Revett CEO: ‘Next Few Weeks Critical at Troy Mine’
Lincoln County copper and silver mine has been closed since December
By Justin Franz, 07-15-13
Miners at Lincoln County’s Troy Mine are developing a new underground tunnel to reach copper and silver ore, according to Revett Minerals, Inc. CEO John Shanahan. If that effort fails, Shanahan said it could be a year before the mine reopens.
Production at the Troy Mine stopped in December after a series of rockslides. In May, Revett laid off more than half of its work force and today about 75 people are working at the mine.
“We’re still hopeful that we’ll be able to get back into operation,” Shanahan said. “We’re taking our time, but we’re committed to running a safe and viable operation.”
Shanahan said crews are developing a tunnel called the “D drive” and the next few weeks will be critical in knowing if the new route to the ore will be adequate. If miners can use the D drive, production could begin during the fourth quarter of 2013.
“That would be the very, very best situation,” he said.
But if the D drive does not work, Shanahan said a new tunnel would have to be constructed and that could take a year to complete. Even with all of the delays, he said the Troy Mine is still a viable operation. The mine first opened in 1981 and closed in 1993. Revett reopened the mine in 2005. The company is also developing a larger copper and silver mine near Rock Creek."

This rvm situation is unusual-an earthquake blocking production this long- wasnt expected by insiders because Timothy? kept buying in March? for up to 2.10?
lieflub tries to stop all dd when they are targeting a stock for shorting-so I stopped my prem sub because my pm's, from the evidence, kept being censored-to see cwr- board I'm moderating google Brad Resnick or Ivonne Romero or Mayen Minerals
I have followed you for a long time on CWRN and wondered why you stopped posting on it, then the news came, so I figured you had an idea something was comming. I have tried posting questions to you on CWRN recently but they keep getting deleted.
not really why-i follow a lot of stocks-i dont usually post til I've followed something for 6 months at least and am too busy moderating another board on cwrn other than ihub to post on ihub cwrn much anymore-
RVM was recommended by some analysts a couple years ago when I started following it-and rock creek was said by the same to be a big mine in the making that was under the radar and a good investment-so I kept waiting for a good opportunity to jump into the pool and still am--
I figured from my reading of last PR before the layoff one and the transcript that they would announce another delay and thought about posting such but I didnt want to be responsible for peoples decisions in case I was wrong and didnt imagine it would be this long-because the market is one wild illogical beast as it is which I havent been able to wrangle yet
Now I know why you havent been talking on CWRN board.
An RSI of 8 (on a 10 day period)is really impressive-I suspected there would be another delay from reading of the conference call transcript but didnt expect this much delay.
Must be difficult conditions to take 8 weeks to drive 85 feet-so access maybe by July 1-and I know govt is slow in approval process(and we dont want a series of accidents/deaths as the Lucky Friday mine had) but its hard to imagine a delay from July 1 to 4th qtr before govt approval to officially recommence mining.
Dont know whether there will be a dead cat bounce or a further drop as other investors learn of this=tricky delving into the bottomless pit of investors minds.
Going to let it simmer 6-8 weeks and average down then if funds are available, risky, but buy fear I guess.
Stock getting hammered early on. It appears there are unexpected development issues at the Troy mine.
Thanks again, I did look at silver/gold this morning just to see what was going on. I had expected it to be worse. As a tradesman I know copper has its uses in all plumbing/electrical, it sure never seems any cheaper anytime I need some. The board sure looks a lot nicer, and seems very welcoming to new investors now. It's copper/silver paradise here, pull up a chair.
good to have a number of stocks-a lot of sharks, manipulation etc in the market, so have to be careful-
last time silver crashed it was probably manipulated by JPMorgan and CME raised the margin requirements then also as they have done in the last week-many big players pushing down metal prices to profit before next rise
all in silver costs for some miners are $24/oz-silver now 22.70-silver should be near bottom as it has many industrial uses
dont know what all in cost of copper is but copper is expected to rise back to $4 next yr
this will probably rise within weeks of restart-already had 1 expected delay re MHSA approval to restart

