You can pack away your rods and reels guys and get ya one of these.
I hear ya brother. The best thing you can do is in the future make sure the captain of your next charter knows what the deal is. And if he don't like it just find someone who does. The best thing for a commercial charter is repeat business with pleanty of referals.
Yeah, well I made sure that he knew my position and that it was the end of our business relationship (I had chartered with him multiple times before with no problem).
I just don't get it. It has happened before where people just apparently don't care about killing the golden goose.
All in the name of greed. I would of told the guy that I would not use his service anymore. Along with spreading the word for none of my gringo friends or their friends to use his service !
Nope. I paid the captain 8,000 pesos and the fish sold for something north of 4,000.
The captain later got pissed and told me that I can't sell fish anymore and that they should go to him. The day prior I gave the guy an extra $200 USD to go an extra 30 miles offshore and then gave him a 1,500 peso tip along with about 300lbs of fish. He said that I shouldn't consider fish as part of the tip.
First off 1,500 pesos would have been around $120 and second when he is selling the fish (which he did) and making $200-400 on it, well you get the point. It isn't like sharing some fish for them to take to their families and eat.
Last time I charter him, which is unfortunate.
ok, thought you may have been letting it bake without protection !!!
just out of curiousity, did the sale of the fish cover the charter ?
We ran out of ice for fish and had no place to put them. We had a towel over them that we kept wet.
We sold the fish to the local fish market and you can't sell them anything other than whole.
40 pesos per kilo was the going rate.
Just curious, why didn't you ice the fish down ? I know I wouldn't be eating it after 3 hours in the hot sun.
Other than that, nice fish !!!!

Florida Advice Needed
I just arrived to Jacksonville last night to visit a buddy of mine from a deployment.
We want to go see the everglades and do some fishing, etc but don't want to spend mucho $$$. Any ideas? Camping is an option someplace but we'd need to get a tent, etc. Riding in a fan boat would be sweet.
If any of you have done something like that before or would recommend something I'd be interested to hear about it.
We're driving down to Miami next week for a cruise so we'll be down around the southern everglades already....
Thanks
getting ready to yank a gas tank this year.. got to show the old boat some love.. maybe a pinky will pop for a new canvas.. and some new batteries..
bout all pinkys are good for..

I would have thought they would wade thru the shallow water and gig them.
Phil
take the boat and a spotlight ...pole along the shoreline....when ya spot a flounder with the light ya gig it ...
What do you do? Tie a yak bowline to your waist and tow it around?
Phil

Fishing in FL this month -
So I'm flying down to visit an Army buddy of mine the middle of March. He doesn't have a boat and we'll probably go out to a pier around Jacksonville.
Any advice?
Apparently March is a big time for spotlight flounder gigging. We can go out for $425 overnight with some dude to gig flounder via spotlight, sounds like fun to me!
Very nice !!!
You lucky dog!
Congratulations on your promotion.
nice catch...
Well done, sushi for a year.

IDIOTS !!!!!!!!!
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS SYDNEY, Australia - Two Australian teenagers who found almost 100,000 Australian dollars ($87,000) in cash during a fishing trip have handed it over to police - after spending some time thinking about it.
The pair discovered the money earlier this month near the New South Wales town of Nimbin - a centre of hippie culture where members of numerous communes annually celebrate a festival to promote cannabis use.
The teenagers contacted police on Friday, after revealing the find to an unidentified adult they know and getting some legal advice, police said in a statement.
Inspector Greg Moore said police were investigating whose money it might be, and whether the stash of cash was linked to crime. "It could be proceeds of ill-gotten gains," Moore told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. on Monday.
Police had searched an area at Tuntable Creek where the teenagers found the money, but found no more cash and no clues, he said.
He said the teenagers, who were not identified, might be able to claim the money if no one else comes forward with a legitimate claim.
