Revs were flat. Shorts are gonna pound it.. IMO
stock taking a hit after hours...
since revenue appears to be right about at estimates. No data on EPS - that comes later. Appears stock will be down and may test 15 again - never know though. Holding here - believe news comes on Starfruit shops and more distribution agreements that will send up higher..

MORTON GROVE, Ill., Oct 03, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Lifeway Foods, Inc., (LWAY:Lifeway Foods Inc
LWAY 18.65, -0.61, -3.2%) , makers of a nutritious, probiotic dairy beverage called Kefir, announced today for the third quarter ended September 30, 2007, total consolidated sales increased 32% to approximately $9,820,000 from $7,457,000 during the same period a year ago. This increase in sales was driven by another strong sales increase of Lifeway's Kefir line of 28% and the remainder coming from the sales of the Helios Kefir line and Pride of Main Street's milk line. The Helios brand Kefir line, which had sales of approximately $1.183 million in the third quarter 2007, grew about 9% from the same quarter in 2006.
Julie Smolyansky, Lifeway's CEO, commented, "The third quarter 2007 was another outstanding quarter for Lifeway Foods. Both of our main brands, the Lifeway and Helios Kefir lines, had their best quarters in terms of revenues ever. We are seeing that Kefir continues to grow in popularity and expect that the fourth quarter will be our strongest ever."
About Lifeway Foods
Lifeway, recently named Fortune Small Business' 97th Fastest Growing Small Business, and one of only 4 companies to ever be named to the list four straight years in a row, is America's leading supplier of the cultured dairy product known as Kefir, and now America's only supplier of Organic Kefir. Lifeway Kefir is a dairy beverage that contains Lifeway's exclusive 10 Live and Active probiotic cultures. While most regular yogurt only contains two or three of these "friendly" cultures, Lifeway Kefir products offer more nutritional benefits. Lifeway offers 12 different flavors of its Kefir beverage, Organic Kefir and SoyTreat (a soy based Kefir). Lifeway recently introduced a series of innovative new products such as Pomegranate Kefir, Greek-style Kefir, a children's line of organic Kefir products called ProBugs (TM) in a no-spill pouch in kid-friendly flavors like Orange Creamy Crawler and Sublime Slime Lime, and a line of organic whole milk Kefir. Lifeway also produces a line of products marketed in US Hispanic communities, called La Fruta, Drinkable Yogurt (yogurt drinks distinct from Kefir). In addition to its line of Kefir products, the company produces a variety of cheese products and recently introduced a line of organic pudding called It's Pudding!.

Small-cap health-foods maker Lifeway Foods (LWAY) leapt 3.07 to 19.90 — a new high — in hot trade. The stock is now 33% past its 14.98 buy point from a rebound off its 10-week moving average
52 week high on 52 week high in...
volume - couldn't ask for better. Puts it at front and center on IBD lists again. No doubt that strong institutional buying going on while short positions are at all time high. Watch out above.
"Make me rich or slaughter me, mediocre gains are not an option"
expect around 11/15/07, but...
should get nice PR on revenue before that. Great move so far, expecting it to break and hold above 19.
OldPro, Do you know when the quarterly earnings release will be? The last was July 5th, so I'm figuring possibly this week. Thanks.
Nice move today :o)
highest short position yet...
I believe - which is a fool's play IMO. Strong growth going to power this one forward. Large buyers just getting their feet wet and lurk to buy more at right time intervals IMO. We'll see.
LWAY: Short Interest UP 14.0% to 908.9K in Sep 2007
Tuesday , September 25, 2007 16:18ET
According to new short interest data from NASDAQ, short interest for Lifeway Foods, Inc. (NasdaqNM: LWAY) INCREASED 14.0% to 908,903 shares for the month ended mid-September, 2007.
think it tests the new highs...
this week and hope it breaks above and stays above 18 - that will mean we're continuing the bull run and it heads to the 20's IMO. So, hoping for high volume break above 17.8 to be precise and then it heads higher over next couple of weeks.
If tests 17.8 and fails will likely fall back to 15 area where we trade in a range for month or so - probably until earnings.
some good News and we break and run IMO.
LOL... It seems growing companies always have a big short position. Not sure why?
Key is growth... took a profit.. but will get back in again..
why you son of...
just kidding. Smaller players may be pumping it - bigger institutions buying quietly and at support levels IMO.
There is a big short position so some likely have ill intent - but they'll lose IMO. Company efficiencies are improving and truly expect strength in both revenue and EPS growth.
IBD numbers/ratings are unbiased and indicate the beginning of a long healthy run IMO. No one knows for sure though.
The risk right now...
It's scary when "they" are pumping the crap outta of it... You gotta wonder if "they" are shorting it? Just one flat rev Q will send this back to PE reality IMO...
Don't get mad at me pro.. I have my buy back in at $10.50
OldPro - that's an excellent point in that article, and one I'll admit I hadn't fully grasped with Lifeway.
I may finally add some shares if there's another mini-pullback.

