Cashback88, thanks for responding. Eventually, when that "Q" comes off, this should be very interesting indeed. I think your March '11 timeline, sounds about right, for "debt free".
I personally spent 20+ years in the airline industry, and my wife worked for JAL. They made mistakes, but yes, the airline industry is rife with mistake making, poor choices in its history.
JAL has a lot of pride. With the new man in charge, they will come back. It will take time. They will be a leaner company because of all this. ANA has taken a good chunk of the market, and now ANA is also starting a low cost carrier variation. We shall see if this works. If done right, there is a need for a intra-island carrier. Once again, GLTY....

That's exactly how I see the situation. 10% increase of their own capital, makes them more resistent for unforeseen events and helps them to pay back their debts to the banks at same time. some rumors were saying, that JAL is flying into winning zone this year and by march 2011 they should be debtfree again. well who knows, but as it sems, they are doing a good job so far. I don't know, why of a sudden the volume has "exploded", but it definitely shows, JAL is getting interesting again.
Hello, Cashback88, maybe we can get some conversation here on the Hub, as the Y is dead. I'm a player of JALSQ, FQ, and the vol is decent. The recent move is nice, still holding above 200 ma of $1.07 US. In addition, the recent employment news of retirements, attrition, and layoffs is encouraging to the stock. As management is determined to get these key # under control. With the cutting of unprofitable routes, and a possible capital infusion of 50bil yen more, things are looking optimistic here. GLTY.....

Another fine day. Hopefully it will perform that way for while
80 cents now, rapidly increasing volume
another 9,35% up with increasing volume
Within a month the pps went up 33%. Yesterday the stock did hit 0.70 (+28,7%) with almost no volume. Is there something coming big?
Great news for long term JALSQ stock holders. Profits not far away. Merger talks in the works. Read the article http://www.tehrantimes.com/index_View.asp?code=224374.
Any news on JALSQ? Still waiting for some movement.
just checking in. what happened to those in jalsf? lost their $?

JAL shares end final day at one yen February 19, 2010 - 9:29PM
AFP
Shares in bankrupt Japan Airlines finished their last trading day at just one yen on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Friday, marking another ignominious milestone in the carrier's decline.
Asia's biggest airline, which went bankrupt a month ago with $US6 billion ($A6.65 billion) of debt in one of the country's biggest ever corporate failures, is being delisted from the exchange under a government-backed turnaround plan.
Shareholders are to lose their investment but the airline aims to continue operating after receiving a financial lifeline of $US10 billion ($A11.09 billion) in public funds.
The stock exchange said 27.6 million JAL shares changed hands Friday, but the stock finished unchanged from the previous day's close.
Investors will no longer be able to trade JAL stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange although the stock may still be traded on the grey market, a spokesman for the bourse said.
"If you ask securities companies, they might buy at one yen or so. But we don't know if they would really buy the shares," he said.
JAL's stock has plunged 99 per cent over the past three months. Its highest share price since it began merging operations with small domestic carrier Japan Air Systems was Y366, seen in 2003.
JAL, a once-proud flag carrier that carries more than 50 million passengers every year, plans to slash more than 15,600 job cuts under a three-year turnaround plan.
The airline was established in 1951 and two years later the government took a 50-per cent stake. It made its international debut in 1954, connecting Tokyo, Honolulu and San Francisco.
JAL's woes are seen as the result of years of bad management, high costs stretching back to its days as a state-owned flag carrier as well as government pressure to service unprofitable routes to small domestic airports.
It was also hit particularly hard by the global economic downturn because of its extensive overseas flight network.
The government has tapped Kazuo Inamori, a 78-year-old management guru and Buddhist monk, to run the stricken airline during its overhaul.
Earlier this month JAL said it would expand its alliance with American Airlines and its Oneworld partners, spurning an offer to team up with rival Delta Air Lines and its SkyTeam alliance.
So much for PR's, nothing moving here.. will have to wait few months before something good comes out..
That is for the Tokyo Exchange, not this one.
rich ,because we were pussies. there you go. make some money. matt
don't know if I'd be long term. this stock is getting delisted February 20th.

