I have a question about iHub's Level 2... It's been awhile since anyone has posted on this board, hopefully, there are a few that still come by here to answer.
Anyways, I noticed on the Trades section in the bottom-right area of the Level 2 page, sometimes when an order is placed there is the word 'burst' right besides the order size... can anyone explain what 'burst' means? Thanks in advance!
Whoops, I am an idiot. Got pizza on my mind I guess. It is www.thegreenbaron.com.
I don't see that Dustin...is the link correct? 'www.theredbaron.com.'? Anyways thank for the info.
You can view free L2 realtime quotes at www.theredbaron.com. You just need to refresh the page to update. Works with pink sheets.
I was just going to ask a similar question - I understand the shading answer, but why are some of the bids/asks green and others red?
thanks in advance.
i believe NITE mostly but can go with a few of them
I asked this very same question but didn't get an answer...I called the local Scottrade...and spoke to one of the Manager...but he too couldn't give me an answer.
I just start watching level 2 free realtime site at http://www.otcmarkets.com. But they don't have Time and sales information. I got Time and sales info at http://www.otcbb.com but they are delayed by 15 minutes. also it seem to miss many market makers.
questions
1. Where can I get realtime, bid/ask and Time and sales history in one place ?
2. Is there a better place to see Time and Sales Info ?
I am new to using level 2, under trades tab the priceing data shows up in blue red and green, what do the different colors mean?
It's a bit like playing poker online, you have no idea what programs algorithms etc are on the remote computers. Plus who is privy to watch all the data real time.
I'm sure it helps, but the plp who run the system have the most info / advantage.
Nope, there's no free level 2 for pink sheet! I used to ask the same question like you and have looked all over the net too...anyways, I have these two websites which provides free level 2 for pinksheet's stocks (but it's 15 min. delay): http://www.allstocks.com & http://www.hotstocked.com ...Hope that could help u. Most of the time you have to pay for the services...I have to pay $30 for mine level 2 and my some of my buddies have to pay from $49-$89 for the level 2 for pinksheet & OTC...
Does anyone here know the symbol of Scottrade for level II? I place an order on the pinksheet and I am wondering which of the following could be the symbol: SSGI, DOMS, DHSN, ETMM? I believe ETMM represents Etrade. Thank You!
I have level II for OTCBB and pink and NASDAQ. Today I was watching a NASDAQ security and the level II was not shown however, it was showing on other NASDAQ stocks. It was just this one ticker that was not showing. My question is what would cause this?
lol, no, i'm just a poor pastor with a zecco acct and a babysitting business
can you tell an example of how are ratio spreads / straps / strips quoted ?
Most do, I use TOS
It's kind of depressing, but I've been reading that even if you understand L2, the MMs can fake things thru various means to fool most traders that use L2 regularly but don't let that stop you. Just keep it in mind that L2 is just another tool and source of info to consider along with everything else.
I have had level 2 quotes for some time now but i really want to totally understand them. Where do i begin???? TIA
Here are my questions.
By using Level 2, will I be able to make the most out of my trade? i.e. know when to buy/sell?
I am very new to this and I have sen my account double and than go below. How can/will I know when to sell? I am frustrated.
What is teh best and cheapest level 2?
Anyone use ihub level 2?
How's this for a big "duh" - I just figured-out today that my Ameritrade account has free level 2!
That was awesome - thanks! Did you notice the bids of $199K
on the Ford stock? Can you imagine if someone did not have a limit order in? LOL Unless it's just a max setting...
Could anyone tell me discount brokers who give you L2 quotes?
Thanks
Someone answered this for me yesterday. It's just to make it easier to see the different orders.
Hello, I'm new to the Lv2 thing. Is there some sort of code language happening between the MM's? Do they actually all have orders for 5,000 or does it mean something different? I see ARCA at 999,900. Also I see some numbers in green and others in red?
is there any free level 2 for pink sheets?
I'm sure this question has been asked before
Here's an L2 tutorial from stockanalyzer.