Hi Microcaps,
I have seen the website but not in a few weeks, I recently got back in the market, (March). Rough few years, resedential carpenter. Found RVM just searching, "under valued companys", if I had money I would average down, but It makes more sense to create a variety right now. Yeah be great to get rock creek going. (Seems hopeful in the wording I have read, but with permits, who knows). I did see the value, book, cash, insider buys, last years numbers, but im a 42 year old rookie invester, no CPA. Today was a buy, from my perspective. Good luck, thanks for chatting, guess I will see you around the mine. Metals and mining, as I am sure you know are just taking a beating, most likely an opportunity in a ciclacle fasion. I will go poke around the website again, see if anything seems new. I can't wait to get digging news, just a guess, but hope to climb a dollar or two soon after. GL
dont know about dividends until they get Rock Creek mine going-which will cost a lot to develop
from yahoo key statistics .83 p/s and .55 p/b shows a beaten down stock dealing w uncertainty
excellent CR 5.55; 28M Cash, 2 mil debt-- plenty of cash to carry them thru
I used to visit people in the area though I never saw the mine-get up to 15 feet snow in the mountains-top of mine no doubt has snow still-which caused a lot of trouble last spring
Have u looked at their website-I think light at the end of a nightmare of many years of permit battles is coming
Love the value here, wish I found bottom a little better. No hurry. Would like more before the operation gets going. Thanks, do you think this could (hold) as a divedend stock, with the values up like last year, or the other operation getting approval. Just wondering what others here are thinking. Plus this board was nearly dead, it will be nice to have the board alive, even if the mine isn't.
just the last PR-govt approvals always slow things down-expected startup by end of 2nd qtr-
Any news on the mine? Stock had a cave in too. Be nice to hear something. It has been a while.
p7 "are working with the MSHA to inspect the mine and develop alternate travel and haulage routes that bypass the affected areas",
whereas the local news story made it seem they were going to remove the blockages -but mine manager said he had no idea what blockages were yet.
How low does this one go with the mine closed?
Found this from the insiders buy list.
What is the pitch of this company?

Annual report.

Somebody posted that cash decreased. NOT TRUE
Cash and short term investments on hand increased to $
28.3 million, a 12% increase over cash on hand of $25.2 million
as of December 31, 2011.
Where'd you get those numbers ?
"Revett Minerals reports FY12 net cash from operations $18.7M vs. $28.2M in FY11"
Looks to me like they're totally bogus. The net cash from the 2011 Annual Report was $21,769 and the 2012 report won't even be out for another quarter, plus... not until the end of March.
Their cash position looks OK... more cash on hand, looks better this year than last... if not better in cash from operations comparing 9 month to 9 month... which you'd expect with metals prices lower in 2012 vs. 2011.
They'd not shut down the mine until mid December, so there's no chance of seeing any impact from that in any numbers you can see at this point.
I did note a subsequent event reported:
" 13. Subsequent event
On October 15, 2012, the Cabinet Resource Group, a regional environmental organization, voluntarily dismissed its pending lawsuit against DEQ, the Company and Troy Mine, Inc. in Montana state court, with prejudice. The lawsuit, which was filed in 2007, alleged that Troy was being operated in violation of Montana law due to deficiencies in its reclamation plan, and that the defendants had violated the Montana constitution and various state statutes and regulations by allowing such operations to continue. The Company had continually maintained the complaint was without merit."
already jumped out last week, So......

Troy mine update: (this is the right course of action in my opinion)
Revett Minerals Inc. (TSX: RVM)(NYSE MKT: RVM)(NYSE Amex: RVM) provides an update on monitoring activities at its Troy Mine in northwest Montana.
All underground activities were suspended by the Company in mid December, 2012 following the assessment of unstable ground conditions in non active mining areas that the Company deemed unsafe for the continuance of day to day underground operations.
In the past two weeks, the Company has worked with The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to install seismic monitoring devices. Data collected over the past two weeks suggests that ground conditions have stabilized. Based on this information, the Company will seek to re-enter underground workings in order to complete inspections of underground infrastructure and equipment and to install further geophone monitoring devices. The Company will present an inspection and monitoring plan to MSHA this week for authorization. Company personnel will not be able to re-enter underground workings until MSHA has authorized the inspection and monitoring plan.
At this stage, we cannot give a firm date when operations will resume. While we have no reason to believe that main infrastructure or equipment has been damaged, we cannot be sure until an underground inspection has been made. The Company will continue to work with its geotechnical consultants along with Federal agencies such as MSHA and NIOSH in the assessment process and provide an update once a firm timeline has been established. The Company will provide 2013 operations guidance once a date to recommence operations has been set.
John Shanahan, President and CEO stated, "These geotechnical issues have presented a challenge over the past few weeks. We are looking to get back to production as quickly as possible, but we must follow prudent procedures to ensure that the resumption of underground activities is done correctly and safely. We thank everyone for their patience."
Revett Reports Q3 2012 Production