long term baby long term...3-6 months
Thanks for the input. Holding stock longer seems to be the way to go. The country of Japan will keep JAL afloat until it rebounds, "not losing face" is a key factor with this business. I hope it goes sky high quickly!
This will play with us at least for next few weeks, some growth can be seen may be after a month or two.
On a nice healthy pullback looking good
Because that run up was manufactured on no news, most likely to be shorted by some big players.
It is now going to return to realistic levels after they have made their $$$.
Got in at .82, any ideas on why it's tanking? Was unable to sell earlier and now I can't decide if I should just get out before I lose or just wait for the inevitable rebound.
O/T. FRAE.PK up today on no news. However O/S is 21M and Morgan Stanley holds 1.6M shares. FRAE currently has a lawsuit against Merryl Lynch and SunTrust/Robinson for $100M.This is about $5/share. Stock is up today. Maybe somebody knows something.
Yea, it went up fast, and down even faster. I had a sell order at 2.12 and sold at 2.06; that tells you how fast it was.
I'd still keep an eye on it though.
this stock tanking fast!!!!!!
nice in on $jalsy
New to this one. Why run up? Any link?
In @ 1.36! woo hoo.
Nice open, ran to 1.55.
I may get in this shortly, looks like it could go red... for a few minutes of course.
Nice day!!
I'm on the same boat, although, it looks like it could still run up.
Congrats!
I had no guts... Just watching for amusement now.
Nice play guys. Got in at .98 cents yesterday, just sold 2/3 my position and letting the rest ride. Insane breakout today.
Thank you, knulp, for the explanation. Good clarification and helpful.
to blarsch from knulp
I look every night at tokio stock exchange: japan airlines is trading between 2 and 3 yen or 0.022$ and .0333 so I don't know...jalsy is an adr or certificate represntative 5 shares so it should trading at .16 but now is 1.06. Speculation's betting on bid by Delta or other peer, I think some positive news will come in the next days, JAL is a big company with many assets, in a bankruptcy filing never say never...speculation is betting only on JALSY maybe dosen't know JALSF as trading symbol(absurdity)???
but remeber the trading floor difference: adr is trading on primary floor, JALSF on grey market segment of pink sheets, so not market makers imho the reason!
I have no idea or comments about that.
do you think they (scottrade) do that purposefully so "WE" have to get expensive shares? do you think its a conspiracy? i kinda do!
Rich, I understand your frustration and have had some similar experiences. The main thing is that you are in, and I think you will make a profit. I arrived late here also, for different reasons. Best of luck to you and all on this board.
i ain't getting rich at all been watching this since .20 and finally tried to buy today at .82 but effing scottrade made me call it in and the doofus on the line kept taking forever repeating my order back to me. "ok so 5000 shares at .82" shoot! now change it to .84! "ok so to confirm..." finally got some at .98 but i don't know wtf is going on here and i'm on pins and needles. Why couldn't i have bought $10k worth at .20?!!!!
Hi, Rich, I'm here and very happy. I hope you are getting rich, I wish I had bought more. What do you think of JALSF?

Mizuho Said to Be Largest Lender for Japan Air Turnaround Fund
By Chris Cooper, Kiyotaka Matsuda and Takako Taniguchi
Jan. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Mizuho Financial Group Inc. will be the biggest lender to the Japanese state-affiliated fund helping to restructure Japan Airlines Corp., said three people with knowledge of the matter.
Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp. of Japan last week agreed to borrow money from a total of five banks in its first request for funds, said two of the people, who declined to be identified as the discussions are private. They didn’t say how much Mizuho will lend. Most of the money will be used for restructuring Japan Air, said one of the people.
Enterprise Turnaround will borrow a total of 355 billion yen ($3.9 billion) for six months starting on Jan. 28 as it prepares bridge loans for Japan Air. The Tokyo-based carrier filed for bankruptcy last week as part of a 900 billion yen turnaround plan backed by the fund and state-owned Development Bank of Japan.
Masako Shiono, a spokeswoman for Mizuho, Japan’s third- biggest bank by market value, declined to comment. An official at Enterprise Turnaround, who declined to be named, declined to comment.
Enterprise Turnaround earlier this month asked 39 local and overseas banks to bid in an auction to provide government- guaranteed loans. The fund is arranging 600 billion yen in bridge loans for Japan Air with Development Bank. It is also providing 300 billion yen in capital to the carrier.