There are other tutorials on stockhideout that explain charting, etc...
http://www.stockhideout.com/images/flash/level.html
Hope this helps! worked for me!
Does anyone know what the different colors mean in L2?
e.g. green, blue, pink, yellow, etc
each bid/ask is shaded a different color, but I'm not sure what they mean
I use quote media (www.quotemedia.com). L2s are not too helpful delayed 15 mins, but i am just using it to learn.
About the trade types they all seem to be after hours trades, normally i only see 't' but have randomly seen the others go through after hours. There has to be a difference between them, but i cant figure it out.
never heard of that. I have L2 on etrade.
Does anyone have a link explaining the different types of level 2 trades? I have seen t, z, and u, are there others?
Thanks
I agree! I think it works only when market is open! Worth giving it a try! Seems to be passing packets to Quotemedia's app., btw OWVI is going to fly on Monday, FYI!
is it realtime?nm just a spam site
Free level 2 search.I just fing this website.
www.stockwatch411.com
Just type your ticker ,than you'll see the level 2.

Nope, I use L2 and it doesn't show those small trades from what MM. IMO
It irritates me that I have no idea which mm(s) was involved in a trade listed on my time and sale list...is there a service that does show such or is this just wishful thinking?
Like for example, time and sale shows a trade of 100 shares at 10:22am for price x, but does not tell you what MM(s) was involved in the transaction.
Thanks.
Yeah, it was very strange, I don't expect to be seeing it much. thanks for the reply.
It's my experience that i can only by at the Ask and sell at the Bid. I rarely get a chance to buy at the Bid and sell at the Ask. Hope that helps. IMO
Why am I getting filled below my bid and above my ask? Happened 3 times now in 4 days while flipping the same stock. Not that I'm complaining but I have never seen this before and I can't think of a reason for it.
Is there any way of seeing how many shares an mm is holding at an ask price??
Anyone know what's going on when L2 bids/asks below the current ones appear and then disappear and then reappear quickly (or not). It sort of looks like bids/asks are purposefully being hidden at times. I know that I can't cancel my bids/asks and then resubmit them that quickly. Also, many times my own b/a will sometimes appear and then disappear on L2 without my doing anything. Is some sort of priority being assigned? I use TDA L2s exclusively so wondering if all this is a phenomenon unique to TDA. Tia.

I think it means, Out of Sequence. So they are trades the MM is posting out of order
Does anyone know the significance of the term "seq" after a sell order that shows on L2- such as:
0.0012 500,000 seq 11:59:13
These orders are going through on MODC this morning no matter what the bid/ask is, they are all lower than the bid. I assume they are sells. Could they be warrents to purchase the stock at a lower price? TIA
Anyone use Otc Quote for level 2 on bb and pinks? If so, what was your experience? Tia Jim

This is a board for Level2 education. I will use the iBox for links to articles, web sites and user posts that are relevant to Level2 education. Please do not discuss stocks on this board except to ask for Level2 specific information about a particular stock or to use a stock as an example for your question. Posts not geared toward the greater good will be deleted. iBox suggestions and links to sites or posts that I can use in the iBox can be sent to me via PM.
There is no such thing as a stupid question. If you don't know, or are just looking for clarification, just ask.
The Q&A's cover the questions and answers from the board and other information so it will be the first place for newcomers to check for answers. But feel free to expand on anything you find there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Question and Answer section-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
****** Q&A's updated 9/11/07 - added ECN information ******
Q: What is Level 1?
A: A service which displays the real time highest Bid and lowest Ask quotes along with volume and the last days price.
Q: What is Level 2?
A: A service containing Level 1 information plus quotes from all the MM's who are actively trading a stock.
Q: What is Level 3?
A: A service containing Level 2 information plus the ability to enter quotes and send orders to the market. It is a restricted service available only to the MM's. It is the service they use to trade with.
Q: What is a Market Maker or MM?
A: A broker or dealer who holds an inventory of shares for the stocks it handles making a market for those stocks displaying their Bid and Ask prices.
