Some washers don't have a belt which is why I asked what kind it was.
Glad you got it fixed.
Phil
belt fell off. i was just looking for ideas before i jumped into it.
thanks
I carry door shims and toothpicks in my tool box for just such reasons. Now I carry a folded up piece of tin foil too.
I have been using the toothpick fix for years on wood.
Never thought about using foil on metal screws though.
Phil
Thanks, it's been working great for me; from another post I wrote earlier:
"Thanks, it's been of the best things I have ever come up with. I have used it plenty of times and with great results. I think it works so well because not only does the foil make the screw/bolt thicker, but the foil mashes out and forms a very tight seal; a sort of lock washer effect. With so many things being made of cheap and thin metals these days I thought I'd better let my friends know of my find."
Great tip Gary.
Thanks,
Phil
What was it?
Phil
What kind of washer is it?
Phil
Edit: Brand name and model? Front Loader? Top Loader?
i figured it out
Loose Metal Screw/Bolt Tip - A couple of years ago I had to repair an aluminum fry pan my wife just wont throw away, the handle had come loose and I could fit it with a bigger bolt, or mash the hole to make it grip better. So, I thought about the toothpick and wood fix, and tried the same type of fix to the bolt. What I did was to wrap the bolt with aluminum foil so that it would not unravel when screwed into place, it worked like a charm, and it is still holding up. I have used this repair on many things since, and it's really quite handy for repairing aluminum and tin products as much of nothing else applies here. I've even used it on a screw that holds a scope to a rifle, it's been a year since that repair, and probably a hundred rounds of .762x54 have gone down the barrel of that M44 Mosin Nagant with the scope holding tight and true.
Phil, my washer dosent spin
any ideas? i have never worked on a washer before
I'm glad you figured out the problem John.
As always, we are glad to help when we can.
Have fun,
Phil
Hi Phil,
I actually reached a HUMAN voice this morning at Verizon. They found the "telephone-side" of the connection to be bad, & will have the line repaired by monday afternoon... At least the DSL side has been ok, so far. Hope I don't jinx it now! ;<}
Thanks for all your past & present efforts for all~
JohnD - seemingly in one mess after another....
John,
From IdJit's post, the first thing I would do is to go buy the cheapest handset you can buy at Wal-Mart or Radio Shack or wherever else is close to you, and plug it in to see if you have a dial tone.
If you do, it's your handset.
If you don't it's your phone line.
Phil
Id,
Great advice.
I think most portable phones have a reset button somewhere on either the base station or the handset.
Per your advice to John, he might have to dig out the owners manual.
Phil
I forgot to tell them that I had DSL~ It IS with Verizon also, match~ Now I'm wondering what they tested. It is so DAMN difficult to talk to a LIVE person, but I guess that is what I'll have to try to do today. The DSL side is fine, just the phone line w/no dial tone. ;<} Is it possible that the splitter has gone "bad" ??
Thanks,
JohnD
DSL and POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) are common in that they share the same pair of wires that come into your house. They are very different in how they work.
POTS is an analogue audio system (300 to 3,000 Hz [cycles per second]).
DSL is a digital RF (Radio Frequency) system.
Your “DSL splitter” isolates the DSL RF signal from the analogue POTS signal.
If Verizon tested your DSL connection, your POTS may not have been tested.
If so, back to square one.
Any other phones in the house that may be not hanged up properly?
Going on three decades ago, our now oldest son disabled our POTS for three days or more… It took my wife that long to discover it. The then Rug-Rat stuck something into an unused phone jack and managed to short out the connection to the two working wires by moving a terminal wire in the connector jack to the other operative wire.
Id
I (naturally!) didn't describe everything enough. The Verison DSL line has a splitter, & the DSL is fine, but the phone has died, & has no dial-tone. I have tried unplugging & reconnecting everything, at the damn phone, with no change~
I hop that I've explained it better~
Thanks for your efforts.
TIA,
JohnD - land-line dead ....
Well John, there’s always the ‘hard’ reset procedure.
Disconnect the AC wall wort (power supply) and let the base station sit for a minute. Also remove (larger) batteries from the phone and base (if the base has removable battery backup) and let them sit also.
Reconnect power and batteries and Put the handset on its cradle for a minute.
Then test for dial tone and functionality.
If no go, disconnect the phone line from the cordless and dial in from the cell.
It should `ring’ as per the cellular (not busy) if the line is OK.
Reconnect the phone and dial in again. If now busy, the cordless base (perhaps via the handset) is tying up the line.
Verizon claims the line tests fine.
They didn’t give you any info as to whether the line’s end was `off hook’ and timed out?
Cordless phones and base stations usually have to `talk’ to each other agreeing on a digital `code’ so that a neighbor with a similar model of phone cannot use your phone line… (Like as with wireless internet.)
Usually this is as simple as putting the portable phone on the base cradle for a suitable time. Incompatibility of the base and handset should not cause the line to be busy though. They can't communicate with each other so there is no reason for the base to go `off-hook'.
I hate to say this, but you may have to dig out the “Fine” Owner’s Manual for the phone and read it concerning troubleshooting and resets.

