Because there are a lot of people who would like to drive with a sexy beautiful eye-catching car instead of a small woodshed that even a wind would blow it off the road. I'm sure they know what they're doing, no reason to doubt.
Not sure why they are going all-in on the Gravity SUV first, instead of focusing on the smaller version for commuters. We must assume they have done extensive market research and feels that two-earner families are more likely to buy than the 20 and 30 somethings that want to show off a flashy new vehicle. The younger generation is not putting money into retirement accounts the way previous generations have, and are opting for the YOLO lifestyle choices. I think Lucid management is a little out of touch with the market. Thoughts?
They are offering another 262M shares, but the PIF and others are wanting to buy 374M shares. Looks like a wash to me, with PIF inching up their ownership percentage at a discounted price.
Look at EVGO action today, as an example of subsidies.
With all of the tensions in the Middle East, how long before the U.S. government starts throwing money at Lucid, to wrestle some control away from the Saudi fund?
Can we get some positive surprises? How about an earlier release date for the smaller, more affordable, Tesla competitive vehicle.
Been a lot of news about people dumping the Tesla junk cars.
Yes, the worker problems will need to be addressed. I would think they will hire contract workers from outside the country, to do the heavy lifting, and to train the local employees.
Okay me bad, I apologize, I thought you were talking about Casa Grande.
Lucid isn't building any vehicles in Saudi Arabia (KAEC) King Abdullah Economic City, only subassemblies. Eventually and yes this location is on the Sea. Great place to ship vehicles all over the world.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Abdullah_Economic_City
The one problem I see with building a factory in Saudi Arabia producing EVs is the talent and work ethic? Hopefully I'm wrong, as Peter Rawlinson may see something I don't? It could be too that the Saudi Government wants their people to work for a living rather than be given everything? Big Oil $$$ has influenced their lifestyles. people can change if given the right incentives.
I was referring to the Saudi plant, as a shipping origin for Europe.
Hi TucsonPhil,
How does a place like Casa Grande make for a good shipping point to European Markets? It's like saying Missoula, Montana is a good shipping point to European markets? I'm a native Arizonan and a fan of Lucid as I own shares, but I don't understand your point?
Don't get me wrong, I like Casa Grande and Lucid being in our state. Casa Grande has one railroad line and I-10 unless you know of something else? Magic carpet maybe? Inland waterway?
How do the cars get shipped economically? It has to be by Rail or Truck. Shipping by sea directly saves money. Maybe that's why Detroit besides being close to steel mills and the Great Lakes shipping is still in business, besides of course having plenty of skilled labor.
I ask the question? Why Casa Grande, AZ? I would venture to guess that land prices to build Lucid's factory had a lot to do with it? Plus, Casa Grande is between two large metropolitan areas with two major Universities nearby? UofA and ASU both have Engineering Colleges, however;
"ASU's Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering is the largest and most comprehensive engineering program in the United States."According to the following;
https://www.google.com/search?q=compare+asu+engineering+to+university+of+arizona+engineering&oq=Compare+ASU+engineering+to+University&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgBECEYoAEyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRigATIHCAMQIRigATIHCAQQIRigATIHCAUQIRigAdIBCjI1NDE5ajBqMTWoAgiwAgE&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
So, two biggies; Land and Talent. Other factors are; Cheap labor, housing and food availability. Think about setting up a factory in Los Angeles California? If the "Red tape"doesn't kill your project, finding a dependable labor force, a decent place to raise a family, affordable housing, dedicated work force and not losing your employees to a competitive job market would surely doom you. Why do you think Elon Musk moved to Texas from California?
Barron's article: DJ Update: Tesla Stock Drops. Four Things That Might Be Moving Shares. -- Barrons.com
"This content was created by Barron's"..... Might & Created two buzz words that say "here's what we think" don't you agree? Even though I don't mind the publicity "Lucid taking the mantle from Tesla." What I really detest about the liberal media is they manufacture lies and try and tell you it's the truth. It's like watching Jim Cramer, if you didn't know any better, most people think his opinion matters?
The Saudi net worth is $1.4Trillion, Volkswagens net worth is $55.24Billion.
Who has the deepest pockets?
Who answers to BOD and Shareholders?
Who’s going to win the battle for market share?
Lucid does have a lot of shares OS
They make a beautiful car “Air”
I saw one in Phoenix, it definitely caught my eye.
Agreed, and their plant makes for a good shipping point to European markets. I see the Casa Grande plant as an export supplier for points south, and overseas rather than the U.S. market.
The Saudis have come to the realization that the west is too busy swordfighting rather than commit, so they will target the mid-east market, starting with their own homeland. That's why they built that mega-factory in KAEC. I spent a lot of time in the region (Kuwait, Bahrain, Dubai, Fujarah, Qatar) and Hummers, Ferraris and Lamborghinis are always parked outside McDonalds and Dunkin' Donuts. There is a lot of personal wealth across the region and they love their toys with the latest technology.
I see the Saudi's playing the long game, by keeping them up and running, while less well-funded EV companies falter and go bankrupt.
It appears they are just playing a cold-war style arms race against the competition.
Building production plants in a deflationary environment has some advantages. Goods, services and materials are less costly. Buy the materials you need during these periods, at a discount.
In light of the current economic environment, I don't think the share price will fare well this year, but does create buying opportunity for whenever the market bottoms out.
Lucid's forward thinking allows for success in the coming years. They have the funding now!
The $1.5 billion investment from Saudi Arabia’s PIF should certainly set them up for success next year.

