this information as well as the GAAP financial results that are disclosed in the Company's SEC filings.

SGI: Technical Analysis (05/Aug/2004)
Hi ! Before you read this, you should take a look at my SGI Technical Charts, in order to understand this analysis:
http://globalspeculators.com/trading_futures/index.php?topic=14.0
Long Term Overview:
SGI is trading a lateral-triangular pattern for the long run, having 4 higher lows and 3 lower lows since 2001.
On the downside we have an ascending long term support, which has been tested last week (low of the year), in the other hand the upside resistance was tested in February (high of the year).
The contact with the support level has generated a first positive reaction, which is bullish.
Short and Medium Term Overview:
This time frame is bearish since last February…
The long term support test was on the $1.27 level, but the main reference for the last months is the $1.50 level, which can be considered a support for the next sessions ($1,50 level was a resistance during late 2003 and was a support level on May, making this number an important trading orientation)
There are several patterns running on this time-frames:
- A slim descending channel since late June
- A downside projection given in July, that has already been achieved on the lows
- An upside resistance on the $1.72 level
- A moving average bearish signal given on July.
- A buying signal given with the DMI (Dynamic Momentum Index) indicator
This situation can make a little confusion for the short run, but it’s possible to make a sort of trading plan using this clues…
Resuming:
Let’s keep the big picture in mind, and remember that we just had an important contact with the main long term support which is working since 2001…
This reference is now on the $1.28 level, and it’s possible that it will be tested again in the short term… this event can be interpreted as a Buying opportunity with the first short term target on the $1.72 resistance level.
In the other hand, a downside breakout of $1,28 would be very bearish, and will invalidate all the long term pattern.
To change the short and medium term trend, we need a confirmation with a close above $1.72, this may open the road to the long term resistance…