2,361,915 pounds averaging throughput grades of 0.42%.
-- There were a total of four lost time incidents reported during the third
quarter which resulted in relatively minor injuries. The MSHA calculated
Incidence Rate for the first nine months of 2012 is 4.64 as compared to
a national underground average for the first half of 2012 of 2.42.
John Shanahan, President and CEO stated, "Our third quarter operating results were very positive, with notable increases in silver production of 25% and copper production of 22% over the second quarter. Net cash from operations continues to strengthen our balance sheet and provide a solid basis for the Company as we continue development and explorations activities at the Troy Mine to open more working areas and extend mine life."
Development Update
During the third quarter, development efforts at the Troy Mine remained focused on the North C Bed Decline and access to the East Ore Body (Middle Quartzite).
Approximately 350 feet of development (of 1,650 feet in total) remains to be completed in the North C Bed drift. Once completed, a decline will be developed to access the I Bed zone which lies approximately 750 feet below the current C Bed workings. The revised I Bed development plan calls for a spiral decline from the North C Bed and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014 at a total cost of approximately $10 million dollars.
Development work by mining contractors to access the East Ore Body (Middle Quartzite) continues and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter. Renewed production from the East Ore Body is expected to commence in first quarter 2013 after extensive ground support measures and a secondary escapeway have been completed.
Exploration Update
Drilling immediately south of the current Troy Mine production areas continues to intersect copper/silver mineralization on trend with the Troy I Beds and JF Property targets. Drilling in the third quarter totaled 2,782 feet of core and results are pending detailed core logging and interpretation.
Directional drilling at the JF Property continued with 5,173 feet drilled in the third quarter and a total of 9,024 feet of core drilled year to date. Results of the drilling are also pending detailed core logging and interpretation.
A five year exploration plan for targets north and east of the Troy Mine has been submitted to the U.S. Forest Service and Montana DEQ. The plan is currently under review by the agencies.
The Corporate Reserve and Resource summary will be updated at year end with the expectation of extending the I Bed reserves at the Troy Mine.

At Revett, our environmental philosophy can best be described as “responsible use.” Like Teddy Roosevelt, we believe that with care and planning, we can utilize our natural resources to benefit today's generation while leaving a valuable natural legacy for the generations that follow.
Copper and silver ore play a vital role in today's modern world. It is used in computers, telephones, solar energy cells, electrical components, air and water purifiers, aerospace, and medicine. The challenge is to recover the ore in a responsible manner.
How does that work in practice? Before we move a single pebble, we have carefully planned the entire project. Working with regulators and scientists, we know how we will manage the operation to protect neighboring wildlife and habitat, how we will preserve water quality, how we will restore the landscape when the project is completed, and how we will monitor it for years afterward to ensure that the environment is protected.
As Theodore Roosevelt said, “In utilizing and conserving the natural resources of the nation, the one characteristic more essential than any other is foresight.”
We couldn't have said it better.
It is the mission of Revett Minerals Inc. to become one of the finest silver/copper producers in the industry while providing a safe, environmentally sound and fulfilling atmosphere for all involved. It is the philosophy of Revett Minerals that our integrity will not, for any reason, be compromised in pursuit of this goal.

That's why we're committed to building a connection with our neighbors and providing a clear and open view of the Rock Creek Project. By incorporating suggestions from stakeholders and following through with commitments, we hope to earn your trust as good neighbors.
This Agreement will establish and maintain lines of communications between the managers of Rock Creek and area residents to address any concerns and answer any questions they may have about the development and operation of the mine.
In addition, the Agreement will provide local groups, elected officials, and individuals with an opportunity to participate in decisions about the project that may affect their local community, economy, or environment.
For example, if the plan calls for us to move part of the Rock Creek Road, rest assured we're committed to working with our neighbors to make sure that what we do meets everyone's needs.
As part of this effort, we will be holding information meetings to keep our neighbors informed about the Project, and we're already meeting with local officials and groups to listen to their concerns.
Our commitment to being a good neighbor extends beyond Lincoln and Sanders counties downstream to the folks in Idaho. It is our hope you join our effort to ensure that Rock Creek will be a good neighbor.
If you're interested in working with your County Commissioners, who will take the lead in forming this advisory body, contact them and let them know you'd like to be a good neighbor also.