LWAY up - dairy prices down...
Analyst: Dairy Prices to Drop in 2008
Thursday September 20, 3:19 pm ET
Dairy Sector Analyst Predicts Dairy Prices Falling in 2Q of 2008, but Stay Higher Than Normal
NEW YORK (AP) -- A dairy industry analyst predicted Thursday that dairy prices will drop by the second quarter of 2008, giving companies and consumers struggling with record-high milk costs some relief.
However, dairy prices are still expected to remain above historical averages, the analyst said.
"These higher prices are here through 2008 in my opinion and the opinion of many I've talked to," said Jerry Dryer, a market analyst at Rice Dairy LLC, a brokerage firm specializing in the dairy market, in a UBS conference call. "We aren't going to go back to the five-year averages very quickly."
The price producers and companies pay farmers for raw milk has been rising partly because of higher costs for feed for the cows and fuel to transport milk to producers. If farmers have to pay more to feed cows and transport milk to dairy producers, they charge more for the product.
In addition, low milk costs in 2005 and 2006 helped spur demand in the U.S. as companies and food service providers promoted dairy products, and demand for milk around the world increased, pushing prices higher.
Dryer said demand is not showing signs of slackening, particularly in the international markets since a weaker dollar has made products from the U.S a better value.
"We are now playing in the world market and in a major way," he said.
Dairy production, meanwhile, is only now starting to catch up. After rising about 1 percent in the first half of the year, production was up 3.4 percent in August, Dryer said.
That should help lower prices from year-ago levels, even if they remain historically high, he added.
Cheese, for example, will most likely cost $1.65 per pound in 2008, Dryer said. That price is lower than in June when it hit $2 per pound, but still higher than the five-year average of $1.37 per pound.
UBS analyst David Palmer said on the call that even if dairy costs don't drop below their historical averages, the lower prices year-over-year should mean companies that use a lot of dairy could see earnings rise if higher fuel costs don't offset the gains.
Palmer singled out fast food operator Yum Brands Inc., coffee chain Starbucks Corp. and food maker General Mills Inc. as three of the biggest potential beneficiaries of the lower costs.
Lower costs could also mean a drop in prices for consumers. Starbucks recently raised prices on its gourmet coffee drinks, citing higher diary costs.
nice bounce off of 15 and...
that could happen more than once - but I believe it will hold and then move up again to stay. no real resistance above.
sure do wish it was going up, but...
the key support level now is without a doubt 15.
Above 15 and it stays on IBD's main list and continues to receives attention - like today where it was once again bolded and highlighted in the main tables.
I believe if it nears 15 that those institutions who purchased will put up some level of fight to keep it above.
Perhaps more importantly is that IBD stated the other day in the LWAY chart that 15 was the "buy point" - which is the price at which they say LWAY is a very strong buy. doesn't mean it's not a buy higher, just implies that 15 is where you back up the truck - FWIW.
Stay above 15!!!

"Actions speak louder than words."
It's an old saying, with more than a grain of truth to it, I'll warrant. So why is it that when the Wall Street firms merely "initiate coverage" or "upgrade" their ratings on a company, that gets all the news coverage? After all, those are only words, when what really matters is how the big boys act. Luckily for Wall Street watchers, finding out which professionals put their money where their corporate mouthpieces are has become relatively easy in this Internet age of ours. All we have to do is read MSN Money's list of which companies the Street is most actively buying.
But once we've done that, what next? After all, "monkey see, monkey do" may not make for the soundest of investment strategies. That's where Motley Fool CAPS can help. The Fool's newest venture into the realm of collective intelligence collects ratings from more than 60,000 lay and professional analysts, then overweights the most successful raters' opinions to come up with a "CAPS rating" from one to five stars (five being the best). If Wall Street's buying and the smartest investors in Fooldom say they're right to do so, then that should get your attention.
And so, let's meet today's list of contenders:
http://www.fool.com/investing/value/2007/09/11/the-wall-street-buy-list.aspx
HANS, CROX, EASI (bought out)...
are just a few examples of insiders selling big while stock price soars. The most telling fact on insider selling to me is that IBD has analyzed the historic data and found that it's not strongly correlated to stock price performance. would have to review their exact findings - and they had an article on it and address it in the books - but they say don't let it scare you away from a stock or you'll likely miss out on the big winners.
She has many more shares that will appreciate in value. After watching insiders at HANS sell all the way up I do not get too concerned with insider selling, especially small amounts like this.