Lucid (LCID) shares are soaring in after-hours trading after reporting better-than-expected second quarter revenue. The EV maker also announced it has received a $1.5 billion commitment from the Public Investment Fund, Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund.

Today marked another step forward in our company’s journey.
This afternoon, fresh out of our state-of-the-art paint shop and resplendent in stunning Infinite Black, the first Lucid Gravity SUV pre-production bodyshell dropped down from the roof conveyor onto the main production line at our factory in Casa Grande, AZ, reaching a significant milestone on our path to full production.
This marks the beginning of the Lucid Gravity pre-production run on our assembly line. Each unit will help us perfect the process and will be used for final validation testing to ensure top-tier build quality in full-scale production. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to prepare for the start of Lucid Gravity's production.

Further retreat, as tech markets are experiencing pullback this week. Long-term will be up. Waiting for next release, hopefully showing more Saudi share acquisition. This is a short squeeze waiting for a player.
I was a happy flipper this week. Until yesterday lol. I have a fair amount as a long hold as well. Just a bump in the road imo.
What is the concensus this morning? Bounce today? Or further collapse?
The electric vehicle, and green/renewable energy economy future is in jeopardy with a climate-change-doubting administration. Subsidies will be cut as first order of business.
What did I miss? What happened today?
i might regret those covered calls i wrote for next friday at $5
lcid was wild today
Now let’s bring back the days of February 2021, $58/share and let’s go up from there.
I know, I know, “patience lil grasshopper.”
It will be. Been with them since $cciv days.
barring BK, the bottom is in for LCID
Defying Gravity, pun intended.
Ah “Liechtenstein” forgot about it. Quite an amazing route
They drove through 9 countries. Here is one article stating the countries.
https://gomechanic.in/blog/lucid-air/
I believe it was eight countries. Regardless, very impressive.
You can see the animated video of the journey here:
shame they don't tell you the 9 countries in 567 miles they went “through”.
Junk or huge potential? .......Thanks!!!
Is this due to the tariffs on Chinese EVs?
Yes, I would love to see a positive earning report, let’s go Lucid! They make a superior E.V., it should be recognized.
At some point shorts will be heavily damaged. The direction of this stock price has made them a lot of money, so I suspect they will exit before they lose all of their profits.
It would be nice to see an earnings surprise for this quarter.
Shorts are going to have to pay up and it goes up! Thank you