Edit:
Everyone should have a cheapo plain old telephone (Not AC or battery powered) for emergencies even as minor as this. Telephone companies’ central offices provide power for basic telephones. In a widespread power outage that affects the phone companies’ central offices, these batteries usually can provide power for two or more days. They may also have generator backup.
If your power goes out, fancy phones quit. The cheapos will still work as they are powered by the phone company through the phone line.
Anybody telephone-smart ? I've got a cordless phone that has no dial tone all of a sudden. If I call the number from my cell, I get a busy-signal. Verizon claims the line tests fine. I don't have another phone to check the line. Anybody got any ideas ?
TIA,
JohnD - phone-challenged~

A Woman at the Hardware Store
Harry was repairing a door and found that he needed a new hinge, so he sent his wife Mary to the hardware store. At the hardware store, while waiting for Carl, the manager, to finish waiting on a customer, Mary noticed a beautiful teapot on a top shelf. When Carl was finished, Mary asked, "How much for that beautiful teapot, Carl?" He replied, "That's silver and it's $300!" "My goodness, that sure is a lot of money!" Mary exclaimed. Then she proceeded to describe the hinge that Harry had sent her to buy. Carl went to the back room to find it. From the back room Carl yelled, "Mary , you wanna screw for that hinge?" Mary called back, "No, but I might for the teapot."
Have fun,
Phil

TO ALL:
A great Ihubber, Goldman450, passed on last evening and his wife, Robin, posted to Centual Sue and myself about his passing.
This is her post to Sue:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hi sue, I did try to write to you last night but honestly, I am numb.
Please ask Phil and yourself to pick in Rob's name. Nascar was everything to him.
He'd not want to miss his picks!
Robin

This is her post to me:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hello,
This is Rob's wife Robin. I am very sorry to tell you this but Rob passed on this afternoon. He passed away in his easy chair just as he wanted.
I had just gotten done holding him to tell him I loved him when he passed. It was very sudden, but he just went during his sleep and was very calm.
I'm so sorry. He spoke highly of all of you. I tried my very best for him, but he just went.
Robin
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The moderators on the NASCAR board, and Sue, will pick for him next year, and if history tells us anything, he will win the contest next year just like Marie did the year she died.
Must be divine intervention, whatever.
We are going to have a Memorial service for Rob (Goldman) tomorrow evening on the NASCAR board, and request that anyone that cares, please stop by and say goodbye to him.
http://investorshub.advfn.com/boards/board.asp?board_id=3206
Also, we are requesting that anyone that knew him or traded posts with him please, please send a PM to his account so his wife can read the posts at her leisure and see how much we cared about him.

hey I am trying to repair my magic chef oven for thanksgiving. The botton bake element is not working. I checked the element and it seems ok so therefore is my only solution of the issue the thermostat?
I need a definite anser cause Ill have to order from a distributer so will not be able to return the part if it is the incorrect part like I would if Home Depot, etc. carried this stuff.
Note to self: Need a 7404p105-60

they want to!
Know why most husbands die before their wives?
THEY WANT TO!!
You have to keep the ladies warm and comfortable or they will make your life miserable.
LOL
Phil
im just hoping it stays warm for a couple more days. my lady might get upset enough to make me call the man
I can imagine.
Thankfully, my next door neighbor works for a mechanical services contractor and when I need something done, if he can't do it, he asks one of his friends to come over.
He really saves me a lot of money.
Phil
not going to right now. he's alot cheaper than calling the company
You better not push him.
You don't want him to get overworked.
LOL
Phil
