The magazine said Richard Lehmann of Forbes/Lehmann is suggesting Shanghai Automotive Industry (SS: 600104; OTC: RAVEQ) may have General Motors (NYSE: GM) in its sights. Lehmann said that Kirk Kerkorian seems to be right on target, as General Motors has a market price "half its book value," making it "an attractive takeover candidate" for Shanhai Automotive, "which would like to become a leading exporter of cars. He notes that the two companies already have a strategic joint venture in China with the capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year. He said the Chinese could "shutter and write off GM's plants in the U.S." and have its "distribution network, technology and international operations for free, and could sell GMAC and gets most of its money back. ============================================================= Rankin Automotive Group, Inc. is a specialty supplier and retailer of automotive replacement parts, tools, supplies, equipment and accessories to professional installers, do-it-yourself customers and independent auto parts stores.