Q: What are the Bib and Ask prices?
A: The Bid is where MM's are holding buy orders at, the Ask is where they are holding sell orders at.
Q: Why do some stocks have a larger spread between the Bid and Ask than others?
A: Larger cap stocks that are more liquid will have a smaller spread than a smaller cap stock that is less liquid. You will generally want to see a smaller spread.
Q: What does the term liquidity mean in the stock market?
A : Liquidity is determined by the volume and the ability to sell a stock quickly. High volume stocks which are easier to trade are considered more liquid.
Q: Why do different MM's show different Bid prices on the same stock?
A: Each MM displays the highest buy orders they are holding. When the MM at the top of the list has filled his orders he will drop of and the next MM in line will be displayed as the current best offer. If a new MM comes in with a higher buy order or a current MM receives a higher buy order, he will go to the top of the list.
Q: Why do different MM's show different Ask prices on the same stock?
A: Each MM displays the lowest sell orders they are holding. When the MM at the top of the list has filled his orders he will drop of and the next MM in line will be displayed as the current best offer. If a new MM comes in with a lower sell order or a current MM receives a lower sell order, he will go to the top of the list.
Q: The Bid and Ask prices are the same? What's going on?
A: Called a Locked Market, where opposing MM's Bid and Ask prices match. There is no advantage for the MM's, it's just a coincidence.
Q: What is a Raw Data / Time and Sales display?
A: A display showing tick by tick each trade that goes through the market. The date, time, price and volume of each trade is displayed along with what the Bid and Ask prices were at that time. This is the data that charts are built from.
Q: While watching Time and Sales, how do you know if a trade was a buy or a sell?
A: A trade at the bid is considered a sell. A trade at the ask is considered a buy. A trade in the middle can go to whichever is closer.
Note: If you are wondering how a trade can go through at a figure outside the current Bid or Ask without the MM list changing is that it happens so quickly there is not enough time for the quote system to react to it but it will show up on a time and sales display.
Q: What is the MM wall or the resistance point on a Level 2 quote?
A: The wall is where one or more MM's are sitting at the same Ask price with large Ask sizes. It usually takes a lot of buying pressure to break through that point. When you see a wall creeping up the Level 2 display during a run it may be a good time to sell.
Q: Why does it mean when someone says the MM's are walking the price down?
A: An MM, investment group or large investor will throw small sells at the bid to drive the price down before accumulating a large amount of shares. They may also drive it down before they cover a short position. Watch for small trades like $5 to $20 at the Bid. There is nothing wrong with the stock, just someone taking the price down to buy cheaper shares.
Q: What MM's do you like to see on the Bid?
A: ABLE, ARCA, BEST, DATA, DOMS, EDGX, EFGI, FRAN, GNET, GNGL, HILL, JEFF, JIMK, MAXM, MURF, NIII, PERT, POND, QUIN, SALI, SCHB, SEAB, STGI, TDCM, TRAC, VERT, VNDM, WDCO
Q: What MM's do you hate to see on the Ask?
A: ACAP, AGIS, ARCA, BAMM, BMIC, BOFA, BRUT, BTRD, CGFL, CHIG, CLYP, ETRD, FANC, GNET, GVRC, HDSN, INCA, ISLD, REDI, JIMK, MAYF, NITE, RBCM, SACM, SBSH, SCHB, SSGI, UBSS, UCAP, VFIN
Q: What are ECN's?
A: ECN, Electronic Communications Network. An automated electronic trading system that allows users to execute trades without going through a Market Maker. Primarily used for Limit orders. It is expensive to use so it is generally used by the big boys or individual investors who do a lot of trading.
Q: Who are the ECN's?
A: ECN list, ARCA, AUTO, BRUT, BTRD, DATA, EDGX, GLBA, GNET, INCA, ISLD, REDI, TRAC. Limit orders are usualy routed to an ECN by your broker. ARCA is the ECN used by Ameritrade. If anyone knows any others please let me know.