IBD accolades keep coming...
LWAY in bold-face and highlighted in stock tables today as a stock near new high with high ratings and high volume. It's an attention grabber in the paper.
she timed it well - but...
she'll lose out in no time as this is headed higher IMO. Funds likely have on buy list and just a matter of timing.

very true - the volume was...
the most troubling part of the pull-back. Ideally you'd want to see lighter volume on down days. However, it held above 15 and above the breakout level - so will have plenty of opportunity to claim it all back and more over the coming days. Still officially a breakout on higher volume that is holding above the breakout point - so strength over-rules weakness at this time.
It'll be interesting to see how LWAY responds next week. Today, the volume was enormous. Shakeout, perhaps?
nice video - great to get...
even more free publicity - thanks for the link.
CNBC Video link. I guess this is what a future billionaire looks like.

pullback, but above 15 so will...
continue to be listed on IBD main list and receive the attention of institutions. great week for LWAY and really making some noise. Splashed all over IBD and that is hitting the big time.
CNBC is in Chicago and did...
short tpiece on LWAY - CEO was on - didn't see it - heard it was positive.
Getting tons of attention.
LOL... yep.. already hit it!
good NEWS just keeps coming, now this...
analyst at Taglich Bros. increases price target to $19.20 from $16.25.
LWAY all over IBD paper again...
today - the #1 stock profiled in the "Your Weekly Review" section on page A7.
Has chart at top of page and states a highly rated mutual fund Gamco Westwood has 1.6% of the fund in the stock.
More free exposure. Things have never looked more promising IMO.
not sure, but LWAY was mentioned...
in 4 different sections of IBD: new highs, real most active, regular list, and the stock screens - that's big time free publicity to institutional firms. I expect IBD to run a story on them sometime over the next few months. Getting lots of attention in a short period of time.
good to hear...
hope many more to come. Must say that your buy-in was reassuring. Have used your insight on many stocks - and again, hope many more to come.
This company has many aspects that make it a potential big time winning stock if management continues to execute their business plan flawlessly.
Bill
This has been one of my best buys ever....
and thanks you pro for finding it...
really? you bought my self-rightous...
line of bull? I do believe it though - I think. anyway, guarantee that I'm holding. he, he.
sincerely - good luck to us all.
u r right..good work..my wife found this..never know!
used tons of discipline finding LWAY...
and put in countless hours of searching - oh the hours....
It takes discipline and belief to hold - belief that the tactics, knowledge and experience that went into finding and keeping informed on the company are meritorius and worthy of the conviction to hold. Selling is often wise and is also the conservative approach IMO.
Holding is tougher and takes conviction - he, he, he. Two ways to look at everything. Only have this kind of money on 2 stocks right now - and plan to hold. GLTY.
"make me rich or slaughter me - mediocre gains are not an option!"
kind of fun saying that.
that's how you get rich when it works out...I look at the chart and see many 50% pullbacks..like the stock..may split again soon, shorts, and new store buzz. all factors
best if we go sideways here...there is a 4 year cup formed and a handel would get me ALL in again.
I use discipline rather than hope...glta!
You're a true long... take the up's and down's out..
probably smart move...
except for the "greedy little pig" attitude of mine - I say make
"me rich or slaughter me - but mediocre gains are not an option!"
I may patent that phrase.
Using PEG of 2 and EPS growth of 45% - which is reasonable for rapid growth mode IMO - gives share price at:
(X/.36)/45 = 2
X= share price = 32
So stock price down here with blue skies above is not so unreasonable IMO.
It's now trading at forward PE of 45.... Market cap of $245 mil with $50 mil revs is high.. I think many will short it now... just opinion...
I think 18 is top... I'm gonna take some profits... again.. Not gonna give them back.. LOL
