Rockwell keeping costs in check
By: Liezel Hill
21st December 2009
TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Vancouver-based Rockwell Diamonds has managed to keep operating costs at its South African mines below target, despite pressure from a stronger rand, the company said on Monday.
Cash operating costs have remained below the target range of $3/t to $3,50/t, Rockwell said in a report focusing on the three months ended November 30, which is the company's fiscal third quarter.
The diamond-miner operates three mines in South Africa, and is looking at restarting a fourth, Wouterspan, which was put on care-and-maintenance because of weak market conditions earlier this year.
"Over the past twelve months changes and enhancements to our operating procedures, plants, and business model, and focus on cost reductions, training to increase productivity, improved communication in tandem with efforts to emphasize safety and health in the workplace have led to increased production, reduced costs, and enhanced our excellent safety performance,” said CEO John Bristow.
“We continue to focus on ensuring that the company is operating at better than break-even point and is positioned to return to profit and grow as diamond prices improve.”
Rockwell said production in October, November and December was was slightly lower than the preceding months, because of heavy early summer rainfall, but expects output to improve in the drier mid-summer period and into the 2010 winter period.
Unlike last year, when the firm opted for an extended shut-down of operations during December and January in response to the very weak market for rough diamonds at the time, Rockwell plans to continue running its mines through most of the holiday period.
“Agreements between organised labour and management have facilitated a brief closure over the Christmas and New Year period thereby minimizing production decreases,” the company said.
At the shuttered Wouterspan mine, Rockwell has started planning, design drawing and costing of a project to modernise the operation's pan plant.
The company plans to implement a phased program to replace the existing 12-pan rotary pan plant with four to eight larger (18-foot) rotary pans, similar to the set-up at its Saxendrift plant.
Rockwell also reported on Monday it has received two awards for safety – the company was awarded first place in the Northern Cape Mine Managers Safety Competition, run by South Africa's Department of Minerals and Resources, while employee MacDonald Matabogi was awarded the gold medal and trophy for the best overall safety representative at the competition.

Soon as I get some cashed raised I'll join you..... everything is turning red today !!! Arghhhh ! This companies worth a try.... Ive been reading all I can....seems to have a good future....
Good plan, I'm joining you in adding to my position....
Listening to Conference call right now...... 20 minutes into this and the share price should be going up....future looking good.... They are in a break even area now going to profit territory future....... IMO this is a surviving company of the past year..... wait for steady gains..... !!!
yes, i was on the phone with Rockwell early last week, and they mentioned they had been speaking to some potential backers.
Well the report they sent out looks like they want to find a partner to merge with.....This could be very good ! IMO

Lets hope Rockwell puts out some sweet press re: new $$$ backing to help pull through tomorrow. Overall not bad news, looking like things are getting better!!
If you look at the breakdown on the press about expenses, production, and costs, its really only a matter of time. With the price of diamonds going up, the costs coming down, and people coming off the "crisis" and spending a bit, I think we are in for a good ride on this. The support will come, and hopefully the "dripped" in shares from the past are gone so the sp will continue to rise.
oopps... don`t worry, PPS reflects the future and not the past.
Javadreams!!! LOL !! Ok maybe I like this company!!!

October 7, 2009, Vancouver, B.C. Rockwell Diamonds Inc. (“Rockwell” or the “Company”) (TSX: RDI; JSE: RDI; OTCBB: RDIAF) announces the appointment of two new independent Directors.

sounds not good!
The Company realized a loss of $6.6 million for the six month period ending August 31, 2009 compared to a net loss of $3.1 million for the comparable period in the prior year. The loss was due to the collapse in the diamond market and precipitous decline in diamond prices that commenced in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009 due to the ongoing global credit crisis and economic recession, resulting in weakness of diamond prices through the first two quarters of fiscal 2010. There has been an overall improvement in prices of about 15 to 20% from the initial sharp fall of about 50% in the last quarter of fiscal 2009.
The Company has survived the
storm, Should see that northern movement Friday.
Rockwell will see some volume and price move tomorrow. Today is the day after close. Losing unprofitable status.
very positive news releases, here is the word from management.
--------
President and CEO John Bristow stated, "In spite of the world economic
recession, precipitous decline in diamond prices, and costly
unforeseen corporate activity, Rockwell has demonstrated its ability
to rapidly adapt to these challenges. The Company has survived the
storm, significantly improved its operating skills and abilities,
increased production through smart mining and clever plant
improvements, and lowered its operating cost structure. The
improvements set in place have ensured that the Company is operating
at a break-even point and is well placed to return to profit and grow
as diamond prices improve further."

So now we wait... What effect will the turn of loosing to breaking even have on the sp???? I'd say UP!
I'm in Rockwell 50,000 as well.. Tomorrow will be interesting..
Im holding 50,000 shares so far, I think its time to buy more.
Thats my thought also ! And also got a report today from my paid advisor....he says buy this now....solid company. I like his take because he's paid to bring results to clients, not paid by companies to pump..... just a fyi there for you all...... still keep and eye on developments but right now looks good IMO
Thats Great news, thanks for the heads up. seems Now is the time to buy or be left out in the cold..
Alert ! Obi from TRENDFINDERS just gave me a nice heads up.... SEC filing today ! http://pinksheets.com/edgar/GetFilingHtml?FilingID=6838689
A quick read looks good.....still reading
Rockwell has some solid background, has been cutting production costs, and sounds like they have investors to push further. Great buy in at these prices, I'd say the true value is closer to $0.30 - 0.35 range short term..
Ok...just hit ask at 4000 shares....now lets run another 50% !!!! I just read a report from my paid advisor and he loves this company..... Gave me a Buy signal today regardless of signals or price.... Good luck !
I've had "below ask" orders in for entire days just in "hope" to pick up a few more shares but never filled...
Good morning all ! Been trying to sneak in at bid all morning wont go..... May have to hit ask ya think??? LOL
GLTA
RDI just needs a small push to break the resistance of the .09 level.

Rockwell news out this morning seems to be a huge positive. I was just about to come in here and post, Poker beat me at that!. Any thoughts on the companies plans to reduce costs and cutting staff? Production still is up - so not really effecting that at all?
RDI
Rockwell Operational Update: Recovers 122, 120 and 105 carat stones from Saxendrift Monthly production exceeds 2500 carats
RDI almost 5 million shares traded so far, might pop at anytime now. something is in the making here..
RDI The company has already increased production levels within its existing facilities, and managed to boost output to more than 3 000 ct in September from its three operating mines, well above the targeted 2 500 ct,
Rockwell News out this morning, looking good!!
So.. just as I am finished writing the past post on Rockwell, I get this link...
http://www.miningweekly.com/article/rockwell-signs-up-coo-looking-to-boost-diamond-output-2009-10-07
I spent a good amount of time on the phone with Rockwell PR yesterday. Sounds like the "heavy hand" that once had 20+% of the company is almost out of shares.
They have been dripping shares into the market since the attempt at takeover, and according to insider trading reports, as of last month they only had 4% left of their original 20+% shareholdings. Seems like with the volume happening, and the increase seen in the past few days, that those shares are almost gone, or done. From the information provided.. and new news, seems like the time for Rockwell is coming. Easily should see a .20-.30 range soon, long term.. who knows..
Lots of information available for the company, and charts look like they have alot of upside potential. Worth a look...
no...I move next days...in two weeks maybe back...till then I will have some figures
